Well Stuart, that is where u are wrong, there will be oil contamination to worry about....from the Ic powered racer in the lead!!!!LOL

I wonder why I didn't think of that?

Hi all,

Alright my jasper/wasp (all part cut out the wasp kit) is now almost together and will be ready to glass it before the weekend I hope. Putting it together went fine but I'm facing a bit of challenge with the hinge for the wing.

I'm going to repeat myself but this plane is beautiful, having done the jasper out of the wasp part I think that if you count the amount of time taken in duplicating the wasp part it will almost be cheaper to get the whole kit instead of doing that myself. Even that said I'm glad to have done a jasper fuse because I'm still learning the building tricks

I was wondering if any of you might be able to post pix of how you made yours to be gap free hinge for the aileron. Even at £20 the wing I'll be gutted if I screw them up.

I have read through this article that explain how to do it.
http://www.nmpra.org/articles/DNskinhinges.htm

The other options I see are:
1) simply seller tape them after glassing
2) use small plastic hinge (yeah using this technic I've made a mess before) bought from any HS

Many thanks

Hey mate

Have you considered a goop hinge? On my as yet unflown glass wing I used conventional hinges and am not 100% happy with them. Having now done some goop (or silicone) hinges on another project and finally learned how to do this type of hinging right  ::) I think it is a great method and would work well on this kind of model.

That's a brilliant idea Zim, I have not thought of silicon.
Funny that give me no excuse not to fix the silicon seal around the bath   $%&

I know why it take so long to put shelf up now after being asked to do it for month. We man don't want to do it because it's boring diy  ;)

If I don't ask I won't know :-)

Could Cloud Models produce a V-tail version of the wasp?

I never build a v-tail one and I like to start from something that work. For setting up of the v-tail Do you guy's program only elevator or elevator/rudder. The last one sound odd maybe but I thought that if I used the v-tail to combine elevator plus rudder and also use at least 1 aileron the model will almost have 4 channel back. This crazy idea coming from the fact that I really quickly started to fly 4 channel without learning the conventional way.

I saw that some of you have only 1 ailerons can someone explain a bit further the advantage of such setting. I guess that as we only turn left the right aileron sould be the one in place and this will make the plane more gentle on the aileron.

Many thanks

Putting a V tail on the Wasp shouldn't be too difficult, although I would be tempted to increase the tail area by approx 10%.

The most important aspect is to get the incidence right and this could be easily achieved with the use of an incidence gauge.

An angle of 100 degrees and set up as an elevator only is about where the rest of the models are.

I have seen one aileron used on both sides of different models, I don't know too much about the theory but I do know that it is easier and quicker to build. I have flown with one aileron and not really noticed any difference until I try aerobatics and then the rolls become a bit barrelly.

Hope this helps.

Thanks Stu,

This few tips on the tail design they will become usefull soon has the balsa arrive. For the incidence of the tail will it be safe to start with 0 degree incidence on the v-tail?

Lucky enough I've just received an incidence gauge for my birthday :-)
