Hi all, Dave sent me some pics of his current project a 1/4 Sacale Sea Fury he's building with the assistance of Tim Simmonds.
They know the pictures are here, and hopefully they'll come out of the woodwork and let us know how things are progressing.
I don't know the exact dimensions, but it is over 20kg and an LMA inspector has been appointed.
 Enjoy :)

Very nice indeed  :co

The engine almost looks in proportion to the airframe. I'm jealous  :D

I need a new witty signature...

Many a true word said in jest  :embarassed: it did come out a bit more heavy than I wanted, but should be okay.

Steve, I'm waiting for Dave and Tim to join in. Perhaps they're shy and need a little more persuasion. Size wise, a bit big for the bench. The spinner is 8 3/8" Dia, thats all I know for sure.

Thanks Colin for uploading the Pics. Once I figure out how to drive this computer (forum novice, I only joined today!) I will try and upload more pics of the wings and undercarriage.

A few more details of the model:

It is being built from the Jerry Bates Plan, it is all built up construction including the cowling. The kit of parts were laser cut by Belair Models.

The plane is quarter scale 115" wingspan. The engine is a Mackay 250cc 5 cylinder Radial we have ran the engine and it sounds great, however we have yet to run it with the new spinner that Colin has kindly made on this CNC lathe. We therefore yet to know it it will be ok?. The spinner weighs 1.25lbs alone and we are hoping to use a 34" prop.

Welcome to the forum Dave and thanks for sharing the details, awesome stuff!  :) :) :)
Am a bit of a Sea Fury fan myself, what colour scheme/aircraft is it going to be finished as?
Advice on how to upload photos here:

Thanks Pete,

I have yet to finalise the scheme, it was going to be the same as the Royal Naval Historic Flight aircraft i.e. the Korean scheme with the black and white strips on the wings and tail. This scheme will help to hide a join we have on the model in front of the fin to ease transportation. My plans are now up in the air because I understand they have recently repainted the full size to a dark grey scheme? and I do not know how this will look on the model, therefore I am open to suggestions (I would ideally like a royal navy scheme with a coloured spinner? ideally red but I do not know if the Royal Navy Sea Furies had coloured spinners or if they tended to be grey.

Dave

The only Naval scheme I can see that used a red nose does not have stripes, you would have to go with grey, If you need more info give me a shout  :af

Seafurys look at their very best in stripes  :ev

Carmichael's is absolutely typical of Seafurys and in my humble opinion sums up what everything thinks of when they imagine a Seafury. He also taught a MiG 15 pilot a damn good lesson in manners  ;D

I need a new witty signature...

Just wow!!!  :af :af :af

Welcome to the forum Dave and thanks for sharing the details, awesome stuff!  :) :) :)

Me too!! I just love'em :af (and welcome)

In the April edition of Flying Scale Models magazine there is quite a feature on the Jerry Bates 101" fury built by Brian O'Meara and Bruno Mary.
They went for a Cuban scheme as they were left bare metal with a coloured tail and spinner. It looks stunning. Its got a Moki 215 radial up front and Sierra custom landing gear.

I wish I was building a bigger one now as all the detail I want to put on it may end up being too much weight.

I'll have a look for a pic now!!

Please please please keep us updated with as much info as you can and techniques for finishing and building etc :-*

One thing I have to say is tho.................. this one in the magazine is fantastic and has all the working lights and flip down landing lights, pilot, cockpit etc but the exhaust doesn't work. Its just a dummy and there are two other holes in the cowl where it exits.
Now I would have thought an engine like that is just crying out for a working exhaust............it has to be done!! At least consider it???

Maybe this for an idea http://www.rcmf.co.uk/4um/index.php/topic,25821.40.html   :'' ;)

Cheers

            Ben

http://wp.scn.ru/en/ww3/f/205/50/0 There are loads in the wings palette website. 541 from cuba was the one in the mag.
Also a real nice one from the bay of pigs comflict again 541. V.dark green cammo.

Hi Dave

You hadn't thought of WH588 then, seeing as you didn't get round to painting "Suzy"?....... no stripes i'm afraid but a nice yellow spinner?..........

Andy.........

PS if you want the sound check this out.....
although I guess yours will be flown (and landed) a little better!....:)

Wow, lovely engine noise, especially at idle.  Don't know about the landing though,  That would have been one of my better ones  ;D

Great build Dave, it looks beautiful   :af

Hi,

Thanks for all the info and nice comments concerning the sea fury project. I will try and upload some additional photos and info  shortly.

It is nice to see some colour schemes that I have not seen previously. The choice of scheme is going to be difficult!.

I'm hoping seeing some of this one will give me some inspiration to get going again ::) I need to do a video of the exhaust don't I :embarassed:
