I am considering a major purchase from Hobbyking in China, (because they are cheaper than anyone else, before you ask). Now i know we always run the risk of bringing down the wrath of the Cutomers & Exercisers on imports from abroad, but usually Taiwan, China, & Honk Kong etc, seem to able to avoid it. So has anyone on here had much experience of Hobby King, & customs, & vat etc, I hate paying the PO surcharge to pay my vat for me.
Any comments ? Except the comments that say i should be paying C&E charges & vat !
Cheers.
Ray.

I have a made a few modest purchases from Hobby King and no Customs, VAT or other charges were made.

Basic Research is what I do - when I don't know what I'm doing!.

My biggest order was about $300 including a 2m glider kit. When I ordered it the HobbyCity site came up and suggested decalring 30% so I did. I still didn't get charged anything and it was a big box with several betteries so fairly heavy  :af  This was the begining of the year.

I have never been charged for any of the smaller items I have ordered either  :af

best thing is to look at it as though you will pay VAT /customs
i have had to pay vat 2-3 times with orders from HK  but as the order was over £18 it was a 50/50 chance

Any spellng mistak is don with full intend to amuse the reder, so if you find one you can have it fo

Only thing I would say is certain items are actually cheaper from some UK suppliers. For example Spektrum RX's  :af

Thanks for the replies guys, I agree, some things may be cheaper, & i know i stand a 50/50 chance of getting hit, thats the chance i will have to take, but even with duty & vat, i think this still comes out on top;
HobbyKing Online R/C Hobby Store : DLE-111 111cc Gas Engine 11.2HP/7500RPM $519.99.
Cheers.

I have bought quite a few things from them. I always ask them to declare the full cost and I have never been asked to pay any tax on them. Only time I have been hit was on an order from Japan.

Thats easy, Just freeze it. The liquid thats left is pure alcohol.
You dont get much from a pint of beer though.

Dont know where I went wrong then >:(
Ordered two big Lipos from Hobby King and next thing I knew was a letter from the Royal Snail asking for the duty to be paid before they delivered them. Is it just pot luck or do some sorting offices turn a blind eye whilst some dont?

Just out of interest, I ordered a DL/D copy from SV group in China, paid for the engine, got stung for vat and import duties etc etc etc. As it was direct from a company I got no warranty either........9 months on I need a new carb as I have only just started using the motor and the carbs a duffer........ now, with the cost of everything added together it would have only cost me another £50 to buy the equivalent from Als Hobbys and got a warranty with it. Take into account the £60 its costing for the new carb and I am now out of pocket :banghead:

I dont think I will be buying from goods the same way again.
