Actually it's for your chin!

As it happens, the new Zim OD has been experiencing some trouble today. We have an issue with the elevator linkage - it's extremely tight down the back there, and it's proving rather tricky to get it working right!

Here's a pic of the airframe with the tail section complete...

Is the complexity of the build worth it for that slim back end and anhedral tail? Put it this way - unless it knocks 10 seconds off my personal best - unlikely!!  :D

Those wings look strangely familiar  :co  :''

I remember anhedral tails being quite the thing for pattern planes around the early '80s - in fact my old mate Denny Brown designed a 25 size mini pattern ship with one which was excellent. Think I had a piped 46fsr in mine so it went ok (leccy didnt work in those days ::))

Interestingly from a pylon point of view the real thing i remember about Denny's design was the knife edge perfomance - no idea why but you could just tip it on its side and it would just carry on - no rudder input required  :o. Not saying it was anything to do with the tail but if it was thats a bit of a bonus for pylon flying (i think  :embarassed:)

That is a bit of a savage anhedral but maybe the way forward  :af

you dont know if you dont try  ;)  :af

Lol at the Gollocks remark Nick! As for the anhedral - well tbh it was a bit of a case of thinking hmm a little more, nope just a bit more, not quite enough, that's it, glue, fack! too much! The main thing I'm worried about is having the tail knock off on landing. Anyway, although the build has been a lot of fun and definitely lots of learning for me (cheers for the help and pointers, Ad  :af) I don't think the next one will be quite as extreme in several ways!

I didn't put it in for k/e performance Nick, but as for your remark re the pattern ship - if you had a piped 46 in ANY 25 sized airframe, I think it would "carry on" pretty well in any attitude regardless of the tail  you're a talented man lol

just a thought on powered pitcheron machines , is it worth , if you do not have the use of a

working wind tunnel , to poking oneself  though the sun roof of someone Else's car whilst being

driven at possibly about the legal limit and doing a load test on the surfaces ??

I suggest this out of experience , I once had very large air brakes 6x3,  two off on the top of a

Wot 4  wing . In a dive these airbrakes over came the servos , full size 102s and opened, till

the speed decayed , an absolute sod to fly as they did not open evenly . In the end I had to put a boundary layer "cheeta " to kill the lift on them .

could the forced load on a pitcheron be too much at 80 to90 plus for the servos employed ??

I think the load is OK Stig - the wing is pivoted at close to its MAC, the movement is minute and the servos are 4.5kg metal geared digis.

But we will see! Although I have to say, the more I think about it, the less I like the idea!

Nice concept Zimbo.

I notice in the video credits you say that the tricky parts of the build were done by Adam.

Can I take it by "tricky bits" you mean anything that involves the cutting, shaping, sanding and glueing of wood, and its subsequent alignment and final assembly?

 ??? ??? ???

Had a lot of help from Ad in figuring out a few bits on it, Pete, but I did most of the bashing/ glueing etc myself!

Dunc - what time on Sunday? No fkin idea - it's Mother's Day - I'm being pretty presumptuous in assuming I'll get out anyway! If you're thinking morning, you're probably thinking of the wrong guy anyway.
