any you lot out there know if the tiggy cat had fabric covered rudder/elevators.....or were they skinned with Ali?......before i start with this kit need to do some research.....looked on the net...found some picky's but not that clear......

reading some of the other reports on this build.....the supplied maybe slighty heavy?......making them from balsa/solatex will be lighter......if that were the case..

cheers

Sorry Dave, two of my ref books are in Polish and the "In Action" book doesn't mention it, it doesn't look like fabric in the pics but as they are small it's difficult to say

On the only full scale I've seen it was aluminium.

lol, I wouldn't bet any money against Phil but could it be related to what mark of plane you have?

Early Thunderbolts had fabric covered control surfaces but later had aluminium.

maybe it's an excuse to go too DX tomorrow :af

I think you are some months too late for that...   last I saw of that cat it was heading west after take off from BIRK.

Just been on the rc universe forum on F-7F tigercat page 21 and seen the saito 170's in the cowls!!  It also appears that all the models flown so far come out at similar weight, whether using Rcv 91's or Zenoah 26. If you have to have loads of lead upfront you might as well have engine weight etc. I think I will go the Radial route now. She will sound ace ::cc

Have I misread the building instructions, or are the gear doors (mains) not functional, and that you are supposed to hack some appropriate opening to let the oleo and wheel pass through?

Hi Dave,
Excuse me for sticking my nose in: you lot have a fellow builder who is a real expert on things Tigercat. Here is his approach to the fabric-covered elevators: http://www.rcmf.co.uk/4um/index.php/topic,16116.60.html

Those of you who are putting one of these together and are considering larger engines than suggested (2 x 91 four strokes).
Please bear this in mind, the prototype was flown on two RCV 91CD's final weight 22lb, one recently test flown in the States powered by two RCV90SP's final weight 22.5lb. http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_4814227/mpage_21/key_/tm.htm

It does not need much more power than this, if at all, bigger engines add more weight and the extra weight is not in the ideal position on this warbird(should be as far forward as possible).

Hi,
More food for thought: here is a pic of a KMP Tigercat, equipped with two Zenoa G-26s. Model can be found on RC Universe, has completed two successful flights. Recently replaced the G-26 powerplant in my Balsa USA 1/4 scale Fokker D-VIII with a tired Enya 120FS   :'' result-the Enya flew the D-VIII very well. IMHO, the G-26s definately will not overpower the KMP Tigercat!
BTW, same engines mounted in the KMP Bearcat have only the plug wire emerging in the bottom cooling opening.

Going back to original intention, putting Zenoah 20's back in!!  Just bought another plane!!!  :'' more expence     also got reservations about fitment of R170's within cowls and relibility,  compared to Zenoah's. Plus 2x R170 is £1100.00!!!  Spoke to Glen models thinks the Zenoah 20's would be a better bet than 26's.  Start building next week. ::cc    Richard.

Yes it will :D,  I am going to crack on with mine as I want to get it flying asap. It will be intresting to see how the different powerplants chosen for this plane perform in terms of flight performance and handling qualities.Due to my other purchase, I thought £1100.00 for 2 Radials of which, would cause fitment issues was a bit steep.      Richard.

Hi folks,
Progressing well with Tigercat. Can anybody confirm if they got 2 types of nacelle covers for the retract bays? In the so called instructions it states "two nacelle bottom covers are supplied for optional assembly of door"  I got 4 pieces of heavy composite which are no good at all really.  I think there should be 2 one piece covers which if you want, you can just cut out for the  wheel/oleo retraction. This would be a quick solution before trying to work out the door operation.
I will be making my outer wing panels removable to aid transportation/storage, keeping the fuz and centre section in one piece.
Cheers richard.  :)

richard,

there's alot of stuff on the retract doors on RC universe......i guess you have seen that.....not too sure what i'am doing with mine......i won't be going to the same degree as the 109.....just build this one out of the box.......probably be over Xmas i'll start the build...you'll have your's done by then ::cc ::cc

there's someone who has fitting 2, flat OS160 twins in...but that will sound nice

hi richard,

got the airframe out of the attic this morning and put the parts together 'dry'......doesn;'t seem a problem with mine, all lines up!......must have had the monday morning one!.....lol...anyway will start to post stuff on the build.....afew things i'd like to do...one re-do the scheme....any tigercat lovers out there know of one?......i want to keep the all over blue.....have seen some yellow/red /blue schemes but that will be too much work......i'll try and keep this to a minium build time scale ..

having looked at the plane so far.....i'm not too keen on the gloss finish.....i've tested a part on the underside with a soft sanding pad and feel i could mask off each panel and rub it flat....in different degrees of matt so to give it a more weathered look.....the jet boys do this with aluclad and the results look stunning.....it could  be all that's required...some aluclad patches around the cowls and finally some washes and exhaust stain......one of those 1/6 scale dragon pilots will look good up-front....

well that's the plan....what do you think?

feel free chaps to post some nice schemes

cheers

dave

well it certainly looks like I got the Friday afternoon!!! My outer panels fit poorly when the tubes are inserted. It will look superb with the gloss level toned down. I am about to start fitting engines and retracts to nacelles. Did you buy the budget retracts?
I am making my outer panels removable if I can get them to fit better.
Cheers Richard. :af
