First ever trip and all i can say is WOW, already looking  forward to next year, struggled on the photo's sigma lens did'nt lke slow shutter speeds of 160', so used Nikon VR 70/300mm instead.

First up the airbourne shots

I didn't go this year, was not sure about the weather  :(  Looked ok though!

Good to see Pink Lady, commentator last year was talking about a lack of insurance, and that it would be the last year Pink Lady would be here.  Good to see he was wrong.  If I'd known about the FW190, I'd have been there like a shot.  Did it sound good?

Will certainly make one of the later duxford shows, nice pics!

Great pics as usual
Loved the Lufthansa Junkers
I had a flight in this aircraft from Manchester airport about fifteen years ago, lovely experience, like being inside a model airplane.
The fear only set in when I saw it flying around later and being rocked about by the gusty wind.

Gorgeous piccies lozza.

I went on Sunday, this was my 5th Flying Legends and although still very enjoyable and more than well worth it, I thought it was rather poor compared to all the ones I have been to before.  Not Duxford's fault, they can only work with whatever the private owners make available.  The flying was superb as always, what a spectacle, there remains no airshow like it in the UK.  But it felt low on numbers and types of aircraft this time.  Whenever I have been in the past (last time was 2 years ago) there has been a large number of US Navy WW2 planes e.g two or more Corsairs, plus Hellcat, Wildcat, Tigercat, Bearcat etc.  There wasn't a single USN WW2 plane this time!!  No Bearcat, boo hoo!  USAAC/USAF was also down on numbers, having no Thunderbolt, Aircobra, Lightning.  Have they  all been sold off back to America in the last 2 years?

I was delighted to see the FW-190 fly though it was a pity it didn't do a pure solo display so that its performance and engine sound could be appreciated without the distraction of all the other planes whizzing in opposite directions!.  The sound of its engine especially idling as it taxied past was incredible, and it's climb out immediately after take-off was stunning.

MPX, most of the types you mention are Fighter Collection aircraft who were grounded due to a paper problem - apparently (quote from This and that: Will The Fighter Collection fly?)

Quote
following an audit of of the Fighter Collection in October 2008 the CAA wasn't happy with both some modifications and the use of alternative parts and materials which, in the CAA's words, had not been properly validated. The CAA say they were also concerned by the lack of records detailing how some of the changes were accomplished.

They said that for safety reasons certain aircraft are grounded until such time as the organisation can show the CAA how the work was undertaken and have completed any remedial work required.

I used to have planes....

As always the best photos ever!

My dad ( Old Ribstock Webb) would love to see these and your other photos. Is it alright if I copy them and give him them on a DVD? as he doesnt do the computer thing. I think the Mustang ones are just the best photos - such strange shot in some ways, it makes me look twice and then again andf again. How close do they look!

The Spit....wow..

That would be lovely. He's a big full size fan and due to helping at the shop he hasnt made it to any displays for over 15 years. Now a days he still packs stuff at SWM, but spends the weekend recovering and doing essential home stuff. He's 80 this year. Not a lot of people know that!

I would never use your pics for anything without asking you. Its not a dodgy way of getting a CD of your pics I promise!  :af

Do you want me to send a disc to you and an SAE, if you PM me your address I can do.

Your a good chap, but I always said so!

Cheers

Come across this thread and found some great images here some from Flying Legend airshows.

Just want to say that I have started a Flickr group for Flying Legends Duxford images id anyone is interested. I am trying to put together a photographic record which may become a book at some stage and this group is organised so that those willing to show an initial interest can put their best images. Nothing will be used in published material without permission however so copyright is respected. If interested please do include your pics so that we can create a central database of images from the Flying Legends shows over the years. If you wish to contact me about this please do email me.
