I did have one of the first JU87's, when I found out there was a bigger one on the way, the smaller one was sold still in its box. I should have gone for the 'B' with the slightly bigger cowl. I cant lose the engine. I have gone with a Saito 1.80, I was going to use the Saito FG36, I dont think it will need any more power than the 1.80 even with a bomb and cannons fitted. The build, all going together fairly well.

Some one made a mistake (Wilson), I should have had the 'B' version. Just realised it is the 'D' version, too late now. The main difference with the the 'B' is the bigger cowl.

great plane :)

thank you for uploading the photos !!

i even dont know what to do :

buying the B-version or the D-version...

i want to use the SAITO FG-36 engine.... will there be enough place so that the FG-36 will fit in the D-version ?!

greetings from germany ,

daniel

Space is not a problem, the FG36 will fit nicely, you would have a bit more of the head sticking out plus the carb will have to set back into the fire wall as the distance from prop driver to the fire wall is 157mm.

ok :)

so the D-version would fit to the FG-36....

mmhh...do you know if the 37mm cannons are available ?? i havent read anything about them....

furthermore : isnt it possible to "change" between the cowlings of the D and the B - versions ???
that means : if you own a D-version, and use a HUGHE engine, why not using on the D-version a B-version-cowling ?!

I know YT have some cannons, I am looking to fit the cannons on mine plus a central bomb. I will try and position the FG36 on the Stuka for you and take some photos.

They cowls should be inter-changeable, there other main differences, canopy and tailplane struts

The build is moving on the wings are glued, servos in, hinges in. The ailerons and flaps will be secured later as they stand a chance of getting knocked. The Saito 1.80 is in position, the silencer lays inside the cowl nicely.

I had a look at how the elevator was going to be controlled, as the tailplane sits high, I could see the control loop wire was going to rub the fuselage. A quick look at the manual and section 51 shows the guides to stop the rubbing. Guess what mine has not got any. The next problem was how to get them in place. I ended up drilling the fin post (will be filled and painted later, the rudder will cover this) in line with where the guides have to go. Using a piece of sharpened piano wire (the former is about 12" down the fus) of the same diameter as the guides (used from my stock) I drilled the former which is in front of where the tailplane is located. The guide was then position and glued in place by running some glue down a piece of wire as you cant get in the fus with a glue bottle. All this is done from the rudder servo hatch which is under the tailplane.

great work...go on !! please !!

furthermore :  are you happy with the FG-36 ??

i for myself am looking for a good running 4-stroke GASOLINE engine... but i just found that there is only the :

ROTO 35

and the

SAITO FG-36

are there any other 4-stroke-gasoline engines available ???

The FG36 is a fantastic engine, well impressed, very smooth good throttle response and quite quiet and one major factor, the silencer is small in comparison to a similar sized two stroke.

and i guess there is not so much adhesive-exhaust-dirt on the plane :) unlike the 2-stroke-engines does.

There is oil as you have to use 20:1 oil petrol mix, where the two stroke use 40:1

oh...

i just knew the nitro engines, and that in this case, the plane was covered with the oil dirt.... i just thought this wouldnt be so excessive by using a petrol-engine...

They are not as bad as glow engines, however the FG36 does put out a bit more oil than a petrol two stroke.

Tailplane fitted and the closed loop installed, when you fit the tailplane make sure you put the closed loop system in first otherwise you have to cut out large hole to get the closed loop in that will remain visible. The hole can be cut where the tailplane fits so when you glue it in place the hole is covered. And don't forget to fit the closed loop wire first otherwise it wont be easy to get them in afterwards.

thank you very much :)

but isnt that described in the "building-manual" ??

it would be a pitty if it wouldnt....so a noob like me could make many mistakes :(

but i am very glad that there are profis like you who can help me by telling me these specific details .

i just know the "old" building-manual, are there many differences to the ne one ???

greetings from germany,

daniel :)

The manual is pretty good, however when I am putting a plane together I look for areas that might cause problem or ideas that might help.
It is nice to see the factory listens. I have had a moan in the past about the blocks of ply (on other aircraft) that have to be glued inside the fus for the tail wheel support. There is a seam where the two fus halves join, you could not get the stock piece of wood to sit flat. They now supply a shaped piece of would to straddle the seam, nice one.

furthermore i have a question :

what size and fabricate would you take for a 3-Blade-Propeller ???

Offline kinverflyer wrote Re: JU87 Stuka new for 2009 on March 06, 2009, 14:17:44 PM
There is a general rule of thumb, if you know the two bladed prop size, then go down one size on the pitch and one size on the diameter. For example a two blade 16" x 8" would be a three  blade 15" x 7"

look at the graupner range of three bladers,   you wont get near the scale size, owing to the gearing of the full size engine,

thank you :)

i knew the ju-87 very well, my grandfather flew that one , the G-version " kanonenvogel" , at the eastern front in the staffel of rudel.

i just wanted to know which 3-blade prop. would fit nicely in comparison with the FG-36.

greetings ,
daniel

I was after one for the previous Stuka. I tracked down a company in the USA that manufactured a turbine siren that was awesome. However it was out of production and no matter how much begging they where not going to manufacture any more.

Cold and windy so another day building, got the fus finished and most of the wing.
The only area I have deviated from the instructions today, is the Bowden cable for the flaps. The in-board flap is linked to the main flap by a piece of Bowden cable (flexible wire). This moves the flap OK but when you apply pressure (simulating air force) the in-board flap can move more 30 degrees. To prevent this I replaced the cable with a piece of solid wire. It took a few attempts to get the angle in the wire right, once sorted it worked nicely and the flap is rigid.
