Should they be here or in Photo section   $%&

Anyway

After spending most of the morning sat and sleeping with zero visibility, not sure if that was due to fog or Pete's tabs, it kicked off with two great passes from 41sqn Tonka, followed then by a steady trickle throughout the afternoon, plus another Tonka, think after my 18 month drought i've become Tonka magnet, was hoping for a T2 so what a splendid surprise to get two passes from one in primer.

Great company as always good to see the Dutch boys (about 20 on their annual trip for a week on the hills) injoying themselves, sadly would appear their was possible fatal following a car crash just below the layby resulting in the road being closed all day.

Decided also that will give Cad West a break now for quite a while as i've flogged it to death this year and after the Eagle shots, untill next winter their going to be hard to beat.

looks like lots of extra bits hanging off that fresh hawk, or is it just the angle?

I know you believe you understand what you think i said, but i am not sure you realise that what you think you heard is not what i meant.

Some of these photos are so close up I can't help but think you had to duck to keep from being hit! Good show!

That was a perfect flight unless you count the take off and landing and everything in between.

Loz, just had a closer look at your shots...300mm F2.8, is that the sigma? I've got that lens on my wish list ;D its superb, far better than my 100-400 F5.6L.

The Tornado...whaooooo hhooo...thats ace.

The Hawk in 'green' I love it!

Amazing pics, do jets not use rudder when they're rolled 90 degrees, ie knife edge style?  What stops them falling out of the sky?

Or were they rolling and you got them at 90 degrees?

The hawk is (I think) one of the new Hawk AJTs. I would guess it was on production testing out of Warton, because I believe the RAF aren't flying their AJTs yet, and they never fly them in primer (we do because it's easier to clean up the primer and then apply the required livery than it is to patch-up the paintwork on a fully painted aeroplane).

The Tonk isn't in primer - it's in a typical european-theatre low-conspicuity grey. Tonks use the same colour primer as that on the Hawk. The only ones that are different are the carbon bits of Harrier IIs (GR5/7/9 and T10/12), which have an almost Lincoln-green primer (that looks "metalic") because MacDuck (now Boeing) use that as the standard finish. If you see a Harrier II in primer it looks like a 1970s Arfa Daly special, with bits in different colours!

The aeroplane isn't flying knife-edge - it's turning and pulling something over 3G. No side-slip, so no rudder needed.

For the price i think it a fantastic lens, the pictures say it all, compared to half the price of a Nikon or Cannon prime you  can't go wrong, if i had to be critical i just wish it had VR on it for lower  shutter speeds, just got to improve my panning thats all

Hmmmm, now, one is a prime lens opening to 2.8, the other a tele zoom to 5.6... I'll leave someone else to explain why one might be 'better' than the other... :''

'Thingy' is an accepted all encompassing discriptive noun when all other avenues of accuracy have been explored and drawn a blank...  :ev

When I was in the RAF -the accepted term for something one didn't know the actual word for was 'ickydoobry'. It was used by a South African tech we had at Marham back in the late 60s, and seemed to stick. Everywhere I went after that I heard various versions,  doobries, even doohickies as used by a lot of US personnel.
Anyway back to Lozza pics......... brilliant as always . I'm totally jealous of them

Happy Landings
