That could nearly have been six, Simon.

I bought a 1/5th scale Discus on ebay last week but when I got to Swindon to collect it, it had shrunk to 1/6th scale!!! Obviously I didn't complete the purchase even though the guy dropped the price.
Nice as he was, he hadn't thought to put a tape measure across the wings and when I measured it he then realised the span was 20 inches adrift and the fuz was a bit short!

However, all was not lost as he gave me a 6ft span Piper Cub that he didn't want, so I'm going to put a decent brushless motor in it, rig up a towing attachment and then we can do some aerotows when the wind drops off.

I mentioned this to you and Paul just the other day suggesting that we use my Multiplex Gemini, but as the Cub has seen better days and I got it for free, any reasonable pilot could have a go at being the tug pilot as well as being towed . . . or should that be tugged?, so I'll keep the Gemini for practicing 3D.

He also directed me to Clench Common, a few miles south of Marlborough where I was able to get some time in on the easterly trough (also a south slope), although I nearly died climbing up to the top. It was worth it though, as it was so quiet with none of the constant background noise that we get in the south east!

Finally, as of today I have joined you guys in the 'Mouldie Brigade!  Smiley

I am now the proud owner of a 2.5m Czech Samba Models 'Kobra'. It's in good condition and is complete and ready to fly - all I've got to do is program the Tx and it will soon take to the skies. I know it's a few years old but as I'm not going to be entering F3F comps, I'm not too worried.

Here's a link to a picture of one - it's not mine, the one I have is white and blue.

All I need now is someone to launch it for me as the first few seconds on the sticks on a new model are always quite interesting!

ooh! nice!

ooh! nice!

Thanks Steve.

Mine looks even better than the one in the photo. The blue undersides of the wing and tailplane fade over the leading edges into the white upper surface, white fuz and blue rudder.

Just need the right day and we're away!

Oh T-Tail Kobra.
Samba actually make a very high quality mould for there models, so providing its never been smashed and repaired and the c/g is in the right place it will just fly straight.

I had a full carbon pike superior in 2006/7 and that flew superb.
Wasnt a slope model at all was a F3J ship, but the thermalling side of things was really nice, with no bad habits at all.
I cant fault sambas build quality, as good a muller models with perfect fit of all sub parts.

The only down side of the Pike Superior was the size of the joiners for the tips being a 3 piece wing.
They were only 1/4" solid carbon.
Broken one once on a dodgy landing into our field and knocked a branch.
I guess that they are strong in the updown direction, and easily broken in the foraft to provide some protection to the panel.

Well done Eric, you'll enjoy it.

This is John hoping for some decent weather so he can go and fly his ceres.

BTW - I'm confused, I had already counted you as one of the Discii - what happened to the one you bought at Wings and Wheels?

Thanks for your comments John - I'm looking forward to getting it into the air asap. Interesting to hear of your previous experiences with the Samba produced Pike. On the Samba site it shows that the Kobra was designed in 1997, but hey that's a youngster as my one of my three Phase 6 Pros is about 30 years old and that in my opinion is one of the best models out there for slope aerobatics.

Yes, all the mouldings are excellent and the very beefy fuz is in perfect condition. The two piece wings which have a plug and socket arrangement for the servos, are linked by a very substantial rectangular section steel joiner and have just minor scuffs which I wil deal with shortly. The model seems to have had an uneventful life so far with no evidence of any hasty arrivals.  I'll just give the nose cone a re-spray to complete its spring clean. There are two marks for the CG range and as it was last flown on Sunday I've no worries about getting it airborne.

No Steve, I'm not going to tell you what I paid for it apart from saying it was a very good deal!

Yes, I do have a Discus and I really must get round to flying it as it will soon be a year since I bought it. I'm just in the process of putting some nicer servo covers on the wings and replacing one of the aileron servos, so it should be making an appearance soon.

Col, thanks for enlightening Steve with the problems of trying to mix a marriage and model flying - I won't say modelling otherwise you'll be going off on another tangent!  Wink

Simon, I'm not far short of half a century if I include the unbuilt kits in the roof! I have a number of interesting untouched vintage kits which I will most probably sell on to fund my next purchase.

Eric

Here's a pic from Bopeep yesterday, I had a quick fly on the way home from a work mtg.  Isn't it great that it's staying light longer?  But the northerly winds are still bitter, I'm about done with them.

Mine arrived yesterday.  I popped-in a 2GB card that I'd been using on another camera.  Looks like I'll get around 30 mins or so video on that card.  The instructions require a bit of "interpreting" but I've managed to reset the date on it (thanks to another website!) and have a quick play.  Very impressive for the price;  £7.49 for mine, including delivery!

Cheers Si.  Yeah I sorted the problem. I just had to go onto the tools section of Windows Movie Maker and tick all the filter options, I think it was the 'ffdshow' option that was the trouble.

East for Warden. I wouldnt take the 4.5m Ventus though Paul. the landing area is only about 3m square. lots of nice prickly bushes to dump a WT into though.
PLus side, is because its off a vertical cliff, you dont get any wind in your face. weird, but cool!! Smiley
