Has a reserve of 485. So not that cheap anyway.

Also suspect is that the make of servos is non shown. May be cheap rubbish and need replacing.

Morning All.
Who has flown off Twmbarlwm, above Cwmbran?
I'm newish to sloping, present fleet is Zagi, W.T & a Weasel for the lighter winds(yet to maiden)
I'm looking for a slope to fly on a southerly wind that is closer to Cwmbran than Bwlch or Southern Down.
Any other recommendations will be greatly received.
            Thanks guys.

Rather you than me.  The nearest access I know of is via Cwmcarn Scenic Forest Drive.  You park-up near the western end then climb up - it's a man killer!

Cheers tekiM.
I've found access on the Risca side up Pontymason Lane and then onto Mountian Road I think its called.
Then about a 15min walk to the peak.
I went up there a couple of days back only to be greeted by low cloud, have you flown off there?

Nope. Had enough problems hauling myself up, let alone any gear!  I'll try the access from the other end some time, though, just to scope it out.  I'm in Cardiff so Meio and Southerndown are much more convenient for me...

That's the route I used  a couple of decades or so ago when I flew there regularly.  From memory, it works best S to SE.

I wish I'd been into sloping when I lived in Risca for a year or so... there were some good looking slopes up by the three aerials but I didn't know what to do with them then.

What a waste!

Oh, hang on - it isn't 'fly it like you borrowed it, land it like you stole it', is it!

I'm not sure if this is a diferent link to Rog's posted a while back (his was a cam from the paraglider club I think) - anyway - the NantyMoel weather station is very useful for those of us who frequent the Bwlch.

Marvellous isnt it - first real week off work since last Christmas and apart from 2 hours on Monday -  its easterlies, fog mist and rain all week :(. Fingers crossed for a better day Friday maybe.

You need to take the time off in
Summer, to avoid the mist and rain, but then you'd be avoiding pesky paras instead :)

Is that the one the SWSA calls Fochriw?
http://mikey.rchomepage.com/fochriw.htm

I havent tried that yet - but it would be a no go in this weather anyway. I may give it a try if the rain will hold off for a bit - looks like more heavy rain for most of tomorrow up that way and in SE wales. I wonder if those coves at oxwich that face east are any good or are they just sand dunes I wonder - may be tempted to at least try and get the west side of the rain band tomorrow after mid-day (clutching at straws a bit now).

That's the one.  I was going to refer to it as Fochriw, but the slope actually overlooks Pont and Abertysswg.  The slope opposite works quite well in  a NNW'er.

According to Dopey Derek, the better day is going to be Sat - cold, dry, SSW 10.

not sure if I like the idea of two forums, too much cutting and pasting ......... anyway.

Just gave myself a quick lunch break and sprinted (metaphorically) down to Southerndown for a quick blat with the Wasabi.

I learned 3 things in a very short space.

1. you dont need a fancy rig for a head-cam, strap-o-goggles with hand-held mirror for alignment works a treat (with Xacti lookalike)

2. Symmetrical sectioned aerobats arent awe-inspiring in 5 mph

3. Launching above mentioned aerobat off coastal cliff in 5 mph slightly crossed gets the ole pucker puckering.

More on my blog tonight, hopefully including video

Some of the guys who I fly with, don't look at the other sides.
Now there is at least me, you, yoyo (always chimes in eventually).
I found that even if I didn't get any replies, the people who wanted the info got it.

:embarassed:  I like to think it's only when I have something to add  :embarassed:

Anyway, I've flown briefly at the Bwlch (in the Cllag) and at Southerndown, and I lived in Risca for a year, so I'm sort of an honorary South Wales Sloper, aren't I?

I agree that a lot more poeple read these groups than post on them, it's the same in the Cotswolds regional group.

Hi Phil,
Mark (nucleardwarf), Chris (ChrisintheVale) and Clive (CliveHenryJones) quite often fly at the Meio and I'm sure a PM to  any of them will get a response and some extra company :af

Yup,

Myself and Mark will be at Meio tomorrow. Bwlch will be F3F'd comp'd out (or Blown out - if the winds do indeed go much past 50mph). Good time at Back of Wrecker today - Wind was ok - though lumpy and wild at times - and rotor slightly damaged a few of the practising F3F'ers expensive toys during landings.

Still havent thrown my big ones off at Southerndown yet Clayts - the F-Fish is as brave as I have gotten so far.

Weather looks OK tomorrow Phil - will try and make the most of it for a few hours as its a pretty tragic looking weather chart for the remainder of the week and start of weekend :(

(I always pop back here for a read - I dont mind a foot in each camp  :) )

Big Phil and I headed up the Meio this morning but the wind was westerly and off the face so we headed on a couple more miles to Eglwsilan Common. The wind was in excess of 20mph, smack on the face with great lift. We had a good few hours with only one slight rain shower.  :af

Looks like being the Ice Cream slope tomorrow, but with winds forecasted as up to 18mph on XC at St. Athen, it may be a little to windy to maiden my Speedo. May have to wait till Sunday.

I don't know how accurate this is, but this is right 'on target' for you:

http://www.windfinder.com/forecast/nantymoel

If you click on "Google map", it'll show you where this particular "weather station" is located - anyone know if its actually, physically there?  Bloody convenient if it is!
