rcgf engine problem
« on: October 14, 2017, 08:46:18 AM »
After purchasing ( about a year ago) this engine, performed well for about a year, installed in a Tiger Moth.
Intermittent stoppages causing 'dead stick' landings were thought to be carburettor related and a walbro repair kit (WT Series) used. This did not cure the problems.
A new carburettor was purchased from Hobby King. Initially this worked well.
Problems reappeared but the engine became very unreliable and a new RExcel ignition system installed. No real improvement.
This time, on again stripping the engine, the reed valve membrane had disintegrated and presumably gone through the engine.
The engine is now on a test bed with a new reed valve just arrived from HobbyKing.

Anyone else had similar problems?

I have had a similar issue though on another make of engine.

In my case, it was as a direct result of overheating which  mushed up the reed valve mating surfaces.

Changed the reed valve assembly, improved the airflow and never had a problem after that.

Just my expereience if its worth anything.

My Rcgf 15cc has been running for 2 years probably  one or twice a week, I did have the same problem around 6 moths ago and changed the electronic system for a rexel unit, and that cured it, however I did regulate the carburettor 'pop up' pressure from new.
