Just started the build this week.

Downloaded the plans from the e2k website and ordered three pairs of wings from cloud models and very nice they are too...  they come with all the bits like leading and trailing edges, servo hatches and dowels, and tips too. Even have a nifty template for installing the dowel and cutting the servo bays too.

So, let's get the wings prepared.... you can see here the three wings in different stages of installing the aileron wing stiffeners and marking out for the servo bays..

lower wing has the cutouts sized 10" BY 3/8" and middel wing has the pva stiffeners glued in.

The top wing show the marking out, the line spanwise lines up with the servo wiring cut out that is already cut as part of the manufacturing process.

..... here's the template mentioned earlier....  used to line up the dowels to take the servo hatches... I have sharpened and 10mm brass pipe and then hand cut the holes thru' the veneer and into the foam...

notice too the cnc slots cut in to help with aligning the hatch over the line drawn previously

and to bring this up to date ..... centre trailing edges attached... dowels pva'ed in and the veneer cut out with a stanley... :af

the servo hatches are 3mm thick, you get 3mm spacers which are used to ensure the dowels are sunk 3mm below the surface....

the ailerons are 10" and set 4" from the wing tips...  :af

i'll be using hitec hs85mg on elevator and an hs81 on each aileron...

could build with just one aileron but we want to take part in mayhem sessions where twinkle rolls will be order for the day... :) :) :)

looks very similar to something that we used to knock up at the old scunthorpe club a few years ago. we used to hang an old mds 28 on the front and a lenght of video tape on the back and chase each other round the sky  :ev :ev :ev

Stuey, something for concideration, we tried a battery hatch underneath, to save removing the wing on battery changes, it worked but was a real pain so we missed it off on the plans. so we kept to wing removal for battry removal

I did find if you need to change the s/c it was impossible to get access to the s/c/motor plugs and you have to remove the motor to get access to the plugs.
solution i found that works is to add a small hatch on the top deck 1"x2" plugs can be accesed without removing the motor

id guess not important for fun flying, but a real pain if youre racing and have ltd time to do a change over

It's not a super duper story!

Hey Stuey - I'll be in touch soon about that day mate - tbh I think we've been knackered on the weather all the way through Jan and Feb anyway - we'll get it done soon though!

Oh and another thought - seeing as I STILL haven't got around to building a Roo, I decided to put my Irvine 39 in something else for now. Oh yes, oh yes, oh yes. It's in a Club 2000 airframe and lawks does it shift! Give it a try!

more progress this evening....

first up is to glue in the servo bearers to the wing servo hatches... i nearly forgot they were handed and nearly made six right hand versions...  ;D ;D ;D ;D

....to remove the foam i used the old method of bending a piece of wire, heating it with a blowtorch and melting out the section to accommodate the servo...

in this picture you can see the slot for the servo wiring, it's just the right size to feed the wire with the plug on the end all the way to the centre, no problems.... and the servo lead is long enough to exit the middle without an exension... :af :af

..... an easier evening tonight. got some heli flying in whilst the wind was low and the sun was out.....

every planks needs a box..... and every box needs sides, 6 required out of 3mm liteply... cut with the old jigsaw and fettled with plane and sandpaper... tomorrow i will mostly be cutting out the formers..... you can see the paper templates for them, As they are all the same width i will cut long strips of liteply in that width and then cut off each former to height as required...

Steve, which two sides are yours eh.. ::) ::)

I assembled the fus by gluing each former to one side and adding the triangle balsa braces. Here you can see the motor mount, wing tongue receptacle and the rear former in place. they are squared up and glued in at 90 degrees. then the other side is added as can be seen in the upper part of this photo...

Sport flying is not the same as pylon. Before you start to worry about your esc overheating, recognise first that if you're quick, it only needs to work for around 75-80 seconds (maybe plus 10 for a spin up before launch) and when you're starting out, 120 seconds.

I'm wondering if when folks are sport flying them, they're getting the cut-out after ragging them for a fair while?

good point Zim. guess additional cooling holes will create drag for racing but may not be needed. and not so important for sport flyers which can have as many holes as are needed for longer burns...!
