Had to use the search to dig this dinosaur up!   ;D

As I mentioned I'm going to do my best to get some colour onto the Jug over the next months. There are few areas that I'm not particularly happy with and need to fix to make it presentable. I assembled the whole lot today to get inspirational vibes and see if my surfboard wing was still as big as I'd remembered when assembled...   it is!    :af

The plane is 8 kg(17.6lbs) as it is today with the retracts installed.

Einar trying to skip town with the surfboard!

I see from the photos that the ailerons are just taped into place.

Does that mean you have not yet made the hinges?

If so, are you going to use scale hinging?
What about the flaps, are they hinged correctly?

Correct, at least on the aileron which will be top hinged, the flaps are bottom hinged(although these are made but I forgot them at home).

Both the ailerons and flaps are bottom hinged, or below bottom hinged to be precise.

See photos.
Also note the curved edge on the aileron leading edge/wing trailing edge.
This is on the underside only.

The flap hinges are a real pain in the  a....

I might still change the flap hinges but not sure what I'll do on the ailerons(one reason why I haven't made them yet).

Here are two photos showing the flap hinges "in action"
Two links are needed, one going from the top of he actuator arm to the top of the flap. This will give the downward flap movement.
The second arm also goes from the actuator arm, but to the center bolt on the flap bearing arm, this gives the aft movement of the flap.

Making the flap hinges correctly is what really sets your P47 apart from the models......

The aileron hinges can be made like photo #3. Change the aileron nose into the red shape (if it is originally symmetrical) and use hinges like the yellow part.

There's a guy on RCSB, WimR who is building a P47 from scratch, including the correct flaps and aileron hinges.

I live in Phoenix, Arizona , USA and am very happy to see your progress.  I am building a 1/6 th scale P-47 Razorback Thunderbolt and am well into the build.  I wish you luck and have used your site/build for information and a way of staying infront of the learning curve.  Cudos.

Wingtip and LE got the sandpaper treatment.

The old aileron was too low in the middle.

Hello Selleri,
I am trying to post photos.   I am not too good with internet forums.  I used a typical digital camera and stored the pictures on my computer.  I try to post photos thru link you told me about but my photos are too large of a file.  What do i have to do?  P.S. why are you sanding the LE of wing so severly?
thanks
Albert

Albert look here > http://www.rcmf.co.uk/4um/index.php/topic,32855.0.html < to see how you can resize your pictures. Another option would be to upload them first to an online gallery.

The front of the LE was a bit too square for its own good so it's being fixed with a bit of TLC.   :af

here is day one on scrolling saw.  What I have done is to pdf my drawings that came from a plans company of R/C planes.  Once I digitize them I send them to my hard drive then using an over sized printer of 17x8 paper or standard printer I get copies and cut them out and tak glue them to balsa or plywood and cut out by hand.
Back in October of 2010 is started to really to struggle with landing gear.  I had to get geometry going for up verses landing positions.  I had never worked with retracts and this is my first effort at giant war bird.  This P-47 is smaller than your Ziroli at about 1/6 vs. 1/5 and my plane has an 88'' span
See third picture of fuselage last week and last pictures are of wing last week

What is going on did you fall into a volcano?
I am working on my 82" P-47 not 88" as I had a typing error.  I am worried about it's weight at about 24 pounds at take off.  What do you guys think?

Nahh, just the usual summer blues, flying, traveling, flying etc.  :)

I wouldn't worry about those weight numbers, shouldn't give you much trouble for your size.

Flaps

Not going full out in the scale department.    :-X

The full size has the hinge below and back on the aileron but a more tradional method is used here.

Getting closer to the paint stage.

As you can maybe see the hinging method for the aileron wasn't going to work due to the curve on the top side, so it was changed to a center hinged setup.

"New" ailerons.

Got new shoes for the Thunderbolt, Du-Bro 5.5" via Ziroli, not the most scale like but for $35 each I can't complain!   :af
