Good fun was had by all.. and it has to be better than tidying the house after the family descended yesterday!

This one was actually going round the silver birch 'pylon', not into it:

And this shows how close the racing was getting at times:

Also, I'm glad to say that I took that lost Zagi along that I found a few weeks ago at Frocester and it was instantly recognised as belonging to one of the other Pauls(?) and I've left it with Pete who's more likely to see him than I am.

Apparently it's been buried in the bracken/brambles there since summer and has defied several rescue missions.

Oh, hang on - it isn't 'fly it like you borrowed it, land it like you stole it', is it!
So that's where I've been going wrong...

14 racing and 6 or so watching was a very good turnout! Lovely morning and great lift. Shame about the LZ!

Well, Sunday p.m. turned out great, except whilst some were seen flying Selsley, Andy, Christine and I flew Frocester.

Tons of smooth lift - most to the RH side of that nasty dazzling sun.

Landing - wow - the lift was a bit stubborn!

Malvern is the place for an Easterly................as well you know  ;D.

I doubt, that we will be there though, but, stranger things have happened.

Enjoyed my flying at Frocester this afternoon, saw 'the Fridge' VW at Selsley on the way home. Hey Ho ! !

Had a really great afternoon at Selsley. Flew my slipstream and my battered stargazer. Same again tomorrow hopefully at Rodboro'
Must admit that they both flew better when Phil had a go.
Looks like a good week of practice coming up, if I can escape the shopping trips.

Interesting, one of those days when both Selsley and Frocester were working.

I was gagging to fly Selsley but Frocester was great and at it's very best and I thought Selsley had too much South in the wind when I arrived and checked the direction?

Norfolk, Tim? Not the best place for slope soaring. Have you got your priorities right?  ::)

Does this spurt of videos mean we're finally going to see the video where we were chasing Andy's hawk at Haresfield soon?

Have tried to make a vid out of what we shot, but most of the footage is of the Hawks tail and nothing else. I think we need to do a bit more filming and then we'll have enough for a decent movie - See you when we get back.  :af

Strange - it's almost like something must have given Andy's Hawk a clout and knocked the camera off line...

As for my Spit, haven't even started it. There's a surprising amount to do for an ARF model, probably 8-10 hours over a few sessions (with breaks to let the glue dry)!

I need to get my Vega fixed first anyway, so I can get some more aileron/elevator/rudder practice in with something tough before flying a delicate balsa/film crunchy.

It's mine Phil. The photo is of Selsley a few months back when we attempted to give the Spitfire a fly. Unfortunately the winds were marginal so the flight was very short lived.

I have just finished a Multiplex Fox, I haven't tried it on the slope yet as I had to glue the prop on, it will be flown indoors on Saturday at Bentham. As they are only £9 I will buy a second for the slope.

Who's hatz?

Glenn lost a BeeVo (Zagi-alike - same as mine) ages ago at Leckhampton. I think it was white with big blue dots on it  Could it be his?

Our Fox flew at Froster just before Chrimbo. To say it's twitchy is an understatement. Glenn seems to be the expert.

I can second that. His is very twitchy too when you turn the magic boxes off...

My unfinished Fox (I'm seeing a theme here  :-\ ) is also cheating - but in my case so I can get pitcherons and elevator from only two servos.

I started that Spitfire today. Looking good so far - a couple of minor bits missing from the kit (solder-on clevis adaptors), and a few design changes (two 3mm machine screws instead of one 5mm nylon bolt holding the wings on) - but I've got all the flappy bits glued on yet still mobile, and the tail is on and square.

:af Thanks for the pictures Phil, The wing is a Slipstream that I inexpertly covered in NS. I found that it flies better now though so am leaving it looking a bit of a mess.

Chilly though.. -2C - +1C? Brrrrr!

I've still got some to do to the Spit, although she's waggling under her own power now.

Just a few tricky bits left - how to attach the spinner without a motor shaft, cutting the canopy from the blank without shattering it, sorting the C of G, that sort of thing. It won't be ready for tomorrow though :-(

I had a pleasant couple of hours at Leckhampton today. The wind was directly onto the slope at 5-11mph producing a nice steady lift. It was only cold on the fingertips and the nose.
Flew my Slipstream a lot and tried my latest model. A homebrew Beetle 48", following the build advice from Stanley Chan.

It looks like Selsley for tommorrow so will try it again, maybe with more confidence.

I like to fly with both feet on the ground.

Had a good morning of flying with my Graphite and Easy Glider. However, it was spoilt slightly by the pratt who insisted on kite boarding back and forth in front of us.  >:(
Andy and I left at around 1.30pm when the lift died. However, Phil returned, and seemed to be flying ok, so the conditions had obviously improved by the time we got to the car park.

Phil, if you got any decent shots of me and Andy's planes, can you post them up please?

Oh yeah, forgot to mention that we had to scrape the ice from our wings at the end of the session!!

Kiteboarding on the front of the slope, that's unusual, perhaps he was a Paraglider?!

I'd like to see them try that at Frocester...

My Spit is finally ready to fly... so I'm waiting for a decent wind at Selsley myself. Looks like that won't be this weekend though.

Here's a couple of pictures of it:

And I had to add a ton of weight to the front to get the CoG right:

Yes that is a 2100mAh NiMH, 40g of wheel weights and an M10x50 bolt with a pile of nuts and washers! The thing was designed for a biggish motor and the flight battery is also supposed to be 2/3 in front of the CoG so there's a lot of missing weight to compensate for.

When I stuff it I might just make it into a comedy stubby spitfire so I can lose some of the noseweight... who knows  :D

12mph and Westerly tomorrow. Doesn't that mean that Selsley would work? Nice job with the Spitfire Paul!

Sunday is looking like it's got a bit more wind strength behind it at Rodborough. Never flown there before. What's the slope like in terms of lift and landing zones?

Well, they did all the work really... that ready-printed covering really speeds up the build and improves the finished effect.

I thought full Westerly was 'too West' for Selsley, even the small slope? I don't fancy Frocester for it, really.

I've never got round to Rodborough either. Somebody mentioned Malvern for Easterlies? North Hill should be really good for that, but it's a trek to the top - steeper than your description of CLD by some way.

Talking of Easterlies, I was chatting to some bloke on Selsley today who flies at Malvern a lot. He claims that the hill is bloody freezing at this time of year but normally is brill for PSS due to the massive landing area.
From my Paragliding trips, Malvern or Pandy are the two choices for East blows but both involve a up hill walk.

I used to live in Malvern so I'm used to the hills - and I can well imagine how cold it is up there.

From the Tank Quarry car park up to the top is quite a climb, especially carrying a plane or two!
