Topic: Proper Cornish Slopers!

I've used that halfords stuff for making ballast tubes and a few repairs in the past.

That chopped mat is a pig to work with and not hugely strong when compared to other options, a mate sorts me proper woven glass fibre cloth when he can... that stuff is a real joy to work with compared to the chopped mat, it goes on well, is much neater and a lot stronger.

You can get it off the net real easy... just dont get it from a modelling supplier, they'll double the price for the privilege.

maybe, i'd like to see a few other repair options first

Think a surf shop might not be a bad option. I bought a kit a few years ago to repair one of my boards and the cloth was like silk. The board is till with me so maybe thats a good indication of it's strength.

Like Phil, i'm interested by any other options you may have be it repair methods or materials. It's starting to sound like I need to start a new thread . . . . "How should I repair my poorly girl?"

If you can get into the nose through the fuz to glass I'd tape the nose in position first. Use a wide tape, about 50mm and add a strip of seloptape down the middle, sticky to sticky. _-_ ish. Hope that makes sense. The idea here is that by taping from the outside it's much easier to get the nose held in the right position with enough strength to handle the fuz without upsetting the joint. The idea of the backing strip is to provide a smooth mould fro the glass you're going to pu on the inside. Asuming you can make this tape type mould (looked like a pretty straight break from memory). you can now glass the inside. For the best finish I'd brush on some epoxy all over the joint to start then add the glass cloth as a bandage around the inside pushing it into the epoxy. You can then add extra layers and epoxy to suit.

Defo use woven, chop strand is a b14tch to work with unless it's a boat.
If you can remove that woden nose cone and refit after through the fuz then do.
Do go talk to someone in the know to check it's ok to put epoxy on polyester. I couldn't tell for sure as the smell was weak in that one, but worth a check.

I'd recommend some of those latex gloves that you're bound to have a supply of.

Anybody got access to a decent airbrush (no i didn't leave the "H" off my spelling - it should read "airbrush" not "hairbrush")! I'm more than willing to pay "rent" for the use of it as i'm loathed to spend in excess of £150+ for a decent new one (dual action model including compressor cost).
 
I don't really relish the idea of having to use Halfords car spray paint on my baby!

Might get to build or repair something! If only there were somewhere we could meet up to discuss / work on projects. I don't think McDonalds at Fraddon is that accommodating which is a real shame.

True. Thing is, I think we all like it so much, 150 of those hits are from the "normal" WCS boys!

I can try possibly to make arrangements for some time. Evenings are out at the moment, however I might be able to open when there is a bad weekend, however there with be a small cost involved.

finally got a new mb should be ready for the week end tryed to get some pictures up but don't no how lets hope this one don't bite

and use something more robust for holding the aileron servos in. don't know what you used before, but it didn't put up a fight

Theres some cracking mouldy build threads around, best way to fix wing servos etc.

Keep an eye on the amount of throw you have on the tail too, start in the safe zone then work up. Or just use what phil and dan have been using with the same cofg.

Don't think it'll be strong enough winds this weekend to fly it (sub 10mph for Sat and Sun), so take your time my man! I know how it feels having to wait to fly a new model. I'm getting a new model either tomorrow or Thursday too  ::cc but she won't see the slopes until I'm comfortable there's a good enough wind to fly her in, and that she's in a fit state to fly.

will defiantly spend no rushed time building it
fitting the last servos i wrapped electrical tape tight round the servo then scratched both surfaces then super glued then around some  edges put some rubberised glue in case the super glue snapped i would have thought that would have been adequate i don't think the build quality was the issue

no, just saying they came out too easy, the rubber glue didn't grip the wing skin at all, the super glue only left a tiny amount of tape left stuck.

defo epoxy and micro balloons for fittings the wing servos... servos rapped in tape first of cause 

heat shrink is also meant to work well.

Already had my eye on it Phil (currently watching 12 items on ebay - no I won't be buying them all!!)

That Alula is probably one of the only things that may fly this weekend! Very sunny, but absolutely no wind.
 

The original Bee's a great wing, buy one and you wont be dissapointed! Its much more agile than the bevo. Just not as fast.
