Sqealing Heron (motor)
« on: December 17, 2018, 07:24:27 AM »
I replaced the rather bendy prop supplied with the MPX Heron with a 12 x 6 Aeronaught prop, It pull 32A static but when running up on the ground there is a squealing noise.

I'm guessing timing but I dont know how to adjust this on the MPX Esc supplied with the RR version (40A)

As always any ideas or info welcome

It could be the prop tips getting too close to the sound barrier.  ???

Bryan,
Did the motor squeel before the prop change? I'm guessing not, try the motor without the prop on it, try another brand/size of prop. I dont think the tips are going supersonic.... :''

Unlikely, and even if it were it would sound more like a circular saw. I'm sure you've heard it - the sound a modern airliner with high-bypass turbofans makes at max chat on take-off. That "circular saw" noise is the outer 10%(ish*) of the fan blades going supersonic in the warm ground-level air. Once in the climb at low altitude they throttle back to remove the supersonic flow (for noise abatement) and progressively increase rpm as they climb and the cooler air reduces the mach number for a blade speed.

PDR

* 10% would be typical but it can approach 30% depending on the configuration of the specific engine - consult your dealer handbook for specific advice. Your airline could be at risk if you operate supersonic fans in noise-sensitive environments without a license.

It'll most likely be timing from the increased loading.

A few mins on internet indicated that its a Hitec Energy unit, and a minute more got to :-

https://hitecrcd.com/images/products/pdf/382_Energy_Manual.pdf

Where you will find timing info.

Thanks for that, seems the default setting is Auto so it should accommodate some difference in prop sizes esp as the current draw is only a bit higher than the standard prop.

I'll try experimenting

Cheers
