i dumb thumbed the sdx today
i knocked the hold switch by accident whilst inverted
damage = flybar, blades and one rod end
all the shafts are undamaged

it was a shame as it was flying very well

I had planned going flying today, but not feeling so well, coupled to being in not the greatest of moods put paid to that idea. Figured it would be best to leave it alone, as if i stuffed one into the ground, my mood wouldnt improve. All sorted out now and all helis still in one piece :af

Sorry to hear about your mishap though :-\

I was 65 miles from my Helis today, and will be tomorrow.........  :-X

Well, not ALL...............I did fly the Mini Twister Sport here, and about to again once dinner has settled............good little tool for only £43!

Still looking for a decent SDX.    Last time a Sceadu of mine "fell over" after lifting off (don't know why) I thought that the main shaft was OK....it spun true before dismantling. It wasn't true once I'd replaced the head on it..............  ;)

Managed to get out on Christmas Eve.

Took two 50's. (and some planes)

The Hyper 50 one flew one tank right through perfectly, then after a chat and a warm on a restart I saw the "charged that morning" battery was dropping into the red......OK grounded then, pending new one.   I'm slowly replacing the "AA" with "C" sized packs now but this one had a nearly new "AA" sized pack.  It's sitting on the charger as I write. Wasn't that cold so doubt it was that.

So, flew the other one, Redline 53 equipped, and after a min or so of silky smooth flight suddenly got a very erratic tail response..............which got worse as I tried to recover it to ground.........got it down undamaged and walked over to find the gyro head (601) dangling down the side of the frame. The pad had split right through, sheared clean. I'd tested that in the workshop before going to the field, too, it's part of my standard pre-flight routine.

Hey Ho, that's Helis!!   :''

I did something similar several months ago.  This was on my old Sceadu and the gyro platform (with gyro still attached) came adrift and the gyro was left dangling - as in your case.  Certainly made for some "interesting" tail responses!  :o

The odd thing was that the 4 self-tappers that hold the platform in place were still in their correct positions in the frame sides.  I could only deduce that several weeks earlier when I'd had the heli partially disassembled I'd put the gyro platform back slightly misaligned and the self-tappers had appeared to screw in correctly but had actually missed all four holes.  :-\  It was then just a question of time before it came apart!

Remember, up is up, and down is down.  Except when inverted - when down is up, and up can be very expensive

i had the sdx50 out xmas eve and it flew fantastic
but bad light stopped play

and i was spared the very good xmas telly this year  :nananana: as the strong wind we had friday took the aerial down
the winds also broke an oak branch up the road which fetched the power lines down and snapped the top off one of the poles
the guy's from eon had the pole replaced and al the cables back up by 12.30 friday night without turning the power off  :af

Went to Thurnham slope soaring LOOKING for wind this morning, wasn't very good so didn't  stay long!

Have fitted a 3700mAh  "C" size cells, THAT's not going to sag on voltage, and the gyro's now held on with four six inch nails   :nananana:

My club is non-IC only on BH's and anyway tomorrow the Gun Club have their Christmas shoot, then rest of week I'm on other things so helis will have to wait unless I cart all the stuff with me in case................

Happy New Year All............

I got out with the two repaired Helis....................and the Hyper powered one decided to short the remote glow plug lead on the second start.
By the time I had realised it wasn't going to be firing up it had melted both the remote and the glow starter................  >:(

Went back to the other one, and it started to rain..................................  :banghead:

So, have been building the 450 sized Sikorsky Dragonfly today. Have got the three section body located OK, but the front and rear sections of the main body are jointed too far back and too unsupportable close to the servo links to form a battery access join, so that join will have to be permanent, and a new hatch opened up in the glasshouse nose.

Oddly, it balances out well with no added weight at all!

Hi Chris,

Happy Flying............It's a Bank Hol and my club cannot fly I.C. on a BH, so if I go it'll be the 500's so I'll be misaligned, too.

I'll probably just plug away on the Dragonfly though...................

Well for me just a couple of flights with the only problem being cold rather than dumb thumbs but good to blow the cobwebs out  as its been a while since I have flown rotary rather than gixed wing .

I'm the other way round at the moment.  Apart from flying other people's models a couple of times, and a trip to the slope a few weeks back,  it's been ages since I flew a f/wing model.  It's not even as if I haven't taken a f/wing model with me on the last 3 trips to the field - mechanical "gremlins" kept it on the ground each time though. ::)

yes i've been plank flying after not touching one for a few years
great fun until the engine mount broke off after getting airbourne on take off on its 10th flight of the day and on the bumpy landing i didn't even break the prop  $%&
i didn't like the mount when i was fitting it a few weeks ago but it was the one from the kit and i didn't have a spare to replace it with, its time to go shopping  :ev

I've flown my Extra a few times since my earlier post - but not as frequently as the Sceadu. Up at the strip at the moment waiting to see if anybody else is going to be daft enough to turn up. It's a bit chilly though - and that's inside the car!

I flew the Sceadu both days last weekend,  and on several other days during January too.   :af

I have to admit though that last weekend the flights were short - my fingers were getting numb before the tank was even half-empty!

Mcpx flight duration is perfect for this weather :af

Got 6 batteries charged and i am off to play. Dont think i can get out the drive for the snow, so between flying i might carry on swopping models over from my 9c to my 8fg.Only had it a year and still havent used it...... $%&
