Hey Allen, both Rob & Phil got their new scalies in the air on Sunday. :af

You bought a whole new meaning to hangar rash with your halfpipe, & nice to see the rash start disappearing after flying it. ;D

I am not absolutely sure to be honest. I know Phils is a Ventus, & think Robs might be as well, but different make. I think they are about 2.5 metre, but flew great.

Allen had put spots on the underside of his halfpipe, but they were dropping off during flight. lol

Well, I went by Thurnham late morning, and had a short session.

One chap already there, struggling to fly a "zagi" which was actually a FW Reflex with power. He said he was having trouble getting out in the strong wind and was using power most of the time.

I flew the Windrider Fox for a while but eventually I was forced to use power a fair bit of the time too and then ultimately full power to stand still into the biggest gusts, no penetration left in the still increasing wind, which was also looking to try to fold it's wings, so changed to my ballasted FW Slipstream, which flew very well (as usual).

The user formerly know as Bravedan........... Well if Prince can do it....................

Thought I would buy myself a scale today

wanted a 3m so I could fly it when ever I liked
wanted a fully molded not foam veneer
wanted a four servo wing with flaps so I could land anywhere
So I bought a Bauldis 3m Ventus 2c

N I C E !  Where did you get it?  I mean do you have it or is it on a six month waiting list from Baudis?  Their stuff is such high quality.  And I see you even get a Steven with it, does he launch it for you?

Great news Allen.  I looked on the South Coast Sailplanes site, that's a good price for a Baudis product, anything Baudis is normally so expensive.  I'm actually quite excited to see it - sad I know! - but anything Baudis is a bit of an event.

We'll have to meet on the South Downs some time and I'll bring my old Pat Teakle asw17.

I stopped by Thurnham today during my lunch break.  The conditions were quite remarkable, unique even. (In terms of being the worst lift I think I have ever had at Thurnham!)  The wind was 25-30, but the lift was amazingly weak, with lots of turbulence and strong sink.  Just not enjoyable at all.  Yet somehow I still kind of enjoyed it!  You know ... at least I got outdoors, had a bit of a chat, resorted to flying my EDF jet (which I know is lowering the tone of a slope soaring site, but quite good fun for a change, and it handled the conditions well).

Hi Guy's.
I maiden ed the Gondor yesterday and I am over the moon, it flew so well. Alan T handled the takeoff and trim phase while I launched, then I took over. I was loving it so much I got a bit cocky with the loops close to the ground, then a forced landing down wind where I managed to knock a wing tip off. Easy fix.
Thanks to Alan T for the test fly, spot on as always, he gives me such confidence in my models and flying, brilliant Mate.

Best Regards
Bob.

Nice one Bob, it looks a bit like a Gnot (or was it called a Gnat?) from the early 90s. Good to hear the maiden ent well.

well you changed your tune Allen...i seem to remember you saying not too long ago that scale models aren't any good at anything but looks :'' & now you've gone & got one. ???

Rob & i both maiden our scale models...i think Rob's is a ASW...he got second hand from Ashford model shop...both of ours are 2.6m
Hey Ian...where are these photos of Dave Cox' 5m job with Rob's & mine got to?? Have you had an email from him recently?

Well technically this is not Scale as it has an SD3021 foil and Flaps
And neither was my Ash 26 with the wings of an Alpine and an over sized elevator, but then I guess none of them are really scale
and maybe I only bought it for looks  ;)  ;D

Hi Phil,

I don`t have Dave Cox`s email address, so I am not sure about the photo`s. Maybe the other Dave took some as well, & I will email him in a bit & ask. I know he has video footage of Rob maidening his new model.

I did not think scale soaring was Allens type of thing either, & think he`s going to de disapointed with the Ventus as an F3F model. ;D

 :xx for the weekend.

Hey Allen...if you back pedal any further you'll be in the carpark  ;D I agree though...some are more scale than others.
I've emailed Rob to find where these photos have got to...he's probably working for the next two weeks so we'll have to wait.

It was good of Matt to decline the invite & not include having his pride & joy scale model in this photo opportunity. I think that he may not have wanted to detract attention from the other 3 models. ;D

The Gondor is gnot much like the Gnot but the Gnot looks interesting.
I built the Gondor's wing like a fully ballasted wing (heavy), maybe I should make a light one as well, I'm good at heavy, must master light.
Regards
Bob.

Nooooooo!

I`ve tried texting you Phil, to let you know that I have been up to the LM car park, but it looks like its going to be too misty to fly.

I bumped into a couple of the LGRA fellas, & they have done likewise, & I also bumped into Dave on the way back.

Its deceiving, as there is nice big areas of blue sky, & the wind is more of a S-SW to, as opposed to West as forecast.

I guess its going to be ideal for your flat field flying this weekend.

Ventus arrived today

Lovely  :af

But I have never seen a 3m model with such narrow wings they are TINY!!
but I love the way the ailerons are split into three with pins connecting them so they all move, looks great with the flaps too, looks like a four servo wing  :)

Sounds great ... but you might need to be careful not to tip-stall it ...

So how many servos does it take, is it 6?  I guess they need to be something pretty small like MKS DS6100 or something.

yeah 6 tiddlers, but the ailerons are very thin even though they are 3/4 of the wing I doubt they will take much load and the elevator servo sits in the tail so have to be tiny too

I have 4 HS65s for the wings
1 HS56 for the elevator and a good old HS81 for the rudder as it's the only servo in the canopy
just need to decide on a battery  $%&

I'm just not sure a HS56 is enough for the elevator?  One day you'll do a big screaming dive and you'll go to pull up at the bottom and it won't happen ... I guess you have no way to fit a HS65 in there?  Personally that's the absolute minimum I'd go for.  But apologies if I'm just being an interfering sod...
