Thanks guys, I tried to post a few times yesterday, but sitting for too long was too painful, so I gave up each time, things seem a bit better today  ::cc

The subwing sheeted and painted with WBC (brushed on). The struts have been painted and fitted, I made the outer rib removable for servicing in future. The wheels use the same greeen paint applied over the tex with a rag while turming the wheel.

Next onto the covering, starting with th eunderside of the fus, using GTM fabric and dope for the first time is pretty daunting....

Then the bottom wing. For this and the upper wing the panels of fabric must be cut and stitched together...

If I can get it finished for then, no worries. I have stripped my trailer as well, completly stripped it of paint and have had some steel angle and supports made up for the doors, this last winter was not kind to it. So I need to fund some new ply and get it painted and fitted in order to transport it there, I was planning to do that after work this week but obviously had a minor setback. Still I'm hopefull  :)

One of the unavoidable tasks I face next is the writing on the side of the fus. Now amongst most other things this is not my 'bag'. I ponder how to transfer the writing. At the moment I'm leaning torward carbon paper under the plan and drawing through to give me a line to paint to, anyone got a better idea? I'm a bit worried about smudging ink all over the fus  :-\

Which writing Mud, if you mean the weight table that can be sorted with masks, as can anything else really. If not go with the carbon paper and free hand it.

people keep saying masks... what are they, where they from and how do they work... i use ffreehand which is poor at the best of times..

This is what I gotta do, now as it says at the bottom of each of my posts, there was a was on, and I don't think the writing would be as neatly done as on the plan. I just wondered if many people use the carbon paper method for this sorta thing much

PS. I'd like to know what people really think so far, not so good comments as well (constructive of course ;))

Looks like you need some CNC low tack vinyl paint masks...................

These are from a translucent low tack masking film with a carrier paper.......you peel off to reveal the 'sticky' side.....position the mask where required, rub down than remove the carrier paper. These are GREAT for smooth surfaces, but going over a textured fabric, you'll have to treat them slightly differently to get good results.

I'd suggest applying a coat of 2 of dope over the mask to seal the edges 1st.......if you don't do this and go straight on with the paint, chances are some will creep under the edge due to the weave of the fabric (this doesn't happen on a smooth surface as there is nowhere for it to creep) If you apply dope 1st, even if it does creep, as it dries clear, you'll not see it........a bit of experimentation may be needed.

Nigel @ Flightline Graphics (here on this forum) is currently doing a full set of custom masks for the 1/4 Spit for me........he sent me some samples last week and they are superb......he's well worth talking to as he knows his stuff and will custom cut whatever you want.

The whole thing is a pile of poo Mudders, I have been kind upto now  ;D  ;D  ;D  ;D

If you can get yourself a fine brush, with a steady hand it's possible to hand paint on the markings as they would have been hand painted originally if they look perfect they will look wrong  :af

The top wing is finished, ailerons painted up and a few scale fittings added below.

I had a go at the carbon paper method, it seems to have worked out ok, now just a bit of time and patience to go over it with paint.
