Good to hear you'll be "remaidening " the Wasabi. :af
Wind forecast is very light tomorrow, but getting better for some Bwlch action Friday and the w/end.

Been flying at Rhossili in the company of Doug from Guilford, who'se staying local for the week. Yesterday was stonkin' today a lot lighter, but both days no paragliders!! $%&

Hoping to get up the Bwlch on Sat/Sun (no comps on are there?). See youse all there!!

Had a good few hours at the Meio this pm. (Did go to Mickeys - hoping for similar lift/fun to Tues. - but on parking at the Ice cream lay-by the clag was in and walking to the west side in the mist/rain seemed daft - drove on down to meet mark further east). Light lift at the Meio - but air was the smoothest I have ever experienced there. Constant 10mph and virtually no gusting at all. Mark flew the Acacia II and me the Air One.  Mark reconfigured his radio to have the same settings as mine (crow on the left stick enabling the flap slider to be used for some camber and reflex).
All ballast was taken out of the Gliders and the light and very even lift gave us a chance to experiment with Camber and Reflex settings in order to see the marked difference with a mm or two up or down in such conditions.
A very good evening not to mention educational.

Enjoy your flying tomorrow Clayts.  :af

Also looking for some non-claggy Bwlch time on the weekend Rog (though the backwards walk over the road not so much ;)  )

Chris

I'm due to go on holiday on Sat, and I still haven't decided where we are going  :''. There seems to be a lot of northerly/easterly winds forecast for next week, are there any coastal sites, preferably near a beach, that fly N to E. Looked at Rhossili but I'm running out of time to research......

Cheers.

Ok, this isn't funny, who's moved my sense of humour?

The wind direction at the w/end would rule out Gower.

How about North Devon? Loads of coastal cliffs facing Northish- lots of camp sites and Devon cream teas! :D

Sorry I missed you today at the Wrecker Clayton - lovely smooth lift though from around 4:30 onwards, hope to catch up with you over the weekend.

Doug from Guildford who was on holiday arrived, turns out that he'd met Cliffhanger at Rhossili and thought it was a fantastic site, his visit to the Bwlch doesn't need any description of what he thought of the place, his Luna was absolutely blasting around and he is looking forward to another visit over the coming weekend!

Be good to catch up with everyone soon. :af

Hi guys. I'm new to this forum and new to sloping. Got a Flying Wings Hawk and Wildthing and looking to tag along with some people to learn the slopes and ropes. I'm from Newport btw. I'm looking to go flying on Saturday and thinking of Machen as its supposed to be NE. Any recommendations or comments appreciated.

travelling down to the Swansea area today (Ynystawe) Will probably manage to squeeze some gliders in - hoping to fly on Saturday sometime as I am travelling back up North on Sunday. Looks like a flock of North Easterlies - anybody going to be out playing on Saturday?

Hi Steve,

Machen is OK but can be somewhat hit and miss and a couple of us have experienced what seemed to be issues with mast at the top effecting our Tx/Rx's? $%&

If you can, for absolutely the very best site around, try a visit to the Bwlch above Treorchy, you will not regret it or forget it, it is the best site I can nominate for full on flying! :af

Thanks guys.

I took a trip up to The Bwlch a couple of weeks ago and met ChrisintheVale there, who was very friendly and helpful. Unfortunately that day I couldn't fly my Hawk as it was much too light a model, but now I'm equiped with a Wildthing as well.

So point taken about Machen, guess I'll take a drive up to The Bwlch tomorrow morning then.

Steve

Unfortunately I will not have enough time to make the trip over to the Bwlch as I only have a couple of hours, so it looks like I will have to make do with Mynydd y Gwair. We used to fly the Bwlch on a regular basis in the early 80's when I was in uni, hardly used to see anyone there - a bit different today! Its good to see that sloping has a good following down south.

But before the rain the lift was awesome and we had a good half doz planes up buzzing around in 25 - 30mph winds.  ;D

Jamie and I have just returned safely to the flat lands!
I just want to say a BIG " Thank You" to everyone we met. I was going to name you individually but I know that I will miss someone.
We were made to feel most welcome.
We have some awesome lift, and some awesome rotor!
We did miss out on having a fly at Rhossili so we will just have to come and visit you all again!!

Cheers chaps, off to unpack and dry out the tent!

Glad  to hear you had a good time- pity you didn't get to Rhossili. September is a good time to come, not yet cold, plenty of wind and the summer crowds have gone.

Doug from Guilford (are you there mate!) had a really good week, with a stonkin' day at Rhossili on Tuesday, a bit lighter on Wednesday, then three more days on the Wrecker with winds 20mph+!  :af

Nice to have met you all- see you again. Mind you if Wales gets independance, we'll be charging you by the hour for slope time  :D

Brilliant couple of days at the Bwlch this weekend!, Saturday supplied tremendous lift for a couple of hours, it rained for about an hour and a half, lift dropped away for a while but returned later in the afternoon.  To top it all, we were visited by new flyers with loads of models I have not seen before, excellent fun with half a dozen foamies blasting about. :af

Chris, the Strega looks gorgeous, can't wait to see the maiden of it - enjoy!

Being a newbie to the slope scene I'm still not sure about what slopes work in what wind directions. The weather man says 10mph SW for this evening so can anyone recommend a slope not a million miles from Newport?

Also, how do I embed a video onto a post on the video channel? I tried it last night from YouTube but all I got on the post was the text and not the video  :banghead:

Mynnydd Meio is good for SW - it overlooks Treforest on the one side and Abertridwr on the other

Less than that - you only need to put the ten digit code from after the equals sign in between the YouTube tags on the forum

Oh, hang on - it isn't 'fly it like you borrowed it, land it like you stole it', is it!
So that's where I've been going wrong...

Hope you managed to get some time in on the Meio,  $%& I had around two hours today and the lift was pretty good!

Not a bad little slope for a SW. :af

I do envy you being minutes away Mark  :P
- will try and get there Wed after work - I may have to leave my gear at the security gate house in work as the car was 25 degrees inside when I got in after work today - not going to leave my gliders in that during the day.

yup - the Meio likes Wildthings Chuck. first thing I ever took up there was a wildthing.

I suppose I am spoiled really by having the Meio so close to hand and working very early hours. :af

Look forward to seeing you if you make it on Wed Chris, maybe Steve can make it too, forecast is looking damn good so far. :)

Hi guys

I went up the Meio after work this evening, gave the Wildthing a chuck and it was ok, but the Hawk prefered the conditions better until about 8.30 when the sun was getting low and the lift began to die off. But by heck was it cold up there, and this is June?

Unfortunately I can't make Wednesday, but if you're going any other time, give me a shout. I will always join you if I can.

Thinking of heading to Rhossili on Thursday, anyone keen?

I am going to try the dunes at the base of Rhossili for some low-slope racing practice first thing and then head up the top after a little bit. Drop Mia off at Nursery and head straight there, should be there from about 8.30  ^-^

Looking forward to spending a day on the slopes instead of in front of the poota screen :co

Work commitments prevent me from getting there tomorrow but I'm free after 6 the rest of this week and of course the whole days of the weekend although the weather is looking pretty rubbish.
