Ok guys,

We need to know how many of you are up for a battle.......... :)  :) say..... next week sometime.

So first thing is to register here on this thread indicating what IL-2 game you play. Either Forgotten Battles or Pacific Fighters and what version of the game you are running. Forgotten Battles needs V1.22, Pacific Fighters needs V4.01 to play online.

We will then setup the server for the most popular. We will use the Ubi.com lobby so you will need that also, can be down loaded from Ubisoft site for free if you don't already have it.

The password for entry into the battle will be posted on this thread.

Tune up those Joysticks and get posting.......... :af  :af  :af

I'm running Forgotten Battles + Ace Expansion + Pacific Fighters, a merged install.  Currently running 4.01m (m is because its merged).  I have a broadband connection from home.

Let me know when, and I'll do my best to join in.  Sounds a laugh not like them computer geek sorts that normally do it  :af

as Andy said were going to have to wait and see who's got what version, we both got the lot but are trying to keep it simple, so either we play just

fogotten battles ver 1.22 no ace expansion pack

pacific fighters ver 303-304 401 loaded in that order

or finally we all get forgotten battles, ace exspansion pack , pacific fighters installed merged and patched up to 401m,

Personally i'd prefer the latter but thats means some individuals will have to buy the lot, a little unfair i think unless everyones happy too, so we either go for the first or second one, bearing in mind the pacific fighters is the lastest so its all singing and dancing with all the latest planes, though Andy does'nt get on well with  beaufighters and torpedos  :ev :ev :ev

Only asking because that's what I have loaded :af

I've just got Forgotten battles..

Do we need ubi.com, or could someone just post and IP and port and have them host?

leigh   luis
dont forget you have to upgrade them to version 4.01
if the ones you get are from amazon  (as mine was ) its likely they will be version 3.00
you will have to go here
http://www.pacific-fighters.com/en/updates.php and download version 3.03   then 3.04 and finally 4.01  to get your version up to speed .
Be warned its going to take a long time if you are not on b/band ! 2 of the downloads are close on 100mb each !
still its only time  what else are you gonna do ?  go up the field while they are downloading  ;D

Squeeguk,

If you do decide to eventually buy a Joystick, make sure its digital analogue (last longer, less need to keep calibrating), and one where the main stick twists is great for rudder control.  I use a Logitech Wingman Extreme.  They can be had pretty cheap from Currys etc.  I dont find force feedback necessary.

Just ordered pacific fighters from Amazon  :af

Broadband is being installed on Saturday.

My Logitech wingman stick is still up for grabs - I just want it to go to a good home really - no point in it taking up room in my building room.

Chocks away, see you at angels ten.

OK then

me  and andy being chatting and have thought that pacific fighters is the way to go, it seems the one most people are getting.

what you'll need to do is install it as a stand alone version from the installation disc, very easy to do, once you got that far then go online to www.pacific-fighters.com/en/pacific.php and down load versions :-  3.03 stand alone and 4.01 stand alone,

save them to a folder then unzip them doing 3.03 first followed by 4.01, when you unzip them they do all their installing to the game folder on their own, as andy says these are big folders 100mb so if your not on broadband don't bother trying, if your stuck send me an email and i'll burn the patches to disc and send to you cause i'm nice like that  :ev :ev

In reply to Will's question we thought it would be just as easy for every one to log on to ubi.com and enter the game that way, though the password will be on this forum that way only forum members can play in a private room, when we are ready to get up and running remember once you log in to ubi.com you'll have to go to forgotten battles section then into pacific fighters stand alone, if this sounds all rather confusing don't worry its dead easy.

Ok for those of you running forgotten battles  with ace expansion pack and pacific fighters merged up to 4.01m, not a problem just reinstall pacific fighters as stand alone, it will install it to a different directory no problem then just patch it up to 4.01. that way you have both vesions, it does work honest.

for those just running forgotten battles, never mind  :'( :'( :'(

We know all this works because we tried it yesterday and today, bl**dy wonderful fun  :af :af :af

Only thing were not sure about is those running on a standard modem  :-\ :-\, you'll have to let us know

As i said before this all may sound a tab bit confusing but its dead easy and damm good fun and as for pacific fighters 30 quid at PC world 10 quid throught amazon.

