I did look at those but I couldn't be doing with all the seats. Also my other half has a big family and I'd forever be being asked to be a taxi service...

So, now I've got the aircraft carrier all I need to do is pull my finger out and fix some planes...

Oh, hang on - it isn't 'fly it like you borrowed it, land it like you stole it', is it!
So that's where I've been going wrong...

Nice Pat Teakle there Timbo. Bet she'll fly like a goodun.

Good choice of cars Paul. My A6 is the best car i've ever owned - it's especially good as an aircraft carrier. I really wanted a Ford Galaxy - massive amount of room but Jodie said no way as we haven't got any kids!

Red plane. White plane. Green plane. Blue plane. Yellow plane. Orange plane. I have lots of planes. I know that means you you admire me as I have more planes of greater value than you! I'm great.

Something small and light for tomorrow at Leckhampton? Must get some practice at spot landings, and loops, and circles for the XC comp. :''

I like to fly with both feet on the ground.

Nice weather is often spoiled by the wind direction! NE and at least seven days of it!

I'll have to try Leckhampton some time.

What is the landing like at Leckhampton? The LZ looks flat and benign in the video clip from Phil's news letter. I've kept away as I thought it was a foamy only slope.

I haven't flown that part of Leckhampton before but can only assume that due to the plateau like shape of the LZ, turbulence would be a real issue hence it being a non-mouldie friendly slope. Fingers crossed someone will pipe up and say that it's ideal for mouldies . . .  :xx

I've flown a couple of places at Leckhampton. One was definitely foamies only, the other was sort of flat but was turbulent and had trees in close proximity.

I wouldn't fly any of my crunchies there, and if I had a mouldie I'd be reluctant.

Having said that, the flat bit that I know of didn't look as big as that back to the stone wall, so maybe there's another bit I haven't seen.

Phil, thanks for the vid. I think it answers lots of questions regarding Leckhampton.

It proves I will be a contender at the XC comp. That was a lot of country and I was a bit cross :banghead:

I like to fly with both feet on the ground.

Having declined invitations from Tiger and Phil-t-F to 'go flying' I finished my 'chores' and decided to try Lekhampton for the first time.

Tiger and Christine were there when I arrived plus a couple of 'locals' from the Cheltenham club.

The wind was between NNE and NE and grew in strength to about 20mph onto the same part of the slope shown in the video clip above. The lift was really great and silky smooth.

The big flat open area as shown on the video looked easy to land on. I wouldn't say there was a rotor or too much turbulence but there seemed to be strong lift making it difficult to land gently.

Tiger and I wandered up to the bowl at the end of the ridge, which appears to face East and looks awesome. Not much landing there at the top of the slope but there is a huge flat grazed field behind the slope, which looks great for landing. Perhaps a 'local' can advise if this is permitted?

I was all set to go flying after work today, until I heard about the ash cloud. No way I was risking my precious models in that!

Oh yes - great video too. What happened to the outtakes to finish it off?

Hope YouTube doesn't rip the music off it - I guess it's unusual enough that it should be safe.

We fought our way through the thick volcanic ash to fly at Rodborough; as forecast the wind swung to the east and gave some good lift.
Andy's NYX was very fast and retained energy well.
Photo is Andy flying Richard's new Weasel.
Tomorrow looks good I hope to do some thermalling on Minchinhampton :xx

There are always going to be some windless weekends. In frustration two years ago, I bought an electric thermal soarer. That made the wind blow hard for a year but today it was nice to float about at Minch, in a breeze only induced by passing thermals.

10+ of us there, doing electric, thermal and otherwise and one smelly, noisy one!

You're right he would have helped me out but even "helium wings" himself couldn't find any decent thermals, that added to the fact that nobody had a tow line or bungee meant that the albatross didn't get out of the boot - at least that meant I couldn't crash it :''  Better luck next time there's a breeze on Lesley I think :af

Hmm. Just wondering if, in these days of lightweight batteries and tiny but powerful motors if a 'glider' could be made that was neutrally buoyant - e.g. that used always-on fans embedded in the wings blowing downwards, to reduce the effective weight for ultra light wind days.

You'd still have to control it and use thermals, lift etc., it would just be like you really did have 'helium wings'.

Anybody seen it tried?

Can do, how about somewhere big like Monmouth or Abergavenny?
Dunno. I'm bringing children.  :embarassed:

That's a coincidence! I decided that if I ever get round to building a PSS model, it would be the F22 Raptor! Do we have any info on this particular model? I was thinking of buying one of the electric edf foam jobbies, from someone like Fly Fly, and converting it.

If it is Phil's, he's certainly done it with style.

Same way he does everything else, of course.

Timbo, could do with some advice from you regarding my Vulcan - where in the fuz are your elevon servos placed? The snakes enter the fuz at the nose end of the compartment but it leaves very little space for the two servos to operate without hitting each other. Any advice?
