HELP. Losing mojo, recommend me a glider
« on: July 16, 2018, 18:56:14 PM »
Hi all, I'm losing the buzz of flying and have decided a change in direction with a glider might help. What can you recommend for me that could be flown off a slope but primarily from flat field with a motor. I've had a few 2m foamies in the past but have only managed to get high then gradually come down. I've built and flown 1/4 and 1/5 scale ww1 and ww2 warbirds and a couple of jets and want a scale non foamies glider, with flaps and maybe air brakes. Needs to have a motor and something a can find thermals with. Not too small, 3m ish and not too expensive....300 max.  And outlets in the UK. I'm more interested in soaring rather than a carbon rocket ship flying back and forth across a ridge.

Try this site https://scalesoaring.co.uk/ really helpful guys. If you didn't get tired of the same old same old life wouldn't be worth living.
Google for chris charlesworth and scale sailplane plans might help.

OK not scale but a quick way to a nice looking and performing electric soarer - Multiplex Heron RR

I bought one last September and have had hours of flying for very little effort, Got mine from King Lynn models for 300 delivered. You do not even have to stick on decals, just plug in wings, fit tailplane (2 nylon Screws) fit receiver, 2200mAh battery,  - Fly!

Basic Research is what I do - when I don't know what I'm doing!.

There is a thread on here I put on regarding electrifying a slope soarer- specifically one of Stan Yeos excellent kits. It flies really well slope or flat.

Thanks, I'll have a look.
Been looking at the flyfly gliders, condor or dg505. Look nice quality and fly nicely on youtube

Negative dihedral due to the wing tubes badly fitted/designed, wings too flexible, the tail plane out of line and square,
maybe I got a bad one,,,  :banghead:

Ok, thanks, but there are a lot of good reviews as well. Chinese quality control always a bit iffy so if I go for one I'll have it out the box and check. Thanks for the heads up.

No you got a good one...Some are worse than that.

Hi all, I'm losing the buzz of flying and have decided a change in direction

For a complete change why not give single-channel a try?
Before you dismiss it just have a browse on our forum, mode-zero.uk
You'll find a very friendly bunch of lads who thoroughly enjoy retro R/C in its many forms - S/C on the button, Galloping Ghost, Reeds, Pulse...
Its a very different experience that you just might enjoy, especially if you flew R/C in the 60s/70s. Simple models flown on simple equipment just as it was back in the day.

(Mode-zero is a skit on the mode-1 vs mode-2 argument - we have no sticks at all ! )

Cheers
Phil

Phil, I had a push button in the 70s controlling a boat when I was a kid.  I will certainly take a look.

Tony, how are you, recovered from last time I heard from you.  I have a 1200 bandit bike, Lotus 7 type kit car and models.  I couldn't have all these toys in Cyprus.  Working longer hours and a pi$$ poor winter plus new toys mean I want to scale down the flying to something that doesn;t take half a doay to fit in 30 minutes flying.

Remember me to the club there in Cyprus, if you are near N Yorks, give me a shout.  Im on my long holiday now  :D :D :D :D

Here is the thread I mentioned. Sorry never got round to taking flying pics yet, but it does what it says on the tin. All I would do to change it is add a bit more downthrust.