WHO'S GOING TO BE THE FIRST ACE  :ev :ev :ev

never used it online though so it's a bit of a mystery to me, i've got broadband and a good connection too but what do you need to get started online , do you have to subscribe to a games server?wjhow much does it cost etc etc

Ok guys,

We've done a bit of testing, all seems to be in order, we have set up a private room, password protected and played on-line.

It's important you read Lozza's post above to ensure you can get to ubi.com where the RCMF game will be. As a check, to make sure everything on your own computer is OK, try to attach to any game listed at ubi.com not protected by a passsword if you do not see a RCMF game on the list. If you get into that game OK you should be fine with ours.
If not then check your firewall settings to make sure it allows data in and out. (far too complicated for my old brain)
We've been testing with IMAGEDKTR most of the w/e with very varied results. Hopefully he will report here some of his findings for anyone else who has problems.

Not long now, see you at 'Angels 15'

Roger that.............I'd roger anything.......oooops..... :ev  :ev

;D LOL You beat me to it Andy
Ok as has ben said   for a lot of the weekend I have been trying to get online and play the game with Andy and Lozza with varying results.
It started with my being unable to connect to the ubi.com server with the error message  "timed out"
This went on for quite a while (coincidentally I ALSO COULD NOT GET INTO ANY OF THE OTHER GAMES) oops caps
So an investigation was in order , first off I disabled my firewall (Zonealarm )  and this actually made no difference . so checked my own pc out  , I made sure xps firewall was also off (which it was) , now I was clutching at straws so I uninstalled and reinstalled PF  and tried again . Nope nothing.
Then last night I looked at the setup page of PF  and there was an option to change connection method from its default of 56k dial up to adsl    AH HA !  that must be the problem . so at about 9pm last night tried again
Success ! connected in seconds . great I'm all set to go .
As a check  tried it at about midnight and same  straight in   . pm'd Andy  and we will try again today , so I did and same result as b4  "timed out"
I have posted this q on a few diff game sites and ubisofts site as well and most seem to point the blame squarley at AOL and its reliance on using dynamic ip addresses not static ones (the diff being aol gives you a diff ip addy every time you sign on whereas a static one gives the same everytime and ubi.com relies on ip addys.
That said I did in fact get online with them both this afternoon but only once
(and I meant to eject from the plane on the runway     honest !   ;D ;D )

So if we have any pc brains in here feel free to put your 2 penneth in as it really is starting to get on my nerves  all I want to do is kill something (apart from the pc)

coincidentally the pc is well up to the task with a gig of ram a 3 gig cpu and a good 3d card

Shane

As an afterthought If I go into the site on my own i can set up a room for play with no problems   but then others get the "timed out " message "

You cant get in?

I can't even find the room  :-[

I can't work out where to go to find any rooms  ???

Am I supposed to be going here ? : http://www.pacific-fighters.com/en/pacific.php?skin=S1

In which case when I try the play online button it tells me I have the wrong URL  :-\

or perhaps here? : http://www.ubi.com/UK/Games/OnlineGames.aspx

Where PF isn't even listed  :(

Or is there somewhere else ?

If I try to find a server from the game itself it draws a blank

Anyone any ideas?

I am currently in London but will get the correct info when I get home, If no-one else has it first.

But as I remember it you can get to it from the game via Multiplayer, or easier is to click on the ubisoft game icon that was installed at the same time as PF. Just cant remember the steps from then on as they are slightly different.

I will clarify later

imagedktr

I am running Zonealarm and do not have a static ip, and it works fine for me, my broadband supplier is BT :P

ok i'll set another room up, you'll need to go to forgotten battles, then pf dogfight standalone, then rcmf and pass word will be test

ewan either go to the rooms from pacific fighters game or go into it from the ubi.com icon that should be on your desk top when you set up the game, you have to be registered, its all free

I think this is correct, give it a go :af

1.    Double click the "Play Online at ubi.com!" icon, which opens a ubicom page

2.    Click on "IL2 Forgotten Battles" in the left hand pane, which will open a new page

3.    Click on "PF Dogfight Standalone" in the retail lobby section, this will open another page

4.    Look for a room called "RCMF" in the top left screen

5.    If it is there it means the "boys" have a game running, double click on it and in you go, insert the correct password in the popup box (see the boys (lozza, dh71tiger) for the current p/word) and the game itself will launch

If you click on multiplayer in the game itself, select pay at ubisoft and that will launch at step 3

Hope this helps
