Sam and I have now opened the box. ;D

The kit is very well packed so transportation should not cause any damage.

The kit looks very nice, the Fuz is top bananas just like the Spit.
The Cowl is pretty dam good, the quality and detail is something to see.

The Spinner is very nice as you can see.

First impressions is that the kit is just as good as the Spitfire, Once I have finished Sam's Demon I shall start on his 109.

Well done Wilson looks the biz.

How about a dry assembled photo, it does look good and the quality is very good, I had a quick look in a box earlier this week.

DB

I'm not aiming to hijack your thread, but I thought this the place to make this posting.

To the YT team I would like to say that my 109 arrived today, and I'm really impressed with the quality of the components. "Good job boys!" the only down side was as I slid the box out of the packing cardboard, the first thing I see is Redshaw's ugly mug looking back at me  :ev.....Come on chaps...there's no need to scare people, I mean, kids could open the box. Why couldn't you use a scantily clad female?  but to use Ian....thats not the best of idea's.:ev  ;D

Joking aside....I really am impressed with the kit, good clear canopy, decent glass cowl, matt finish to both decals and the model. I like the way you have used simple colours allowing the modeller to expand upon colour scheme of their choice (thats a clever move) My only criticism would be you should enclose a spinner its a vital part of the 109's look. I personally would have preferred that to things like the tank/mount etc...and at £260 you are priced at the better end of the market, were value for money comes into the equation. Anyway other than that, really pleased with it.

A message to Tiger......Your nemesis was "at the door"....now "The 109 is in the building" (as they say  ;))
The production of your defeat starts next week.......your spits days are numbered!  :ev :af ;D

Real aeroplanes have propellers...anything else is nothing but a paraffin burner...........besides,

TRUST ME!  the spinner is sold at a VERY low mark up,  its machined from billet,   prices for similar custom made spinners, from tru turn(the only ones we know who do this sort of thing) are three times higher!     as for ians earthy mug,   sorry,  i think you should have had 260quid knocked off!!

thinks,   do we have a scantily clad designer?  syms??  ARRRGGHH  THE THOUGHT :o

Greyflyer
Have had a close look at that photo of the bloke holding the plane, is that a hair net on his head?

On more serious note, a big well done to you Ian you have done a cracking job.

The plane has been designed to make it as universal as possible, it is sold world wide, with that in mind the retract installation has been done to allow for the use of 80 degree retracts as well as 90 degree. If you are using 90 degree ones you will need to pack up the inboard end of the retract by 2mm to give a more scale like angle on the legs.

The 109 looks great!

One question, Ian I meet you at the Hucknall Rolls Royce meeting a couple of years ago when you brought your great scale 109 to the show and set up besides the Long Eaton boys. This is still the best 109 I have ever seen, how does the YT one compare in size?

Cheers Nic, the YT 109 is taken from the drawings of the original you saw at Hucknall, with a couple of mods, to make it more practical to build and fly. It flies superb, even on the lowly RCV91CD the prototype has in it. No doubt some here and lots in the States will be fitting 90cc at least :ev :af

Look out for the video which is coming soon.

Ian.

Hi Ian,
Just wanted to know what sort of paints you used for the weathering?
Do you need to do any additional markings on the plane?
look forward to seeing the vid.
Cheers,
Jon.

I am well impressed with the quality, it is going together very easily, the Laser 120 is just visible from the side, not sure about the tank position for the Laser might be a bit high, but seeing as a I dont intend to any extended inverted flying should not cause a problem. If it does it is an easy mod. I have lined the wheel wells with 1/64 ply, prefer wood to plastic. I spent ages trying to get a match the paint on the underside so could paint the wheel wells, its close enough. The wheel well covers need a bit of a curve on them, I found the best way was to remove the balsa strips, rub a some water on the unpainted surface and put in the microwave for 30 seconds. Remove and hold a curve in the cover slightly greater than needed and allow to cool, repeat this process until the right shape is achieved.

Did someone say Mosquito  :o :co

The 109 looks very very very good both in the box and on the video.  Another top notch job from Ian & YT. I must hurry up and finish my Spitfire. Now would someone going by name of "Spitfire_peter" be allowed to buy a 109? Would I be hauled off to the Tower of London? Receive a home visit from some angry RAF types?

The grapevine is correct, RCV will be launching a new RCV120CD this year, but the dates aren't fixed yet.
We are hoping they will be available by September or October, however this will be dependent on the prototype testing and manufacturing timescales.  Currently we are only in the early stages with the initial plans drawn up and are now looking to cut some metal.  Specifications will not be finalised until after the pre-production prototype testing which should hopefully occur around June time.  Once this is done I will be able to publish the specs of the engine.  Until then all I can say is that it is certainly another very compact engine, with the height from the mount to the top of the engine being around 94mm.

I am sure the RCV120CD will be a perfect match for the ME109 and Spitfire, however after watching Ian's video of the ME109 powered by an RCV91CD, that looks like a pretty good match too.

Best regards
Laurenne

Hi Guys,

BUFF's back :D :D :D

permission to come aboard? :co(are we having one communal build thread or lots of individual ones?)

I sent Wilson a goodly amount of beer tokens and a large lump of Luftwaffe arrived on my doorstep this morning :af

I have to admit to pre-empting its arrival somewhat by having purchased and perused the excellent SAM publication, combat colours No 1 looking for a scheme I fancy.

This book is full of page after page of colour schemes, (W.Nr 1190 of 4/JG26 "the TIGER hunters" looks interesting :D :D :D ;D)

tactical markings and stencils

cammo summer and autumn schemes as well as colour chips.

I have also started work on making up the paint masks for all the stencil markings and vinyl wing access panels for the 109E.

[img]Got my Kit the week after seeing Wilson at Haigh Hall.

Am very impressed with the kit no problems that I can see.

Can't wait to start work on weathering it.

Keep up the good work guys. Anyone found specific paints that match what the kit comes in yet? Anyone detailing the cockpit? Might add guns in the wing too along with the blisters on the underside for the magazine barrels.

Fitted the steerable tail wheel, I decided in the end to make a hatch in the recessed part of the fus behind the tail wheel to give access to the tail wheel linkage and the elevator linkage. I have gone for a wire joiner on the elevator, with a single push rod.

This one is an absolute doddle to put together and looks stunning as soon as the fuel proofing has dried I will post some pics. Started it Sunday and then 4 evenings work and she is just about finished just got to paint the spinner and finish making the cannons ready for those spits, also waiting on the pilot which was promised to me two days ago (DB P7966) and the new longer Oleo's which should be available middle of next week.

Although got a feeling that the 109E was more like a 109G.

But still a nice movie clip. I wonder what ""TIGER"" will say about it then :D :D ;D

Unless of course they are Merlin powered 109s...... :ev  :ev

In this case, I suppose, we should really call them Spitfires.......
