I've heard there are a too many problems with the FrSky firmware being reported by beta testers (Testing using computer sim).

Can't I just buy the case and put the guts from my 388 in it?

Maybe it's so that you can find it if your wife has hidden it away.  :''

Its so you can find it when the UPS guy has claimed to deliver it or hidden it in the dustbin on the day the bins are emptied

Won't comment further, but Horus Tx in pre-production form with FRSky derived OS have begun to be issued out to (at least) the small team of UK based Beta Testers during the last week or so, so limited exposure of said item at club fields is likely imminent.

Get your binoculars and bird spotting books out, open at the Falcon page.

Because they are doing the development properly. They have had pre-production prototypes put with beta testers for the last 4 months to try and iron out any issues. it will probably be too late this season to get one but when it does come out it will be one of the best transmitters on the market.

And as it's not replacing an existing model it won't steal sales from that, might even get few more Tarnish sales as people get one as an interim measure while they wait. Or it could be that knocking up a high spec radio isn't a fast track project, especially if you are developing an easy to use high end operating system from scratch.

As many of you may remember a few years ago I converted a couple of Sanwa RD600 plus TX to operate using the FrSky hack module.

Shortly after that I converted a Spektrum DX7 to FrSky using the telemetry hack unit. In fact I still regularly use this as it works with my older FrSky RX.

ila_rendered

I then bit the bullet and bought a Taranis from the second batch and use that as my main transmitter.

ila_rendered

And today I took the next step on my FrSky journey. A spanking new BETA Horus arrived with the postie today.

As there are many picture`s and YouTube video`s out there already I will not be breaking my NDA by showing you this.

I can not and will not comment on any of the feature`s price`s or anything else that is not already in the public domain. I am taking this beta testing seriously. I have already found one "issue" that may or may not yet have been resolved. I will not know until after I have done a firmware update. But first a good battery charge.

Good luck with your testing Kev,
I really do like the look of the Horus, and
I particularly like the on/off switch cover.  :-X

I look forward to seeing the Horus in the flesh
and you as well of course.

Not going to be breaking my NDA as the units are due to hit the market this week.

Need to work on the camera angle on the hat though.

That is the beauty of BETA testing, any one from top gun pilots to club flyers participate.

I found errors in the software that would not affect a high end user. Every reported bug is a bonus for the end user, in that they should be able to fly safe in the knowledge that people like me risked there 1200 jet or there 30 foam delta.

I wouldn't, if you get hit for tax/duty it will cost more than buying in Europe and any problems will be difficult to resolve.

very pleased with the Hours so far. The DJT module sits out of the way and I'm pleased to say binds with all my V8 receivers some of which are ver 1.
still getting to grips with frisky os at the moment which so far is adequate for my needs.

Version 1.2.15
You want to load 1.2.20, although it is listed as a beta version, and after you load it you need to rebind your receivers. There was/is a problem with random, very short duration Failsafes, mainly effecting quads, when flying close. 1.2.20 is an attempt to fix the problem.

The instruction to rebind was added some time after release, somewhat worrying!

The main change link wise is that when the RF is set to outside aerial, it also runs the internal.  Thing is, I have run race quads low and fast through obstacles inc round trees at distance (within spotter vision limits) and close indoors with nothing untoward showing up using only internal, yet have experienced poor range and RSSI warnings with planes in far less extreme conditions.

The rebind instruction was just an oversight.
The problem with failsafe was not a range problem. It was random and very short duration, so could be missed on fixed wing models, but drones flying close to the ground would drop without warning. Not everyone experianced it, but you could have many flights without a problem and then it could hit. Initially it was being reported as loss of range with no RSSI warning, but a few guys on RC Groups did a lot of work investigating it and discovered the problem was a run of over 100 lost/bad frames. 100 unusable frames triggers failsafe, so the failsafe would last as long as the the unusable frames less 100, so the failsafe would only be very short duration and could go un-noticed. The new firmware seems to have solved the problem, although I suspect it may not be the final solution.

Indeed, the advise was given days after I had updated and flown (with no issues) on a couple of occasions.
