Guys
I am torn between using the RCV91s or the RCV130s on my Tigercat. :-\
From the video it appears that the prototype was flown quite well on the 91s but as we all know film can be deceiving. So can any of you guys out there who are either flying or almost finished building the Tigercat give me any thoughts. (Clean ones of course  ;D)
Thanks

Ian

Hi Ian,
I am putting 2x Zenoah 20 petrols in mine. They fit in quite nicely. The prototype was really quite different in structure from the ones we have and I feel ours will be heavier. If I was putting RCV's in mine, I would go for the bigger 130. I am just installing my engines at present.     :af

The protoype was quite different in structure, however is was considerably modified and reinforced so it was flyable, dry weight was 22lb, I read in RC universe some else using RCV 91's came out with about the same weight. Mine did have if I recall about 6oz of lead in the nose cone. It fly at the YT fly-in off thick, not so short, very water logged grass. The choice is yours.

My opinion in this, and this is with ANY twin,   if you can get petrols in, then do it,   reliability is the key word here, and i dont trust ANY methanol engine in this situation,      the RCV cd engines have a great pedigree,  but then,   so have ALL my petrols,  never had a dead stick yet, cept when out of petrol  :embarassed:

Can see two camps here. I'll move swiftly into the petrol camp, coz I'm biased....  :'' :'' :''

I am neutral to be honest, I just think after using one, in my Yak,  the Zenoah 20 is a great engine, and will be well suited to the T.C.
My new B25 has 2x glow engines, although if it were bigger, I would maybe put petrols in that.
At the end of the day its down to personal choice. :af

that was the american one that went in,  tough luck,  any twin is a risk,   but petrol has a great track record,    i can state here hand on heart that i have never had a dead stick, never fiddled with needles,   only when you mess with a petrol engine do they kick your a-ss,   leave them alone, and they are totally trustworthy,   ask ANY Lma guy what he would put in a twin, the answer will always be the same,   I have now been operating petrols for many years,    never any bother,    never will have either,

hi all
i'll second that petrol is far more reliable than any glow i've run ever and thats not an understatement because i've had quite a few glow engines and i'll now not use it unless i really have no other choice

Hi K/f,

You mean someone actually went flying yesterday - the weather was bl**dy awful  :banghead: - now that's what I call dedication. Me, I'm all for a nice warm garage & my daily exercise would consist of sanding the odd bit of wood, paint, whatever :ev

Guys
Thanks for all the info. I have never had petrol in any model and don't really know much about them. But have done some research and it seems that the guys on the other side of the pond are using either the Evolution 26GT, the Zenoah 20EI or the Zenoah 26. If I was to go down that road I kinda like the Evolution as there would be very little sticking out of the cowl. Any comments?
Thanks
Ian

I am putting the Zenoah 20 in minewith no carb trumpet and only part of the plug cap will show. I think with the evolution it will be similiar. I personally have no experience with these motors. I have seen a couple in Hanger 9 P47's and they seemed to overheat. However, this was caused I feel, due the cowl not being baffled to ensure the cooling air was passing through the cylinder head fins.    Cheers Richard. :af P.S will post picture of my engine installation when finished.
