Test flew 2 of the planes today No problems at all with air frames, A little bit of fine tuning to do, Small amount of down thrust needed in both. Balance was set at 60mm and that gave a great glide path.
The ESC 60 amp Wasps ,cut out on both planes a couple of times in each flight. This could have been too much current or over temp as they were quite warm on landing. No cooling air in these models. So i will try some 80amp controllers.

Hey Paul - why the downthrust?

With plane trimmed for a perfect glide on full power they both climb, not by much I have just put 1/64 ply behind top mount of engine. Not bad for an own design and both planes flew the same. :)
The good news Found an old ammeter that could be connected inline, it is only graduated up to 40 amps, with the motor on full power and looking where the needle rested the motor was pulling over 50 amps.
So I am now looking for a decent 80amp controller to try.

Hey Paul

In pylon there's no need to worry about how they do anything other than fly on full throttle. Ideally you want your motor pointing completely where you want to go and nowhere else! If there's a slight climb on full power, a very minor incidence/ trim adjustment will carry less of a speed penalty.

I'm sure there are other schools of thought - I'm just passing on the advice I received from a very sage old pylon racer (The Owd on here).

Zim is correct on this one, first port of call is to accertain the wing incedence is correct.
if the wing incedence is corrected by the thrust of the engine you effectivlly have a plane flying with the nose slightlly higher than the tail, its not usually noticible by eye unless something is drasticlly out, shell fly fine but the drag will increase and slower airspeed
There will always be some difference in trim from slow speed to high speed, so as zims said for racing trim for high speed rather than mid, there will be a difference but not stupidlly different
My f5d planes were trimmed for flat out but power off i just held in the trim for the return to terra firma when power was off

ive just gone through the same thing with one of mine, couldnt work it out as the others had flown with no prob, transpired i had made a mistake when i transfered my template to the wood.
Checking incedence ive always found a pain with the various test equipment in setting up

Have a look at the pic below on how to check your wing incedence being zero a simple way, its not the most accuate or scientific way but it does work.
Accept the tailplane as being zero as this is the item that you cant remove or alter as its glued down, place a straight edge underneath the tailplane so it makes contact underneath, use something a little flexible.
now meausure from the rulers edge to the middle of the leading edge, the measurment should be the same as for the trailing edge (the rg series airfoils datum line is the middle of trailing/leading edge)
From this new datum line the bulk head can be checked to see if it is 90 deg......this method wont detect a fraction of a mm, it checks the obvious and a good guide for confimation.

if youre happy the wing incedence is zero to the tail, then you can tackle the motor incedence

if youre happy with all of that and on a turn she drasticlly increases height the change your 60mm c of g and set it at 50mm and note the difference, then you can fine tune with wing tip weight and if its a 2 servo wing you can also experiment with aileron differential

If ive got a problem with something i tend to try the extreme in the opposite direction, one machine did nose up a lot on the turn, did the usual checks, i took the c of g the to the opposite end of the scale and it did the opposite in flight, quick confimation that the area i was altering was at least in the right direction, then it was a case of backing of till i got the best i could get then looked at other areas,
unfortuanatlly no 2 planes seem to be the same......the joys of pylon

hope that helps a little

The wasp speed contoller steve uses i dont think hes had any probs with his and i havent with mine, i set the timing to hard and have a couple of discreet holes for venting

Just to prove i am doing it! Just gotta fit some servos. Bizzarely built with a longer nose but prop in exact same position as the c2000 variant but needs the pack on the cg....... "Which was nice" (true fastshow spirit)

Try again!

Yes Steve it's our own design model with a longer nose that has made the prop position the same as the ic version and bizarely balances with the pack middle on the cg.

Here's my latest e2k plane  :af

Its built from the production version of the Wasp kit from Cloud

Very many thanks got to Ron, The Crazy Frogs Dad, who very kindly built and covered it for me  :af

This is why it looks straight and square, and not like one of Nora Batty's stockings  ::)
