hi all

been leaving the restart of the 1/3 scale cowl thread till i had new news, well just got ack from dereks w/shop the pattern has been passed off to use and i have ordered, and paid for, material for the first batch of 10 i will be back to him on or about the 6th april so if you would like one let me know, the final cost is as yet not finalised due to them not actually made yet somewhere around £25 is the estimate, now we can have them with a nice big hole in the front as for Pups etc, small hole as in Fokkers what i need is the size hole you would like, or no hole at all..AND we can have them cut to the length to suit your application upto 170mm . now also whilst there i have ordered some exhaust silencer box halves for samples, these are roughly 75mm dia x 80mm long and are basically a tin with no lid spun from 1mm steel the idea is that you can use 1 with an end cap welded on, also ordered, to make silencers for small petrols or two welded together for bigger ones wotcha think  :af

Have you started it yet?  I'm just about to start assembling my first wing panel (the port upper) - honest!  I've registered it under the LMA >20kg scheme just in case it gets a bit lardy if I go for TripeCam.    We'll have to compare notes sometime.    We'll be able to put up a flight with Captain Beaky's :af

Bu**er and Bu""er

just had phone call from the spinners man, the material ordered for the 1/3 scale cowls, hasn,t been delivered, i can get it delivered seperately but will have to pay for a van to deliver 10 pieces of alloy, this will cost as much as the material, so i have asked they be put on the next truck which is not till later this week (fri) and as i go away for a week on friday there will be a slight delay :o but i assured the man there was no problem as i dont mind saving money hope this is ok folks

ok folks

i have found supplier of 3mm left hand solder on clevis extenders and chrome plated brass turn buckles, for a pair of turnbuckles ie two barrels two right two left thread ends £3, you can cut the barrel in half and make clevises out if them, ie one on each end of a wire to give proper adjusting, any interest ineed to order hundred or so to make postage worth while.

:banghead: since leaving the sheet metal work game I have lost all facility of doing such things, simple job with the right swaging wheels, takes about 3 mins  :banghead:

Grooves maybe in different positions depending on what aeroplane it's attached to?  I've got a feeling the cowl depth (chord?) is smaller on the Tripe than the Pup $%& I will have to check.

May be worth visiting a few sheet metal work firms to see if they have the correct size swaging wheels, if not it would be a simple enough job to make a pair up to fit their machine be it a hand crank or motorised one.

FANFARE             DA  DA DA DA    DA!!    DAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!

they are here, i have just spent the day in deepest cannock, watching magic happen, i have 9 cowls here, (well  10 but on is a bit short unless youwant an exact scale length on for a triplane or poss a camel as its only 5 inches deep, slight oops on the cutting of the blank so had it spun up anyway, you never know and it was for the scrap bin otherwise), but as i say there are 9 here so if you wanted one, pm ot post and i,ll sort out what you want, got to get em gone i,m skint :'( the pattern is good for some more so if there are more out there wanting please contact me.

next on the agenda      Albert ross spinners,  pattern being done(any dia for the 1/3 size folks appreciated) will order some material soon if anyone interested,

you like??????   oh yes and they are nice and rigid at 1.2 mm thick,,  with some serious mods to the pattern i could get some made in steel 1mm or .7 mm thick good idea or no)   end of year for that.

I will check the length I need for the Tripe and get back to you.    I'm thinking plain cowl + wire groove for me please and I will cut the holes out myself when I've worked out exactly where they go.
