Hi Phil, thanks a lot for the enlightning regarding the pump. It seems that the APS just do one size of the petrol pump, kind of one fits all and the flow can be "adjusted" with the battery voltage.
It has, as you noticed a DBV (Drück begrnzungs ventiel) pressure limit valve, apperantly the by-pass is done internally by this valve so no need for a tank return line.

A pretty expensive pice of kit at € 185:-, but I'll get my self one and try it out.

Great effort and congratulations on this airplane.  Please post a flight video, with engine sound.

I'm curious about the nose art.  Any decision yet?

Thanks, you should be proud of yourselves.

Waiting for the b****y weather to cheer itself up so we can go flying...................... :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:

Meanwhile..................

* Centre drop tank has been mounted, just needs clear coat.
* New glass sleeves for the new carbon tail tube have all be made and permanently fitted.......'tail wobble has gone' :af
* Both bombs are now glassed on top of the Kevlar.....one is curing, the 2nd has been flatted back, and the final flow coat of resin is curing.
*Some helpful chap on RCSB :-\ has persuaded me I need to make the four 20mm cannon barrels that stick out the wing L/E (will be made removable (screw in/out) to prevent accidental 'overnight marquee storage damage')........done the drawing, just need the ali tube and a borrow of Andrew's lathe for a few hours.

These will protrude 120mm from the wing L/E, and have a max O/D of 11mm.

..................and the video went off to 'tomfly' yesterday so it's now in his hands being 'Youtube'd' :)

Noseart...............last discussion I had with Ali, we came to the...... 'S*D IT' lets put 'NAKED F***Y' on it and be done with it'......decision, so we'll see.

Only one problem with that.  With such a gorgeous engine note you'd never EVER want to throttle back.  That's what I call poetry in motion.

Just congratulations and it's going to make Weston Park WELL worth the journey

Thanks for the kind comments guys....................much appreciated :)

On the 'noise'......I reckon it actually sounds better throttled back when it coughs and F**ts a bit...................you don't get to hear it on the video, but when it's sitting on the deck at a nice low idle, it really is a fantastic noise.

Just about finished putting the 4 x 20mm cannons in..................updates later.

My brother was round earlier (non modeller) and I showed him this thread (not all of it obviously! :'') and we both loved the flying vid. I realised why the engine makes such a glorious noise, it's the off beat of five cylinders that does it. Truly wonderful achievement, won't be many who can do this level of modelling.  :)

Colin, I had a bit of a problem trying to make a DVD :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: Got a lot of shiny coasters now ;D
I can make a DVD of the unedited video on my DVD recorder, but my PC wont copy to DVD, all I can copy to is VideoCD. I don't have this problem with my own digital camcorder files, so I guess it must be something to do with the loading the original through the composite input instead of using the firewire connection.
PM me your addy and I will send you a copy of both.

4 x 20mm Cannons.......................made from concentric 3/8" and 1/2" aluminium tube, with a turned aluminium plug in the end, drilled/tapped to take a nylon M6 wing bolt (bolt drilled and pinned into the plug to stop it rotating before the plug was Hysol'd into the end of the barrel)

16mm holes drilled into the LE to corespond with the positions of the shell ejection ports on the underside of the wing....holes lines with 0.2mm Proskin to tidy them up. With the slight sweep back on the LE, mounting the guns at 90 degrees to it would have them diverging, so Cyparis/ply tapered blocks with 'Modelfixings' M6 threaded inserts glued in were made to glue to the rear face of the 1/4" ply false LE (accessed through the open ends of the tip and centre section panels) to make all 4 guns point directly forwards.....................

forgive me if this question has allready bee addressed earlier in thread, was provision made for the drilling of the 16mm dia holes in leading edge to mount cannons, if not will this weaken the LE at all, i may just "borrow" your idea fo a smaller Spit cannons  :af

The 'false' LE behind the 3/4" balsa LE is made from 1/4" birch ply.................this is around 30/35mm deep, and up until now, total solid root to tip...................remember also it's not really 'load carrying', so 4 x 16mm holes at around 1/2 span......I can't see those causing any problems.

At the moment, I have no idea.......the old girl is heading back up here after the completion of the Spitfire (thread totally gone  :'() and our trip over to 'Top Gun' to have the 400 radial replaced with something a little more 'manly' (a 1/3 more cc's, and well over double the HP :ev :ev)........depending on how smoothly this progressed will depend on where she goes during '09

I remembered - it was fighteraces & ali do top gun.

There is some stuff in google cache, but not enough to rebuild the thread.  :'(

As far as I know, Phil has no plans to rebuild the Spitfire thread. I think it's staying under cover now until complete. The Skyraider on the other hand is to be rebuilt, or at least a new engine fitted for this season, if all goes to plan.

Hi all

Yes...as Stephen says, the Spit thread will not be reproduced. As with some of my other threads which have been duplicated over on RCSB, the Spit was only shown here so as not to let them over the other side see 'too much'. I have all the pics, but all the text is lost and with 8 months worth gone, it's just too much to reproduce with the current work load.

I plan on photographing things as normal as we work towards completion, and there may be the odd pic here and there, but the bulk will not be shown until we're 100% complete.

News from Hacker this morning is that the replacement 200/8 motor is still in manufacture and is not likely to be here for another week or more..........so our proposal of getting a flight or 2 in before it's fully detailed and painted has had to be abandoned as taking a few days out to get the Spit down to Ali (Longhorsley is just to wet at present) for a few flights is not effective use of time at present. We'll just have to pray all goes to plan and she flies OK once 100% complete. The good news however is they have now carried out some tests on the 200/8 on a BIGGER prop than we plan on using, and on a 14s set-up, they are not seeing the excessive current draw we saw on the 200/6 motor....so it looks like the Solo prop will be usable after all :af

The Spit will be with me at the LMA Wigan event this weekend for those present to see how we're getting on........I'm pleased to report ALL of it is now in primer having spent the last 2 full days 'fettleing' the wing. The elevators have been permanently attached today, rudder and ailerons to follow....and the seat is FINISHED ::cc)
