Need another Lipo
« on: September 07, 2018, 15:05:08 PM »
Currently have just there one Turnigy 3s 2200 mAh 20-30C discharge and am looking for a second. This particular battery has been discontinued.

Anyone tried GARTPOT batteries? Price is good. Can't afford a fortune as it won't get a huge amount of use.

I'd second the above comment. I have heard all sorts of comments from trade and other modellers but my Zippy packs perform better than some Overlander packs bought recntly at the Nats.
They allow more current to flow into a given Motor / ESC / Prop setup and the Overlander packs are hotter at the end of a flight - all in my WOT4 Foam-E

Don't knock Zippy's! - I can also get a 2450 Zippy compact into the W4 foam-E where as most other makes above 2200 wont fit (GensACE did a 2600/2650 that just fitted but they have now ballooned enough not to fit)
Basic Research is what I do - when I don't know what I'm doing!.

Thanks guys. Yes I am an HK member and their prices are pretty good. Their postage tends to be a bit expensive though, minimum £5regardless!

I presume you have abused those? I just use a cheap charger but always charge with balance lead on. Had some for some years now and they are very slightly swollen compared to new ones but nothing like that.

Sorry Paul , but you must be doing something wrong if all the packs have ballooned like that.

Iíve got Zippys that are 5 years old and have been used in ducted fan models that are still perfect.
You only need two tools in life - wd-40 and duct tape . If it doesn't move and should, use the wd-40. If it shouldn't move and does use the duct tape

I've been using lipos for years now and the ONLY ones which have stood the test of time have been my Gens Ace ones. Some of them are pushing 7 years old and haven't even swollen yet - in fact the only issue I've had with one of them was one of the black balance lead wires came off so I had to solder it back on.

I've tried Turnigy, Zippy, Rhino, MultiStar, you name it.

Just make sure you get a high C rating one and you won't have any issues - they generally overstate the actual rating.

Sorry but I have a Wheel barrow full of lipo's, you can get good and bad series of them,
I will name some if you want to know, but I have some that are OVER 10 years old and are still serviceable
I also have and others of the same make where the 1300mah are doing well and the 2200 mah  after 3 charges are useless,
all bought at the same time and for the same use,,  :study:

I have just found two more Zippy lipos blown, 7,4  V 2s in my Revolver, i use them for receiver power, left the in storage mode four months ago and they were ok, went to charge them up yesterday and had a job to get the out of the built in box they fit in, always balanced charged on a top of the range Turnigy charger
I just have 6 Zippies left now, will not be buying anymore HK lipos

That's odd. Just charged the six I have- three new and three old ones and all perfect. I thought the old ones seemed slightly puffy but comparing them to the new ones they are fine. All charge up to 96%. I suppose I may be lucky...

Hi CC, I don't know if you are still looking for a 3S 2200mAh LiPo but HK UK have the 30C version of your existing pack currently in stock at £10.83. I have always got on well with the standard Turnigy range.

The bog-standard Turnigy 30C packs are my "general purpose sports model" packs for most things.

Did you let them get hot ie sitting in a hot shed or workshop? while fully charged??

I had a couple of brand new packs swell after I charged them and left them in my workshop during the heatwave in August.
It was close to 100deg F in the shed and even though the packs were stored (after charging) close to the floor they still felt quite warm to the touch.
They do seem to be working ok though!

All my battery's are in my garage which gets to 32įC,  most are OK others not, but they 'blew up' in spring, so it's certainly not the garage temperature. :-\

Ended up buying a Zippy to replace my 3S and as my next build is basically a park flyer picked up a couple of 2S's for £15 at the same Time.
