Those picture of Tinkers take me back. As I recall on Boxing day 1969 I was crouched behind the wall, clutching my Waltron 2+1 transmitter, flying my Veron Impala in the teeth of a blizzard. With me where Eric Humphery and Gordon Ellis but I don't remember exactly what they where flying that day. At a guess Eric would have flown his KK Elmira which seemed emnoumous at 10' span.  Gordon was probably flying a thing called a Yellow Peril, which was yellow and distinctly perilous. It seemed to need a new fuselage after every flight.
I recal that the wind was so strong that the Impala could only penetrate by loosing height. But it didn't matter. After 100 yards I couldn't see it anyway due to the snow. Releasing the elevator it hove back into view having also gained some height, only to be forced forward into the blizzrd once more.
Frostbite was never more fun...

John, do you by chance remember a fellow Impala flyer called Robin? had Sprengbrook gear and was in the Huddersfield club, used to fly with us at Callow quite often.
Cheers

Hi Phil,
Well I remember a couple of Robins around that time. What did he look like> Do you have a surname?
I still know a Robin Asqith who had an Impala back then (who didn't) and who I met again earlier this year on Baildon after 20 years.
regards,
John

Dont recall his surname, he'd be in his mid sixties now I'd guess. He flew mostly at Tinkers, the Sprengbrook gear would nail him as it was a rarity to see 'posh' gear back then. Once we turned up at Tinkers, it was blowing around 90mph with gusts well over the ton, somewhere there are photos of us leaning into it almost horizontally and launching ourselves off the top... anywho Robin loaded his Impala up with pounds & pounds of lead and actually flew it from the lower slope... crazy :D    I'm guessing around 1970 ish

Could be the same guy. One or two people did use Sprengbrook or Skyleader. Yes it could be. I do know a friend of his so I will ask if he used Sprengbrook. at that time.
Much later I used Sprengbrook myself, but it was actually made by Brand Elecktronic in Germany.
Regards,

John

Hi guys, just wondering if this thread is still alive, or moved elsewhere?

I've only been flying the slopes (mainly Hole of Horcum) for about 6months now, and I'm looking for other sites in and around Yorkshire to fly from, plus meet new people with the same interests. Being new I only have a Parkzone Radian and St Model Fox, which don't really count, and a SAS Wildthing which is a hoot  ;D and I'm getting an Apache plus maybe an M60. EPP slope racing sounds like it may be right up my street, and I was going to visit Tinkers on Saturday but I wasn't well.

Maybe you guys can share some links, info etc. so I can broaden my horizons in this excellent hobby/sport please. I'm already a member of NYMRSC, but I rarely see or know anyone from there.

Cheers  :)

You didn't miss out on Saturday. Tinkers was a wash out. If you fancy a trip over though feel free to get in touch and we'll try and arrange something.

Anyone going to Callow tomorrow (Tuesday)?
I'll be there (all being well) and I'm going to try to drag Shaun along too.
Forecast says 20mph westerly  :af
Cheers

Well I'm up there now and its raining pissistently and I'd guess the wind is more like 30 plus, our.lass thought the van was going over at one point!
Rain stopped for a few mins, dragged the phase 6 to the edge and could hardly keep hold of it, difficulty standind never mind launching. Had 10 mins of fun or so then rain stopped play again. Oh, and hail.  Painful!
Ah well. Kettle's whistling, so all is well with the world...

Ahhhh...I wish you'd asked Phil; I could have told you that the gust speed can be 10-15 more than shown on XC weather. It was very wild and wooly driving up to H/field today, so Callow would be as bad.

Rimmer: Step up to Red Alert!
Kryten: Sir, are you absolutely sure? It does mean changing the bulb.

Happened across this old pic of a Sheffield SSA meeting held at Tinkers, on the 22nd of Sept 1968.
I can spot a few familiar faces - anyone help with the rest?
Left to right, Ian "Min" Bradley, Phil Green (thats me age 13, "Pip" at the time), Bruce ?, Phil Scaife, Stan Groves, Paul Mcandlish & wife Hilda, Frank Thomas & wife, (someone on the back row?), someone in a tie, Terry Gregory in the hat, my dad "Adge" on his left shoulder, Terrys lad Andrew in the foreground, two more?, Graham Freestone, Pete "farty" Ibbotson, Chris Dumville, ?, ? (Pat Teakle?), someone looking down?, & Ken Binks with his Suzy-Q.

Cheers
Phil
