Is it still possible to buy the Highlight (or Betty) new, and if so, who sells them?

And the lift - mostly thermal was excellent on Saturday afternoon at Selsley. I flew my Highlight and electric Champion, though rarely used the motor in the 2-3 mph breeze.

A real gentle summers day flying - not had too many of those lately!

Do you think Selsley will have enough slope lift for a wing (X-It) tomorrow morning? XCWeather says 5mph North, but I haven't flown there before so I'm not sure how that translates...

Cheers

Absolutely no idea - but it must be worth a try!! Just got back from a jaunt onto the big smoke and am itching for some slope action! I'll be up there tomorrow (weather permitting).

I think I'll be heading that way for about 9:30-10 if it isn't raining. I'm halfway through building a Windrider Bee Evolution, not sure if it'll be ready to maiden tomorrow - if I can sort it tonight I will.

I'll probably also have two anklebiters in tow to go down and fetch it back for me anyway  ;)

5 mph North No No. Only good for thermal soarers. Go to Cam Long Down.

Is that where you're headed?

I think I may take a trip to Selsley on my way to Cam. If it's good enough at Selsley, i'll stay there. Flew my Wildthing in next to no wind last weekend and I believe a Beevolution is more aerodynamic.
I reckon most will meet at Selsley tomorrow morning. Whether they stay for long is another thing.

Thanks Marcellus and Eyeboy...

Now I'm torn.. maybe I'll go for that too, Selsley first then CLD if it looks like I'll get any flying done at all.  The Bee Evo is ready to go (I think) - only strengthening tape, not decorative though, except on the balsa fins. I can make it pretty another time. The CoG with no ballast is about an inch back from the instructions but I think that was true of the X-It (A.K.A the Bee Original) too, so it could work out OK.

Well, if anybody else is heading for Selsley for 9:30-10ish I'll see you there, otherwise I won't.  :xx

Thoroughly enjoyable days flying. Got the "Betty" up to a peck on a thermal and parped myself when I couldn't work out which way it was flying. Top stuff. Getting lift from a thermal is such a buzz.
Great to see the slope being flown pretty much all day. Just went up there for a walk and still more people flying. Looks like slope soaring in the South Cotswolds is alive and well.

I was pleasantly surprised how well my wings managed in the teeny tiny winds. Got to decide what to cover the BeeVo with now it's proved itself.

I'll have to limit how much I let Jacob fly - only four or five flights and he's looking better than me already...

I was tempted by the Ripmax 'Valero' that just finished with no bids on EBay - here . It's a 1.5m tail-only glider with balsa/film wings. Missing canopy and small crack in the moulded nose, but only £15.. hmm.

Tis only in Nailsea as well, if anybody wanted it.

And I still haven't been to CLD. Ah well.

It was very light at Selsley today, mostly thermal. Rest assured you Cornish exiles, the lift does boom with some more strength from NW-N.

That said, it was a perfect summer's day, blue skies and so on. No two days are ever the same and it will be back to wooly hats and gloves in no time.

You got to try it some time Patsy. Thermaling is awesome. Getting an elevator ride on a decent thermal and specing out is the dogs danglers (had one today)! You'd love it.

He was easily talked out of flying it last night at Selsley in NO lift!

Nice to see big arrows on XCWeather again..

Me and Glenn are off to Frocester after work tomorrow with a couple of wings (since that's all we have  :-\ ). Looks like WSW at 12mph or so, should be quite flyable...

No but there are some on the page I wrote when I owned it, I bought it off Nick and sold  it back to him after I bought the up rated version.

Just picked up two models tonight, both need a little bit of TLC but they look awesome. I've got a Handley Page Victor and a DeHavilland Comet Racer. Can't wait to to get them in the air!!!

So.. 18 months flying and *how many* models? That's got to be more than one a month...

Have you got a big spare room to keep them all in? Or do you need to pass on some of your less well used models? I'm sure I could fit a GWS Spitfire or a decent thermaller in here somewhere  ::)

Looks like today might be on the edge of Frocester capability. Would Haresfield be a better choice? The wind is meant to gain more west in it as the day progresses. Think i'll keep an eye on it and decide later.

Enthusiasm? He's one of the quieter ones...   :''

Anyway... XCWeather shows WSW all day now, which is a bit too far West for Haresfield I would have thought. Although Haresfield is only about 2 miles from where I am now, so I'd prefer it if it does turn out that way...

I'll pop back on before I leave work and see if there's a consensus.

Staveton is the arrow to follow for the Stroud slopes and it always seems to have more South in it than the general trend. It's presently showing SSW.

Eyeboy with his enthusiasm has given us 'Regional Gliding' which seems to be popular accross the UK and Eire. I met Eyeboy for the first time this weekend but have no idea who yoyo42 is yet!

I decided not long after registering that i didn't want to use yoyo42 anyway - but it doesn't look like you can change it.

So - we're off in a minute. But to Frocester or Haresfield?

If anybody else is on the way out to either of them *right now*, give me a call on 07595 821189.

Flew both Haresfield and Frocester. On balance, the lift at the Haresfield bowl was better and less variable.

I'd just like to point out this was 'hitting a stick with a plane', not just hitting a random stick for a bit...

Also, don't ask Andy (Eyeboy) to 'do a close pass for the camera' if you value your camera...
