Pffft, dont bundle me up with the northern lot, us southern guys are full of enthusiasm... we fly whenever wind permits (so thats most days :)) and if we're not flying we're building/creating something too fly!

Northern cars can only drive to staggy it would seem $%&

Thanks for the credits Phil. Tis a first! Great views over to the Severn.

I personally would have prefered a bit  more of a blow.....

OK South Cotswolds Soarers - you are going to have to dust off your floaters and head for Selsley over the next few days.

That said, the west bowl produces super lift in just light breezes, so the Cornish exiles gang can enjoy with their foam and eyeboy with his Highlight!!

Someone in Cornwall was a bit shocked about that purchase Andy  (P-Baby Cactus?) You'll have to explain to him what 'specked out' means....

See ya!

What about with 1mph of wind as is currently predicted for Saturday? Fingers crossed the wind speed may pick up a little. 5mph would be ok.

Thursday afternoon
A good  session at  Selsley, the lift was very strong lunchtime, I saw three paragliders get away. The slope and thermal lift faded mid afternoon leaving just enough to stay air born with weak thermals. Later slope lift started on the west facing slope with weak but smooth thermals.

Had an ok evening up there too. Very light lift in variable conditions.

Hoping to get out again tomorrow to make the most of the little wind that we're likely to get over the next few days.

Hi Andy, I was hoping to get out and see you all this weekend, but yet again the wind doesn't seem to be doing me any favours! >:( Sounds like you've been buying up every model on ebay! The highlight looks fantastic!  Maybe I'll drive home via selsley to take a look tommorow. :-\

Should be.

Yesterday the wind was shifting from W to NW every few minutes. In my completely un-technical opinion, I believe the lift doesn't develope so well with  a light breeze, unless it stays in one direction. There was also some thermal activity pulling it about and thermals bring sink as well as lift.

I wait to be shot down in flames!

Friday afternoon
Selsley was poor at 2.00PM, I flew there for about half an hour then went to frocester.
The wind was a little west but very smooth, ideal for my scale Pegase. Bill got his Highlight very high and I took my mini Ellipse into a cloud in one thermal.

Saturday 9.00AM
Just watched a hot air balloon take off from below selsley, it went west for while then south east quite quickly.
It looks a little stronger than the forecast, a shame as I was hoping to fly HLG.
If I load a scale, thermal and HLG I should be OK what ever happens

Which slope will you be heading to considering the variable winds? XC are currently showing 0mph whilst Tuffley have just shown a gust of 3mph (but a 10 min average of 0mph)!!

I'm desperate not to jinx things again, but XC looks slightly more interesting for tomorrow afternoon.

dont forget up your way XC might be peoples home stations located on the side of a house, useless.
unless your looking at local airfields take them with a pinch of salt.
the inland sites here are never right, was always seven stones lighthouse for accurate wind readings on the face

I know you believe you understand what you think i said, but i am not sure you realise that what you think you heard is not what i meant.

Too true matey. Thats why we use Staverton which is a local airfield just a few miles away. The Tuffley site would appear to be based out of someones backgarden but it's still a good aid when used in conjunction with looking out the window!

I will be. As the F1 is on I imagine the masses will get their early morning fix and be gone by noon. Thing is, that's when the wind is predicted to be at it's lightest. I'm more inclined to see whats happening and get up there when it looks doable.
But I will be there, weather permitting . . . .

The morning at Selsley
I look out the window and see which way the clouds are moving
Selsley was OK AM, reasonable thermal lift but a little turbulence spoiling it.
I picked up a large thermal about 12.30 but had to come down for lunch.
I may try again this afternoon with a heavier model, the little Viltis HLG is hard work unless it's calm

Looking very calm at the mo otherwise I would have been tempted too. Guess I'll hust have to leave it until tomorrow and hope there's a little breeze about.

Would this be able to fly today, do you reckon?

Andy G flew his Home brew thermal machine now fited with a Charisma fuz, went real well.
Ian flew his Micro Floh
I will add some photos when I have eaten

It should be Selsley 2 MPH, the sun has just broken through but may need a little time to produce some lift.
Peter and Bryan the early birds are there.
I will take a couple of light weights and the F3J for when the lift starts
have a look at Windfinder - Wind & weather forecast map British Isles (Great Britain, Ireland, United Kingdom)
