also the same for the cotswold tracerc20, dowel and one bolt, wasnt your shark the same too barrie

No it was not the same! that is one of many reasons why the guys flying those planes turned into bit part players. The Tempest/Shark had a low mounted wing which by 1985 we were holding on with 3 4BA cap head screws, the under cowl then locked onto the cap heads.

This arrangement kept the wing and fuz very tight together, Simon M with the last few Sharks that he built had gone down the one piece construction route.

I could devise a system on an E2K where you would get the battery in and out quicker with a one piece model than two piece, just some little hatch on the bottom of the fuz.

Regards

Baz

 ;D

it was tried barrie, spent 3 months on that side trying different iedias, (still havent given up though) i used a respectable size hole as big as i dared without compromising the strengh and rididity, but it was found to be too awkward getting the battery in and out as you needed extra room to manouver the battery around

The first model I did was a one peice. Access to the gubbings was easy with the hatch and meant I could get to the tank from underneath with out taking the wings off. It was a heap of a design and my old man told me it was peeing him off transporting it :af

I have seen many wings dissappear with the 2 bolt sytem. The problem with it is an imperfection on the wing seat will allow the wing to move on the fuse putting load on the plastic bolt head. The only reason we still use one front bolt on the vlad is they just aint quick enought to warrant it ;D

As barrie describes. Soggy models asorb energy from any motor. The stiffer the airframe the more the motor will unwind and transfer power to the prop. I'm at a bit of a loss at the moment as my E2k has a bolt on wing and I was going to use a hatch. My concern is lack of fuselage strength so it may well be wings off to change batteries.

Can I throw my Penny's worth in?

Tape, all F5D models have taped wings and any one that has seen one will know they go through a lot of G.

F3J and F3B models also use tape which came out of Germany in the early 90's or at least that's when l first saw it use with a competition model. It has the benefit of holding the wing tight and if you hit a tip on landing and shears easily to prevent damage.

Its no good for those slow old nasty Noisy, greasy, smelly things Barry plays with (no not Paul the models) but for us clean gentlemen pylon racers it works well.

I started f5d of with an american cyclone which had a tab and  bolt wing fix, conventional method, but  my first meet with the other f5d guys i couldnt work out why the they all had rolls of sellotape, and was in dismay when mark used sellotape to fix the wing on  ???
very dubious about it when i got my first nemesis, but it turned out a fantastic method and as rob said on a wing over landing the wing parted clean with no damage, couldnt find a way to incorperate it on an e2k machine  $%&

Problem with a 2.25" sq fuse is that you'll use a roll of tape everytime you put the wing on lol
