Are you sure one foot per minute is correct?

Whilst the maths holds up ie it would be a good model, the truth is 1ft per second!!  :D

At a 15mph glide speed that would be about 22:1 glide ratio I think on the basis there's 5280 ft in a mile.

That's better than a paragliders typical 12:1 as you might expect but a lot lower than a full size Nimbus which would be about 60:1.

It is of course Mr Reynolds fault...

Cheers Phil.

That pylon race start photo looks like it's going to be a fairly dull race...

Try to stay in the middle of the air. Do not go near the edges of it.
Flying is more difficult there.

The wind is forecast to go light on Friday, I hope to fly my AVA on Minchinhampton Common in the afternoon. The wind is forecast to go westerly and strengthen later in the afternoon

I am up for local pylon racing too. I don't have the time for driving around the country either.
Need to join scsa - will send form in for you Phil.
Also need to get flying again, feels like ages ago.
Hope all are well.
Ben

Minchinhampton was good this afternoon, the wind was light with plenty of lift

It looks Like Haresfield today - 'winter drawers on'

All of the brick flyers who mock the fridge for preferring calm days to windy ones, where were you today?
The lonely figure on the hill at Haresfield flying a Wildthing was THE FRIDGE!!
Mock no more you fearful lot.... You know who you are.

Well done Phil for sticking out that freezing cold wind and the snow flurries. My Ferret is still up the tree, the shot from the catapult was about two feet short of the branch several times with the catapult at full stretch. I had a quick flight too, but was soon driven away when the heavy snow came blowing up Haresfield hill.

I like to fly with both feet on the ground.

Answered your own question...

Yep! One of the things I enjoy doing most is to slope soaring in big winds. The thing I enjoy least is slope soaring in sub zero conditions. The latter influenced my decision far more than the former. No contest!

Does that mean that the fridge being the fridge enjoys the cold, but endures the wind?  :''

The wind is light and on Lesley, but it is obscurred by mist.
I will try my Weasel and fly my Star if visibility improves

I took my AVA to Lesley in the afternoon and failed to find lift, there was enough slope lift to stay airbourne, but the thermals were so weak I only reached 90ft

I looked out of the window to see if it was even worth a quick walk to fly my electric passer on the local field, and even the smoke from chimneys was staying horizontal (with no wind), so I didn't bother.

A very poor afternoon on Minchinhampton, overcast with drizzle but only a light breeze and not cold.
Peter's Mustang had retract trouble and the motor fell off his Yak
The low cloud made it hard to see my Supra

So, you think a good day at work is better than a bad day's flying.

If it means I can buy more toys hangar queens that can only fly on good days, yes!

Who am I trying to kid. A bad (weather) day on the slopes is better than a day in front of a computer screen.

Bad weather day, yes.

Bad lift day, no.

When your time is nearly up, what thought will go though yor head; will it be 'I wish I'd spent more time in the office'?
