If you're looking for a simple way to re-size digital images for the gallery or for your posts via the "attachment method", then you might consider the "image resizing" power-tool from Microsoft for XP ...

Microsoft PowerToys for Windows XP

Once you have the tool installed, you can right-click on any image file, select "resize pictures".  I tried it out on a 2567x1932 raw linage off of my camera and re-sized to 640 x 680.  The file-size reduced from about 1.6Mb to a very respectable 49kb with no noticeable loss of quality!

Give it a try - it's a dog's life  :af

<Edit> Just noticed another feature of this tool.  If you right click on an image file and select "send to|Email" it offers you the opportunity to re-size your image for emailing ...quite cute I think?

For Vista (or XP) you can download and use the Prish image resizer

32 bit  32bit_PrishResizer_2519.msi - Windows Live

64 bit  http://cid-6a6a204abdf15411.skydrive.live.com/self.aspx/.Public/PrishImageResizer/1.0.2519/64bit%5E_PrishResizer%5E_2519.msi

I am definitely not computer literate :o , so I had to find a way of resizing  my pics for the forum, It seems so easy I am very suspicious that "I am cocking something   up" ;D

all I do is find my photo ,  click on the email it , it then says do you want to make it smaller , click the OK, you then get a letter with it added , right click to "save as " and bobs your uncle , a resized photo in your folder ready for transfer to the forum . :af

Easier than that Stig ... if all you want to do is to use it on the forum, right click on the image, resize it which produces a file called nameofyourfile(small).jpg ....then you go to the bottom of your post, slect "Additional options" and browse for your new smaller image ...and that's it!

Wiz, I have tried uploading pictures for posts a couple of times, 1 for my advice needed and once for my FF9 add.

On both occasions when I got to the continue button the next screen was a site unavailable notification and the only exit was to close the dialogue box.  In the first instance, the picture later appeared in my post but not for the FF9 add.

???  Have I missed something?  (in second case jpg file size wad 50kB)

Under the New Post message box is a row of buttons one of which is Upload Image - I am trying it now

clicking this opens a new dialogue box for uploading images and I select one from my HD and click continue

The image uploads and I get a successful upload message and another "continue" button.  If I click that ......... I get "Page cannot be displayed.  I must be missing something but there is no explanation in the previous page with any instruction.

Jerry

I just tried again, using My Gallery and following Graham D's instructions.  Uploaded 4 files and got successful upload message.  Click continue gets me the Server Not Available message from which there is no escape.  Doh!

Hi Jerry

Just followed the upload method your using (with a small image) & everything works fine  8)
Attempted it again with a large image & end up with exactly the same "Page cannot be displayed" message as you describe... :-\
Perhaps it's because your image is too big for some reason  :-\

Could you not try & save Wiz's pic of his labrador to your hard drive & see if that uploads without any problems?
If it does work it could be down to image sizes....If it doesn't, well thats another story  :ww

Just a thought  :af

Works ok for me  :)

Labrador! Labrador indeed!  She 1/2 Lab, half Collie  :ww

For just adding a one-off in-line image, try using the "attachment method".  At the bottom of the post, you see "Additional option".  Click on that, browse for an image and bob's yer uncle - in this case the image appears at the bottom of your post but, if you included the code

Code: [Select]
[attach=1]
Then the image will appear in-line with the text.

Shouldn't that be a Labradollie? or a Collador?  ;D

Thanks Guys, I wonder if my problem stems from the indication in the Upload Image box that I can upload files of size up to 10240KB    ???

As my pictures are only about 450KB I rather thought this would be OK  :-[

I will try the attachment method

Here is my X400   :)

File size 95KB

ms-mouse, with the way the weather's going it'll never get used. Normally it sits on the front of a keil kraft falcon but I took it out for the winter.

BTW Wiz, that powertool doesn't work with vista :-\

Hi PP,
Give Bulk Image Resizer a go, I've used it and it's ok, and it says it works with Vista  :af

The free trial is all you need, but I think it's limited to 10 files at once IIRC
Steve

edit: just noticed it's limited to 20 conversions in total, but it's $9.99 to buy, so it won't break the bank.

For Vista (or XP) you can download and use the Prish image resizer
32 bit  32bit_PrishResizer_2519.msi - Windows Live

64 bit  64bit_PrishResizer_2519.msi - Windows Live

Right click on your "my computer" icon and go to properties. You will see it on the window that pops up.

How do you re-size for classifieds?
I down loaded the Windows toys re-sizer and re-sized the image to 640 x 480 which it the smallest image, but it still says the image is too large when I try and up load it.
What am I doing wrong?

I have used Picasa for ages, to resize images. Import into Picasa, then export in resized form to My Docs as a resized image.
