Hi All, Have just picked up the Robin.  Opened the box, I thought it was Xmas come early. ::cc
Wife not too impressed, took over her kitchen to open the box and stole the table.   I told her it was for Wison

Took some pics just to start with.  Must admit my first thoughts are. very nice   Should have it ready to display for the NATs

Motor ready for it is a ZDZ 50

I Want one! Going to get one this year. Already have the engine - a Saito FA-300TTDP. Flat twin 50cc, twin plug/carb pumped. Ran it this morning and sounded superb!
After seeing it as the nats, that made my mind up!

I had a Fa100T and loved it but airframes for it were limited. How much did it set you back? *re-ignites interest in Robin*

You see this is what i don't understand, look at the picture of the engine and your see that the locknut only uses half the threaded section of the crank, this seems to be the case with many engines, by the time you've put a spinner between the prop and backplate that locknut is'nt going to have much to chew on. Why don't they make them a tad longer

I bought it off eBay a couple of years ago for £300. Comes with all tools, connections, etc. Also included is a dome spinner, which fits okay, even with the prop on. (The dome spinner is in my other drool-a Thunderbird with a Saito 170 3-cylinder engine)-see other thread and pic.
Only ran it today-once I figured the pump-sequence-its brilliant and powerful. Now, I'm assembling a SM services glow-driver to fit on the engine. (You only need to energise one of the two plugs/cylinder anyway) You could say it's got twin mags!

Now where's that Pegasus...

I was looking at the fuel tank and nose leg servo installation last night with Wayne. Whilst the supplied position and hardware is adequate I have found that steerable nose legs work better with a decent servo with a pull push wire rod system and a 11kg metal geared servo especially if you are flying of long grass. With this in mind the fuel tank would be in the way, the only other place the tank can go is below throttle servo tray, which means it has to removed and then screwed back in place with the tank installed below. If you are using a petrol engine the lower tank postion would not be an issue.

Installed my ZDZ 50 now.  Extended the bulk head by 32mm so that the prop driver would clear the cowl.

Shall contact Jenny and Geof at Justengines to make the exhaust for it.

Looking good,nice neat engine installation.How`s the rest of the build going? Mine`s still in the box,un-opened since I bought her at the Nats.A few more large boxes to get thru` before reaching this one!

Hi DB,

Just wondering about your choice of engine - I put a Zenoah 26 in my Cirrus & it flew like a rocket on full throttle - isn't the ZDZ 50 going to be a bit toooooooo powerful

One other point - with putting the heavier petrol engine up front, check the models CG before you put the rudder on. I say this because you may need to put some lead in the tail end. The Cirrus needed tail weight, so I cut out the fin post & put 3ozs of lead in the rear fuselage.

If the Robin flies half as good as the Cirrus you'll be a happy bunny. The Cirrus flew beautifully - 1 click of up elevator & 2 clicks of right rudder was the adjustment the model needed. Turns are really smooth, too. Lovely model

After chatting with Martin, we both feel that the 50 will do the job. Another reason is that I saw the ZDZ at a price I could not refuse. ::cc
I was with Martin when he flew his Cirrus and yes it flys very nice.  I am looking forward to flying this Robin.  She just feels and looks great.
Shall be putting all my time on the build after today.

Look forward to some more build info DB!

Update on build with pics.
I have put in a servo for the nose leg but will decide what to do later.
I shall be installing the RX and switch's in soon.  I am using 2.4Ghz Rx at rear of fuz just after the elevator servos plus batt Packer.

Radio Installation nearly complete.

Will start on the control surfaces next.

Decided to use Carbon control Horns on plane instead.  With this you do not have any upper surface backing plate off the control horns.

Your plane is coming on great, that's for suppling the great pictures up to date, I am in Australia and have just received my new Robin this week. I am putting a DL50 in it so should be similar to yours. I was wondering how you went with the front wheel set up, would be great if you could send some photos and details of how you did it, the instructions are a bit light on, it looks as if you need to do some drilling and knife work on it. Also what servos are you using. Should be a great flying

Very nice to hear from you.

I have completed the installation of the nose leg.  I shall take some pics and put them on soonest.  If you require any other pics or info, please just ask.  We are more than happy to assist.  At the moment, I think mine will come out at about 17 to 18 lbs.

thanks for the reply, I have just found out the DL50 needs 170mm from firewall to prop hub the instructions say 160mm, as I have not ordered this motor yet, do you think the 10mm is a problem, hope not. Also is there enough clearance for for a 22inch prop.

Take a look at the pics above were I show the Engine installation, you will see that I had to extend the firewall to achieve the correct distance for the propdriver.  I have about 3 to 4mm clearance for the backplate on the spinner.

I'd be interested to see the nose wheel assembly, because looking at photos (although no close ups :( ) it looks like the same or similar assembly as the Cirrus. If it is, you're going to have problems :( I'm having a new assembly made for the Cirrus, which might also do for the Robin, if you're interested.

Not got much time now - I'll explain the problems later - that work thing, again :( :( :(

How's the JE silencer build going? Always wanted a customer exhaust made up so watching with interest..

Hoping to make a dummy one together with pics then I can send off to Jenny and Geoff.

I had one done by them for my Ledgends Spitfire (40cc ZDZ). top notch.

very tempted by this one what scale is the robin incidentally 1/3rd???

It's close to 1/4 scale, the full size being 27' 4" (328-inches).
