awsome day,    met loads of forumites--unlike weston,    good mix of flying,   few gaps,  Vulcan was AWSOME,   nice formation from airliners through the ages,   dawn patrol did well in the wind    couldnt open the show though, SO WE DID   kings cup team stepped up,     later DP did tapp proud, but one of the pups went in hard,    looked salvagable, but badly damaged,   jez mended worse with his though,     big all metal beaver, that sounded awsome, was an early casualty,   dont know what happened, but a wing was bent,        they where the only 2 casualties,   not bad at all really,  show as a nice, laid back day,  PLENTY pf trade, and some cracking grub joints--trying the lincoshire sausage factory tomorow

old warden sent up a trio of vintage planes,   bucker bestman, krick bent wing thingy, and the magister,  the latter proceeded to fly in formation with its half scale model version    looked superb,   all done with adequate separation,        no vulcan sunday,  but calmer weather,    wind forcast down the runway,  so everything should get off the floor,    the pilots did well today,  the wind away from the trade was high,   bearing in mind the expense invloved with the models, i take my hat off to them,         looking forward to sunday,  the atmospheres great,         come and say hello on the YT stand, and see what cash bargains we have on selected stock   some to big to transport, and will have to posted!!!

Sunday 2006 was great
Sunday 2007 was a washout but at least LMA didn't charge entry fee
Sunday 2008 - got charged an entrance fee but because of strong winds which were 90 degrees crosswind,  a large number of the planes had gone or weren't  flying

Sunday 2009.  - forecast is 14 degrees,  and showers.

I made it to Cosford last year as a 'Punter' and really enjoyed it. I hope every one has had a good time.

The weather wasnt great here in the North today, I went to spend some money at SWM late on Saturday and I was told the shop had been very busy - which was not expected as Cosford was on. Usually when a show is on it can be slightly slower in the shop than a usual Saturday.

Tommorow would have been my day of choice, but if I'm going anywhere its the Electric Fly in at Chester. Its such a shame it clashes with Cosford, but its local and Chris Martindale will be there flying his large WM Extra EP , which I have yet to see in  the flesh and Lindsay Todd might be there with his Melting and other models. I would like to see that too. So all the best for Cosford tommorow, pity I cant be there - the next major show I might make on my 'Tramper Mobility Scooter' will be Woodvale all being well.

I just logged on to see what Pics there were of Cosford, none? unusual....I expect I'm early!

Pretty darned good actually. Some very determined and professional dsplays. No-one semed unduly perturbed by the crosswind. I like Weston Park, but I'm afraid this year Cosford trounced it on content and just general slickness (it's a word ) with a full and largely uninterrupted flying programme. No real trade bargains as far as I saw, and definately fewer punters, but overall a proper job.

Well done the Cosford organisers.

well   we had lots of clearance bargains,   but, for some, not cheap enough,  how about us knocking 70quid off a 4mtre scale glider, only to be asked will you take less??   GRRRRR,   4mtr glider, for 139quid?  we also have other bargains,  just ask,  you never know!!   cash only these though    we have lots of new kits coming next week,  so older stock is going,    fancy a twin?  never been a better time to dig deep,  i had the new B25 out today,  what an awsome thing,  and for £350 too!!

Don't be offended Al, as I said none I saw, not that there were none. I have no doubt there were some I just didn't see them. Guess I'm not in the market for a 4m glider or B25 tis all.

Had a great time!

I was working on the pay-lanes for a couple of hours,  then happily watched the displays and browsed for bargains.  Met up with lots of old friends and caught up on goings-on.

High point had to be the Vulcan!  Left me all misty-eyed ......

I took the SO along with me and helped her to chose a nice aileron trainer for herself to learn on.  Got some gentle discounts, and came home contented.

The highlight for me as the announcement  "If anybody has any good Beaver video's to please take them to the LMA stand"!
 

At one point the guy with the VOX microphone was nestled in with the pilots of the Lancasters etc and EVERY swearword was broadcast to the paying public!

Sunday, I got a text from Chris Martindale - he was flying at Cosford yesterday with his WM large E.P Extra. The electric model with more power than a 60 cc Petrol Engine! He was going to fly at Chester today, but I think he's staying at Cosford. The weather here is aweful. Windy and raining! I'm not sure what Chester EFI will be like or even if I'm going to bother going at this point.

Or Cosford? The weather..Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

You can't blame me John - My priorities got changed by SWMBO and I spent the day in my garage painting skirting boards, watching the rain here too.

I've been trying to get my 80yr old father to Cosford for a while now but cold and wet isn't good for his health,  I need a year when the sun is shining.  Lets hope Sunday 2010 is a good one

   apparently there was a vulcan although so it seems a test bed with reheat fitted but i only found this out after about 30mins internet research. i must say i thought the Vulcan had reheat and i've seen it loads of times especially back in the 80's at west malling and biggin hill back then. so i suppose the commentary could be forgiven

Bargain, thats cheaper than any ornament doorstop I've seen.

 

Joking apart the 28 ran quite well when I tried one. I thought it was a good motor for the money ( around £28 at the time). Ripmax were selling them off cheap. £3.00 is just amazing.

I take it there was just the one? If there was a few 100 at £3.00 I'd have them

this is what i found although its on wikipedia

XA894 flew with five Olympus engines, the standard four plus an underbelly supersonic Olympus 320 fed from a bifurcated intake starting just aft of the wing leading edge and inboard of the main intakes, in a mock-up of the TSR2 installation. This aircraft was burned out on the ground on 3 December 1962.[13] Another five Olympus Vulcan was B.1 XA903. The test engine was a 35,080 lbf (156.0 kN) Olympus 593, the type used in the Concorde, mounted underbelly in a mockup of a single Concorde nacelle. The first flight was on 1 October 1966 and testing continued through to June 1971.[14]

In April 1973 XA903 flew with an underbelly Rolls-Royce RB.199 turbofan destined for the Panavia Tornado. It was mounted in what was essentially one side of a Tornado, including reheat and thrust reverser.[15]

apparently i think the olympus 302 had a "single ring reheat" maybe someone in the know might be able to shed more light.

 there was only one MDS  :( :(, and Alan who bought it, was in his prime a Rolls-Royce, well actually at Bristol Siddeley,  Olympus Developement engineer , so he knew abit about reheat  

and yes it was the 593 Concorde engine ,slung under the Vulcan  
Both engines could be seen in the museum , totally different beasts .

I worked on the " other supersonic  thing " that hung under the Vulcan , well its engines actually !

Nah. Colin Hammond has only done it recently since DB announced his partial retirement.
I flew at cosford since the mid 80's and DB was the man. Funny as hell and eminently professional. Not like that gibberish over the weekend. Well intended or not.

Factual inaccuracies, freudian slips, bad language and gibberish. If this is the showcase make a show of it. Not worth the few quid they saved IMO.

that would be all the years i've done Cosford as i've only ever known it to have Colin Hammond as a commentator. i do prefer colin but many prefer DB.
    incidentally i was pretty sure what they thought they had saved by doing their own commentary, they have lost in the professional approach the likes of colin and db bring to the table.

It was not the case that Colin was not available, he had a falling out with the LMA over them buggering about and not confirming what shows he was doing, so in the end he told them to poke it, and resigned from doing their shows, but he will be doing Hastings shows and fly-in's, and the Nats Showline.

Well you could put it like that Alan,    but as I understand it, he has resigned from doing anymore of their shows, and it was stated at one of the AGM's that they would never employ DB again, so where they go from here is anyone's guess,
