It flew !  ::cc ::cc
Took it to the field on Wed night.  Fueled up and gave the new SC 36 a bit of starter abuse and with a twiddle of the needle she was singing.  My mate hand launched and she was away.  A bit of left and down trim and I was happy.  A little into the flight I realise that I had a bit too much elevator.  (I like lots normally) but no probs.  5 minutes in and my eyes are watering a bit, cos of the speed and the really dull grey sky - so I come in on an approach, bring it back to idle and it glides in a two feet stady as a rock, a small flair out and she's back on the deck - what a little honey :af

Flight 2 of the night.  My mate wants us to fly together, he gets his 109 launched and I get someone who hasn't hand launched before to give the old crow a chuck.  I briefed him on how, but we had a slight communication breakdown on when.  It goes off at half throttle, I wanged it open and kept repeating - "resist the elevator" over and over.  She got up to speed at about two inches from the deck, a gentle bit of elevator and she's climbing (twitching starts to subside)

The rest of the flight was sweet with us chasing around, but the 109 was much faster.  I put it down to me having an extra servo - and I'm sticking to it :''

Third flight again was excellent and using the rudder for some amazing flicks.

Anyway I've waffled too long.  I'm really chuffed with this plane and when the engine loosens up, the 109 will be mine - oh yes all mine!!

A couple of after flight pics below.

As we knew they fly!! I am glad you are chuffed with your new purchase. A bit of airtime and fly with the ATS Team (after the innitiation - marsh mallows etc!!). Built straight from the instructions and 100% standard. Only 2 weeks to wait for the main shipment. All have flown straight as a die. Thanks again to the test flyer Dave Stephens and Modeltech for the assistance.  ::cc

As Mike says completely standard it's the business.

A bit of airtime and fly with the ATS Team (after the innitiation - marsh mallows etc!!).

I'm up for that. :ev

Hi all,
Took mine out yesterday with a second engine installed as the first one I tried was a little low on power for racing. The difference was stunning. The OS 32's are great but occasionally you get one thats not quite up to the job. I've had two of these now and it seems that the problem is to do with how much compression the engine has. Strangely the ones with less compression go much better.

I'm sure that once the engine has run for a while it'll loosen up but I buy mine for racing and for show flying so that's not an option for me.

As I said the ARTF Mustang is now fantastic to fly. A slightly different approach is required to make fast pylon type turns without bleeding off too much speed, I've noticed that you need to start the turn early and smoothly rather than hauling on the stick straight away as with many other models but once the turn has started it'll pull round fine. A lower expo setting here would help say -25% - -35% (Futaba) as a starting point. It's important though to get the full elevator movement just right so that full up gives only the maximum possible turn rate without losing too much speed. :af

Hey Daren - I was racing in Club 2000 and have to say that your aircraft looked great buddy! Have a few questions for you on our Reno300 class and airframes:

1. Where can I get a copy of the rules?
2. Your aircraft looked beautifully made - are the fuses glass?
3. What's the budget for a good racing set-up based on what you boys had there on the weekend?
4. Which airframe won? Looks to me like that Kawasaki would be the quickest...#
5. By and large, what's the motor to race with?

Thinking about it for next years Nats and this time I'd like to get started early!

Hi
I will jump in on this one.
1. Rules can be found on www.reno300.com.
2. Most of the models were glass fuselage, but a few were traditional built up. It looks like it is settling down to glass group A, built up/ARTF group B.
3. Glass kit £130.00 mustang or toni, ARTF mustang £89.00, ARTC £79.00, traditional kit £55.00 mustang, ME109, FW190D and Spitfire. Using Hi-tec 225mg/81 in glass models and standard servos in ARTF or trad build.
4.  Glass mustang won from glass toni by 0.2 second. Speed gun was put on both glass mustang and toni both doing the same about 120mph from pylon 1 to 2.
5. One west 25 with mini-pipe all the rest OS32SX on standard silencer.
It is definitely catching on and i think this is down to the look of the models they are based on WW2/reno racers. the only unfortunate thing was that we were flying on the 180 metre course as opposed to our normal 150 metre course which tends to make them look better
regards

Mike - what's the overall contruction of the glass Toni - still foam wings etc I presume? Or is it fully glassed? And how rtf is it? You wouldn't have a set of instructions you could email over that I could peruse to get a better idea of the airframe? Was a bit daft - I didn't consider one until I'd actually left the Nats, otherwise I would have done the intelligent thing and visited your trade stand!!

Hello Zim,
I have two of these and can vouch for there viceless flying qualities and handling. . . . amazing glide!!  all my funfighters including the slot models i use with the team are powrered by OS 32 SX which in my opinion is by far the most supereoir motor of its size on the market. There are motors with a bit more power but they do not have the consistency and reliability of the OS. The models have a glassfibre fuselage ( i think you can specify the colour ) The kits mike had on his stand came with bulkhead installed with the mount and cutout fot the OS. The rudder is also a moulded item which is cut from the fuselage after it comes out of the mould, there is also a moulded belly pan. The wings come ready to glass cloth or film, they have a foam core, glass cloth then balsa sheet skin. My wings are finished with glass cloth and they are VERY STRONG!! the torque rods are already installed and require you to cut the ailerons out. The tailplane is a thin ply balsa sandwich which is the sanded to section ( you do this yourself ) it comes down to a nice sharp edge you can then glass it and cut the elevators out, the slots in the fuselage need to be cut out to slide the tail in. The mustang is of similar construction as is the ME 109.  The glide on these models is amazing!! if you try and land it like a normal funfighter you will be going for a walk!! Alan brown certainly new what he was doing when he designed the tony and the mustang. . . . crackin flyers!! the OS suits them perfectly. As you would probably have gathered by now i am a massive fan of the tony, i have three wood kit tony's and two glass and i am giving very serious consideration to a third!! they fly every bit as good as they look and you will not regret adding one of thees to your stable. ta dude - have a bit on at the moment getting ready for a sloping extravaganza to Wales at the end of the month, but I do rather fancy one of these little buggers. Scale without the borebird aspect. Marvellous.

Hi, Sorry I didn't reply earlier but I rarely get on here these days. Pretty much all your questions have been answered already except to say that all servos and bad battery pack come to about £70-80 depending where you shop. I use an 800mah nimh pack with 2/3rds AA cells.

These models are creamy smooth to fly Get one.

Ta for the comments on the model use R/C Graphics for the colour scheme.

Cheers.

same as for any other engine, straight down the middle of the airframe ???
as for the CofG, cut out the little black and white circle thingy and write OS25 in the white section so it knows what engine your using and how to change the aircrafts balance
stick this to the side of the fuz in exactly the same place as it was shown on the plan and described in the instructions, make sure the plane balances here and the circle will do the rest.
