Topic: Yt Bearcat with Zenoah 38

Would like to get in touch with Richard Scarbrough with regards to the Bearcat/ Zenoah38
some questions....any mods reqd?, which exh is fitted?, weight of model and any advice on this set up!

He's in France this weekend... There were a few mads he made to the Firewall which are detailed in the Bearcat build thread...just to strengthen it up.

I'm after a 38 to put in mine but can't fine one anywhere... everywhere has sold out... Non at Weston or Wings & Wheels last week.

No mods required to the exhaust thats why he wen for the 38 as the exhaust was behind the engine so fits in well and as far as the weight...non extra required as far as I can remember as the Z38 is the right weight.

Ask Richard though he is Pylon on here.

Does anyone know which RTs were used, it has been suggested the Centuary ones are a bit stronger etc...any ideas.
Trying to get as much info first!! must start and finish the Stuka first!! and a Fw190!! -friends!! then its two Bearcats!!

I will let Richard tell you about the retracts... The new YT ones are different from the old ones I have them installed in mine and they look ok and operate well too with the retrictors in place.

Hi David,
Back from France where I flew the Bearcat and Tigercat. I would recommend the Zenoah 38 most strongly as I feel it is an ideal powerplant which also provides the ballast upfront required to gain the correct CG. I also used the std exhaust which comes with the 38 and just added 2 x 8mm downpipes to exit the cowl.I use a Menz 19x10 propellor. I have at present the blue YT retracts fitted, but will be upgrading to the latest air up, air down versions. Contact YT for details.

Today I flew my Bearcat at the Kings Lynn Scale day which was very good. However, I have lost my Bearcat, it went into failsafe during a low right hand circuit, the engine went to idle, the rest of the controls being in hold mode. Due to the steep angle of bank the wing tip hit the ground resulting in a cartwheel It is a complete write off   I am gutted.

I hope my 38 is okay. The only good news was it did not have far to fall trouble is those 38 cranks are known to be weak so fingers

its not so much the crank, as the mag wheel,   if that catches first, it bends the crank, and neither are salvagable,    fingers crossed mate    want another bearcat sorting??

Me....... :cigarsmoking:........brought it second hand...from a chap who had built it and put a petrol engine in it...so the cowl has been cut to suit a 20-30 size petrol engine...no servos.....all hinged and flying surfaces glued......yt oleos and Al's hobbies retract units...power something....i've matted down as it was gloss when i got it....that's about it...PM richard if you are interested...it's atking up space in my model loft in the workshop...so it's not going anywhere..

I hope its okay Alan, last time when my DV11 went on fly around! it cost me £140.00 from Glens for a new crank and mag
When I can be bothered I will have a look, its slung in a heap in the garage at the minute!

If you don't go with another one and you have no use for the Exhaust on your 38 let me know mate... but would be good to get them both in the air sometime so go in that Garage and pick through the bits...

Anyone got a Trumpet?... Says in the instructions of my 38 that performance improves using a trumpet.... Does this mean I have to get a brass band when the Bearcat flies?   

HAs anyone got one that fits a 38 or do I not need one?
