for those who might be interested......

building from a Arizona plan brought from fighteraces........the plan is ok...but not one of the best i've built from....

problem is should have started out with a more scale plan.....maybe built one of the Glenn Torrance 1/4 scale D.VIII......anyway stuck with this now.....

i have changed quite a few things so far as  the plan lacks detail......using a mixture of windsock datafile 25, and a 1/2 scale build on rcuniverse, a great guy on there called Tom is building an increditable model...probably the best i've seen.....

here is the build so far:

Now that is looking good  :af  shame the kit's not upto much but it looks like you are overcoming it extremely well.

The Arizona plans seem to vary to a great degree in the level of detail as they aren't all designed by the same person. Some are fairly basic, leaving much to the builder to use his own techniques, while others are very detailed.

scaleman pls keep notes of things missing or wrong on the plans. I am working with jaime to redo a lot of his plans to make them better and up to date. trying to raise the quality of the designs and redraw them to as close to my standards as possible

I told Jaime to send me the drawings he sending tonight after dinner. he says theres 2 versions he has but the ones he uses are from dave johnson. he says they scale masters winner but are sparse. so if thats the version you have will be easier. either way just keep me informed as im gonna detail them up good

Hi Dave, nice build (as usual :af)

Can you tell me how you made the fuel gauge cover? It's something I have to tackle soon.

Cheers

hi Mud,

thanks :af

the cover was made in 2 parts.....i bent some thin 1/64" ply around a former to get the shape.....damping it first and allowing to dry....litho plate was then cynoed to this...the cone was made from model lab board turned first, then adding a straight section the under side...filling the gap between the 2 parts with filler.....the ply part was glued to the model lab board and then sanded to suit...

the block will be hacked away on the inside to reduce the weight.....hope that helps?

cheers

dave

I see cheers Dave. I have a solid chunk of plastic I was going to turn and use as a plug, but I was not sure what to mould around it, probably fiberglass or something, and then make a fiberglass mould from the inner surface of that..if ya see what I mean :D. The D.VI gauge sits 50/50 in relation to the turtle deck, and the top cover you have created on yours is inverted and sits infront of the gauge, so the pilot sort of looks down to it.

cool im using corel draw but can take all above mentioned too. I found achims site tonight on the aero-builders forum wished I had his drawings be nice lol but I can see the framework so will kinda be doing like I did on my bristol. make it look as close to accurate framing as possible. I am curious did the FS have tubing frame? or is that just something the replica guys doing

had to open up the engine hole slighty by 1.5mm all around just to give a little extra space around the laser...but i don't think anyone will notice....

That's it, plane ruined......... scrap it  ;D
