Stu, if you can produce 30lbs of thrust with the MRset up then achieving an AUW of some 55lbs + with the wing area you have then there is no problem. Agreed vertical flight is out of the question but there again it isnt a fighter so that you dont need.Agreed the alternative power set up with the German reduction gear would be nice but if it doesnt fit then it doesnt fit and that is the end of it.30lbs thrust is a lot of thrust, quite enough to meet your needs. regards Ken

Thanks Ken.. Vertical, no don't need that, just enough power to lift the camera  :)

Can you confirm that it is a MR reduction drive you had it designed around?  :xx

That indeed was my cunning plan, I did the math on both the desighn and power spcification carefully and see no reason to alter my calculations now other than if it comes out above 60lbsAUW (and it wont) then you will need to think again on power, within the parametres I predict the 62 with MR gear is more than adequate remembering you have nigh on 60sq ft of wing area and its the wing wot takes the weight  :xx Ken

Thanks Ken, it's not as though it will battle much wind either.... that's an order i need to put into Mr Reeves then.. Now, next puzzle, how many spars!  ;D

Overall it is tempting to crack on with what we have...

Oh Sheepdip,Sheepdip, why oh why are you trying to re-invent the wheel,What you got there is basically an ARTF,Aweek or so dedicated graft and you could be flyin and takin piccies, pumpin out smoke, the lot......Well maybe a bit more than a week then, I suppose I must be a bit generous, lets say a fortnight to allow dope to dry. As for the number of spars well consider the % increase in AUW using all eight spars as against halving that nr and off setting that with huge increase in strength plus ease of interplane strut/bracingwire locating. As desighned Stu weight isnt an issue so I EXPECT IT ALL COMES DOWN TO YOU PAYS YER MUNNY AND YER MAKES YER CHOICE.     regards Ken

Stuey, I assume you have registered the LVG with the Over 20kg scheme??

The L.V.G.build has been quite an odyssey and has now come a full circle. The first shock for me was the discussion with Jim who has allready said that the long dormant project is allready now up and running. The first proposal is scrapping the upper front cowl and replacing it with an ABS moulding using the original cowl as a plug.Though registered as a 20kg plus A/C Jim reckons he can drag it below this majic figure and after talking long with him I tend to agree, especially as the weight as things stand isnt high.It is decided that we will stick with the sheeps original colour scheme therefor a call to Flightline Graphics will be made in the not too distant future and the plan is to have it in one piece by the Wigan Seminar early in the new year. This together with the Pfalz D.XII (which is proceeding nicely) are planned for the 2011 season, (that is provided I can con someone to fly them). So thats the situation, Jim says he will post piccies as and when. regards Ken

Not the LVG ones though .... I'm building a Seqouia Greenfinch and its all rather tiny and lovely and its got its upper wings now ........... but the zenoah 45 is a tight squeeze !!

Start the LVG next week, stripping off weight first, all the ply formers in the aft fuz are for the chop, the tail feathers will have a rebuild, the nose will be a light moulded jobbie (not literally)... Ken wants to stick with the Glen Torrance loz but its very heavy........  will keep you up to date with progress.......

No Sheepdip, its not silly at all. I can relate to that. On every A/C I can remember building there is my name and date of build  on a rib or former. Especially on a scale model there is a lot of you goes into it. One day if I ever build a WW.1 British A/C (something I have never done) there will be a genuine RFC cap badge I have had for years going in somewhere. Its not a thing I can easily explain, but I do know the more research that goes into a build there is an undefineable extra something added. As for time span of a build well you have all the rest of your life so there is no rush.Once the Phalz D.XII is finished I have the Albatros D.I then I will start on a project I have allways wanted to do, a 1/3rd scale A.E.G. G,IV. this is only a tiddler compared to Pats Gotha spanning a gnats knakker over 20ft. The L.V.G. will be started when you are good and ready and not before.Go get it good buddy. regards Ken

Hi Ken, just found the fabric panel, it's only small (12" square), from the LVG that's now in Cosford... It's yours if you want it.

PM me your address and i'll pop it in the post.
