Any news on the Horus?
« on: September 19, 2014, 19:00:26 PM »
Has anyone heard when the Horus is due for release?
I've heard rumours of the end of October, can anyone confirm this?

Thanks Rob.
I have money burning a hole in my pocket so if it's here for next season, that's good.

That 12x looks pretty cool - I make it 8 switches an 7 pots. But what is a "9 axis sensor" and why would you want a GPS in the Tx?

Any feeling for the likely price?

Could the GPS in the Tx work via telemetry to the onboard GPS as a kind of homing sensor? Just an idea. I imagine the price will make several rivals look very overpriced. The 9E has shades of the Jeti/Graupner MC Tx's.

Yes, but why in the Tx?

Also will this only be a 12 channel Tx or will it be a 32 channel one like the Taranis?

It could be used for something like a camera gimbal.
I would guess it will be 32 channels as it has a module bay.

Yes, but why in the Tx?

If this refers to GPS in the Tx, one use might be to transfer that location info to a FPV, multicopter, etc, so that its return to base can be updated with a change of location.

I suspect its great to have RTB, but if you are forced to change location while its in flight, what then?  This facility might help solve that?

I'm not sure that either of those would be particularly legal in the UK - follow-me modes certainly aren't (unless detailed in a specific commercial operating license) and whilst an RTB point for the failsafe could possibly be legally updated in flight (not sure about that) there doesn't seem to be a real need given the prohibition of beyond-visual-range flying and the other restrictions around legal flight.

Of course other countries have different rules, and this product isn't specifically aimed at the UK.

I believe Fr'Sky have a team developing firmware that will make it a bit more user friendly out of the box. But will still be able to run open source firmware.

My current radio is 10 years old and I'm mainly flying multis now so the more channels the better.

If you want to handle one, book a flight to Chicago for this weekend. Both the new  TXs will be on display at a show/expo.

I will admit that I was considering getting a Taranis, but I hate those old JR transmitter shapes (they just don't sit well in my hands). I guess I'll hold off for a year or so to potentially become a second-adopter of the Horus...

Those buttons between the elevator & throttle trim buttons - are they trims for the two slider controls or just assignable switches?

PDR
My guess is they will be momentary switches. Whatever they are they will be assignable to a function.

Looking closer I see they are labeled T and numbers, which I can't quite make out, so it looks like they are trims for something. They will still be assignable to other functions, as the Taranis allows trims to be assigned for other functions.

Estimated to be available in six months at around $500.
I guess that will be about 400 here in the UK and Fr'Sky's date estimates do tend to be a little optimistic.

If half the gossip about this radio turns out to be true then toy will be getting a lot of radio for the money, at a guess it should be about half the price of anything with a  similar spec at least, Happy days!

Around 1/3 the price of the similar, but possibly lesser specced Jeti.

Looks very promising. I hope they consider making this transmitter with some sort of weather proofing. My phone is not waterproof but is splash proof with the pcb coated in some polymer.
I'm not keen on the carbon effect...

Lots of updated info starting to come out - the X9E is due in the US within a month (I have an email in to Richard from T9 re: the UK lead time), and the Horus June/July (though Wayne at Aloft Hobbies sounds a lot less certain on that timeline given they still have some hardware finalisations to do plus finishing off the new, non-OpenTX firmware). Yes I heard the release would be around June.
Pennies at the ready, I've been wanting to upgrade my 12 year old Hitec Eclipse for a while now and I have been waiting for this.

Yes I heard the release would be around June.
Pennies at the ready, I've been wanting to upgrade my 12 year old Hitec Eclipse for a while now and I have been waiting for this.
If you are waiting for the X9E, I guess your wait is nearly over. Horus, well... I suspect you'll be ensuring that Eclipse remains well cared for for at least the rest of this season!

I expect it to be next year before I buy one, I don't believe it's wise to be an early adopter of new hardware. I prefer to let others get the bugs sorted out first.

Dealers have just received the first ones for evaluation and promotion purposes. See T9's Facebook page for images. https://www.facebook.com/T9hobbysport-120217737998160/?v=wall

That looks a bit gorgeous!  Quite compact too, so hopefully easily held by 'nipple-tweakers' such as me.

Just hope it ain't silly money...

Don't get too excited, as of yesterday report from a trade source that production is a way off yet, and the full evaluation process for Beta has yet to occur.
