I was going to join in too, but my 6 month old daughter had other plans  :'(

Any thoughts on a co-op mission?  I know we'd need people to commit, but there would be a great sense of purpose as opposed to everyone shooting down everything that moved!  I cant get on-line until 7pm though.  Look forward to seeing you all in the vitrual skies soon.

Guys,

Last night didn't seem to go too well, odd people at various times throughtout the evening. This does not make for good dogfighting.....

So as the title of this thread suggests, why don't we have a specific night of the week and time for our aerial muscle flexing....... I would suggest Wednesdays at 19.00 hours. So arrange taking the dog out for his walk and putting the kids in bed around that.

I am currently working on a mission that, hopefully, will involve a bit of co-operative type thinking, as well as dogfighting. It is based on the attack of Pearl Harbour, the Japanese forces have already captured an airfield on the east side of the island. All the American fleet is in the harbour, asleep for the moment...................but I've said too much already...... :co  :co  :co
This mission will only work with enough players on-line at the same time........so it's down to you........no problems  :D

We also must remember it is good flying weather in the evenings at the mo and the middle of the 'holiday' season, I know of a few guys who have the game but have not appeared on-line yet. I expect things to improve, when the nights start drawing in.

I'll set a game up for tonight, same time and password as last night.

Very wisely spoken.. For this to work a specific time needs to be set.. Perhaps more than one day of the week.
Or perhaps co-op on a special day of the week ?

A specific missin goal should be great. Where people could take turns at flying a torpedo plane or a bomber. Not so great fun perhaps compared to a fighter though. But forcing players to have to use them in order to succeed. More strategy, fighter escorts, intercepts.. It will work with 2 player on each side.
Since we are not so many I mean..
1 fighter escort and 1 bomber on each side, mission target could be the airfield.
Then if you get shot down in the bomber you could switch to the fighter instead.

Would be great fun to actually protect your bomber or killing the other bomber.  Should be more fun than just roaming the skies with everybody shooting at each other in a dogfight.

Or something like this. I reeeeeeaaaaalllllyyyyy miss the European campaign. Messerschmidt's and FW.. trees on the ground and Russia's open fields and planes...
Basically the FB version...

Will try to get on tonight

19:00 would be perfect timing for me!

I have a full Forgotten Battles, and Ace Expansion (Komet, ME262, FW190 etc), how many people are tied to just Pacific Fighters?

Cheers

We will just have to find out again how many we exactly are. We must be more than 6..
We are not trying to arrange the Oscars here so it should be fairly easy if everyone with good notice informed our governments... err  wifes/girlfriends..... I mean..

Maybe of interest to you is the fact that the never version, PF with the 4.01 patch installed had a new even more realistic flight model, set at realistic it´s really very authentic (not that I have flown a warbird).
The downside is that the new flight model takes even more umpf from your computer as all the AI planes uses the same flight model as the player.

So FB is not so cruel on the computer..

How many has FB ?

A switch might be a good idea, surely there must be more people than I that misses the 109, 190, stuka, heinkel, P 47, 262, 163 and so on...

Well I for one have the original IL2,  IL2 forgotten Battles and of course the Pacific Fighters. I got the Forgotten Battles on Ebay a couple of weeks ago for £1.70 and £2 P&P brand new and sealed  :af,Pacific fighters was a little pricey at £14.98 at the local Game Store  :(

YB,

you will need to 'patch up' your Pacific Fighters to V4.01 to play online.

We can play V4.01m which includes all the prevous aircraft from the ETO as well as the PF planes.
How many of you guys can run V4.01m.???

See you all Wednesday 19:00 BST

Have been away this week but should be in the sky on Wednesday night for 7pm.  I'll check this thread to see whats going on before hand.

