So the Kornish Krew have their thread, as do the Bleedin' Suvernors (SE brigade)...So why don't us Northern types have our own?

By the way your 'Monarch Butterfly' Alula is still giving good service in the hands of about it's 4th owner !

Well that depends on the wind! I've flown at Seaton Sluice, Knots Flats on the North side of the Tyne, Titlington Pike, Coe Crag to name a few. Most of these was when I was working at Wallsend for Scientific Models, and one of the partners ( Martin Purvis ) was also a glider flyer, so we often used to have extended lunch breaks to go flying.

My inlaws have a static caravan near Ulswater, so I usually take a glider there when I go.

I didn't know she originated in the north.  Here she is lurking way down south on the Isle of Sheppey.  (A lot of people have admired the look of her, a lot of people have taken her for a spin ... anyway, enough about my girlfriend ...)

              I've sloped at all of these places and know Martin fairly well.
      When sloping our main interest is combat with a bit of PSS thrown in for good measure.If the winds not up to it me marra's and I can be found doing a bit of scale flying down at Blyth.

I've been told I'm too posh for the South East Flyers "club"  - can I join the North East?  (I was born in Leamington Spa! - I know it's the Midlands, but my Dad was born in Yorkshire)

I bet you have the best slopes too - although the commute may be a bit extreme!

Do they still fly at Stanhope ? It used to be a popular venue but I haven't been there for donkeys.

          Before you all head up to Stanhope,best make contact with a member of the Weardale gliding club,the slopes are not available all the time due to shooting ,wildlife breeding etc,no weekday flying at Stanhope crossroads and no flying on Saturdays during different types of the year,these guys work very hard to obtain the flying rights< i found out by hooking up with them a couple of months ago>,iam hoping to get flying tomorrow with them ,give me call if you want to come along,

I know that the Weardale soaring crew are very protective of their sites, i would have made contact with Tony Eden before i did any organising.
There's no guarantee that it would have been Weardale anyway, depends if anyone wants to come to a 'glide-in' and where they are located, best to make it central to everyone I suppose. i might be able to get out myself tomorrow with a bit of luck, bit it would be in the pm...maybe...

IMO a site that's not sensitive to electric power assist in the event of nil wind would be a good idea.

I've been past the Stanhope area a few times on weekdays but not flown there because no flyers have been around & I didn't want screw it up for anyone due to ignorance of local arrangements.
Is any flying allowed in that area on weekdays & is Tony a good contact re info for Stanhope ?

Best contact might be either Steve (secretary), email address on the BMFA club register page, or Brian (chairman). Tony's at his daughters in Australia for an extended holiday and could be out of contact. If you want email addresses or phone numbers send a pm.

To echo Euan's points as well as no weekday flying, there's no Saturday flying at either of the 'Stanhope' slopes during the grouse season as per conditions imposed by the landowner. This year Saturday flying is prohibited from 12th August until 10th December inclusive. See above re contacts.

                 Yeah,good to meet you as well  .
    You may not have been so keen for me to chuck your pride and joy into the wild blue yonder had you known that,up to that point,it was the largest glider I have ever launched,first launch was a bit ropey,second one was better.Still,the experience gained was usefull when it came to lobbing Chris's ill fated monster off  .

More photos of the great north east ,thanks Alan for the photos.For those more intrested in the models its a Hf Dg1000 around 4 mtrs all moulded with electric power <as iam a very poor glider guider> model flies great and has a huge speed range from sedate to fly it like you stole it??.

Hello,
          Due to the poor standard of the local launching talent???i had to come up with a cunning plan,here it is first buy and assemble a Fly FlY Salto after approx 20 mins trash it totally due to crappy cell in rx batt buy a high power edf unit approx 800 watts on 4s, use part of before mentioned crashed Salto fuss to make a nacelle,buy another Salto assemble it and mount the edf on top ,job done self launch ??A full size exists in the USA and looks the part.Actually its going to be a test before i mount my MW44 on top of a very nice Baudis 4mtr Salto,
