Cheers, Yeah its good fun, better than watching tv in the evenings.   TBH I hve never minded building, its finishing that I hate because I take something that looks good bare and turn it Carp.

Good to see you back on it very tidy building there.  Pretty engine to but where is the 3rd cylinder for that 3rd plug  ;D

That engine is the same as my XYZ. I would reccomend you change the plugs for genuine NGK's. Also, don't run the Ign box on a 6vpack!

It's a thursty beast too, a 24oz tank is what I am using, I would have preferred a bigger one, so do it if you can.

I'm getting 5600 on a menz 22x10, this weekend I will try a 22x8 xoar as the 22x10 seems to be loading the engine somewhat.

Muds :)

Cool, I'm glad someone else has the engine.  6800 on a 22x10 doesnt seem the best though, how many runs.  I have actually got two in my posession, one is for a friend.  Its noticeable that one is far tighter than the other so they might just need some running in.

I cant decide whether to give the tight one or the slack one (still perfectly tight) to my mate though? Hope neil isnt watching.   :ev

I recon the tight one, although will need more running in might have better bedded parts?

Thread Here - http://www.rcmf.co.uk/4um/index.php/topic,86051.0.html

I've had about 3x24oz tanks through it on 50:1.

Another thing worth mentioning, I dismantled my engine and flushed it through with clean petrol, you would be amazed at the amount of swaf that appeared in the reservoir.

Where didi you nut the engine labelled as a FTL??

There's nothing stopping you now! Is therre still a model shop in Oxford for that bit of balsa you find you need in the week? Howes, I think it was called. I used to go in there as a kid and drool over the Tamiya buggies.

Howes Models are still around, though in Kidlington a few miles north of Oxford.  Looks like they've moved to a nearby industrial estate from their previous "High Street" location since I last visited - OK, the only time I visited them...

In Oxford itself is the Oxford Model Centre - a typical "old fashioned" model shop that looks a bit chaotic, but you can bet the owner can find whatever obscure thing Howes couldn't sell you!  If the technology works, click here  for a google streetview of it.
Just don't forget to put plenty of money in the parking meter if you park in the car park across the road - the owner (is he called Brian?) talks for England!  ;D

Remember, up is up, and down is down.  Except when inverted - when down is up, and up can be very expensive

I've been to Oxford model centre a few times and its a good old fasioned shop, as you say the guy talks for england, ive never met anyone who can talk so much, he's none stop!

Got a bit more done....

First I shaped and fitted the false trailing edge for the ailerons to fit too... A couple of the ribs were short so i packed them out.

I was worried about the butt jointing of the ribs to the spar, some of them seemed to break away too easy when knocked.  I decided to fillet between all the ribs with soft 1/8 balsa each side of the main spar.... This really improved the stiffness of the wing.

I also cut and fitted the 10mm ply undercart plates...

Filleted the undercart plate with triangle stock on the top side...

The wing is held on with four bolts, the plan calls for 3/4"sq solid hardwood blocks the depth of the wing as mounting points.  Instead I decided to make up four mounts out of 10mm ply as this offers a neater solution and also lighter.

And finally hardwood rails to accept the servo hatches/mounts...

And here is the finished wing structure ready for sheeting... I'm really happy at the way this turned out for my first ever built up wing (except for the first atempt which was terrible)

I've butt jointed some 1/8 balsa to form the wing skins, they are drying overnight, tomorrow evening I hope to skin the wing.