All ready up to 4.01 on PF but as I don't have aces I can't do the 4.01m ( merged install) just the stand alone. Flew in your room last weekend if I remember correctly and your A/C was just smoking on the ground , no one about so Kamakazied my Jug(p47) into the ground on your airfield  :D

Gentlemen Pilots,

I have a little suprise for you tonight..... :)

The scene is set on the Oahu Island, Hawaii. The American Fleet is resting in the harbour all is quiet and calm.
Unknown to American Intelligence, the Japanese forces have captured an airfiled on the East side of the island. Their aim, to destroy the American fleet.
Your task is to join the Japanese force ( Blue ) and destroy the fleet before they know what's going on. But don't delay the Sleeping Giant will awake.
Your opposition for tonight only will be 1 plane ( me ), I will not attack, just observe. If we get enough players, then eventually the game will also become a dogfight.  But for tonight everyone join the Blue force. With more players and once the Blues have worked out what to do, I would suggest a ratio of 5 blues to 1 red but we'll see how it pans out.
You will need to work together and adopt the correct strategy to accomplish your mission. I wish you good hunting..... :af

This will be a V4.01 game, if it all goes tits up ( it is my first effort ) I will stop the game and set up a V4.01m Dogfight. Maybe I'll do that anyway, after you've all been blown to bits............. ;D  ;D  ;D

The password will be MOSSIE the game will start at 19.00 BST prompt.

          Cya later, 'Angels 15'

4.01m - What difference is this... Is it the Ace's Expansion Pack ?

Hi Roj,

In answer to your question about 4.01m,  the "m" means a merged Install.  This is iL2 Forgotten battles and Pacific Fighters (nothing to do with the Ace Expansion Pack).

I have a stand alone Pacific Fighters Install, version 4.01, and I also have iL2+Aces+Pacific Fighters merged install, version 4.01m.  So I get loads of Planes with Crosses too  :af

So far we have only played (while I've been on-line anyway) with 4.01, the stand alone Pacific Fighters.  So dont worry just yet.

But Forgotten Battles is certainly worthwile, and will be handy if DH71 hosts any 4.01m games, corr just think....Germans in 109's defending gaggles of HE111's, ME 163 Komets,  Russians in Lavochkin LA7's, Mig 3's, oh and Finnish Gloster Gladiators and Blenheims, US B17's etc....dribble...  Really should get out more...

I enjoyed that, see what you mean by the Giant Awakes.  I was getting bomb hits with the Zero initially (before the AA) but the bomb blasts were bringing me down.  Flying too low...

Next time I'm gonna load up the Betty, get to 2000m and carpet bomb the whole dock.

Look forward to next time.

Yorkshire Bomber, it was the AA that was killing things, when the mission first started there was none at all, and the mission ran smooth.

Cheers

sounds like it was more a Anti Aircraft simulator then :ev

Some of the guys on the Il2 lobby have a Fly for Fun room with easy settings but realistic gunnery, great fun , but there are a lot out there who have to go the  whole  nine yards and think they are rerunning WW2,  at the end of the day it's just a game and a good time is the end result IMO :)

YB might give it another go next week :)

you can add a fuse delay to the bombs in the arming screen to stop the lowlevel bomb blast killing you

Know what you mean.  Some of the dogfights I have been in...sheesh.  No icons, no map, cockpit always on.  Cant see a damn thing with the cockpit on, which is a shame as the sounds are great and it looks awesome.  Really should practise with it on.  But at the end of the day, as you say...its only game and is there to be enjoyed and not struggled with.

No icons is a bit harsh... Cockpit always on is a good way to get better situational awareness.. Quite good !
Though I still think we should have the flight model on hard. :af

The Mission was fine for me too, but when the ships opened up the frame rate went south..
Never a problem with lots of fighters and bombers.

But here is why it is better to go with FB, it does NOT have the posher Flight Model of PF ( though realistic enough !! ). And the new flight model wreaks havoc on older PC:s framerate...
So we should perhaps look into FB more, besides the Luftwaffe is calling. The scenery is not as complicated either with Russia's flat landscap and dense woods...

Imagine our own battle of Britain !
Great !

Good game though last night. Should have gone with the Betty too when the guns where still quiet...
