If I'm feeling up to it I'll try and "maiden" the bowl shown in pic- looking south, with Cray reservoir bottom right.
Reckon it's gonna be at least a 1 hr hike each way from off the Swansea- Brecon road shown. Should be worth it!

Don't know if
this road would work, but if you can use it, it would cut off some walking time.

When are you planning on going? If i'm back from Cardiff, I'd be interested in tagging along.

Hi Clayt, just got back from your work place!
Temporary fix to my "problem" has left me a bit sore
So maybe not fit Sunday for the Cray bowl, but the one you show above the Llyn reservoir looks a lot less of a hike.
Google pic looking South East- possibly no chance of "walk of shame" retrieval.(~170metres from the lake to the top lip!!)

We check out of Cardiff by 11, so I would have thought I coud be there for 1 pm? How does that sound for you?

Tell me is that the ridge above Rhigos at the head of the neath valley - I used to be a member of the Gliding Club based there and the ridge looks awfully familiar. Spent many a happy time soaring it in a K13 - is the club still there?

Don't know if the glider club is still there but it is the ridge south of Rhigos.

Sunday 1pm. The Wrecker is occupied this weekend if anyone was planning on flying up there, so come and play Sunday arvo. The sun has disappeared from the forecast, but the wind still looks very good.

Cliffhanger tried to phone mountain wharehouse sat to check stock.....like speaking to the queen....but less sense from em. I am hoping to go to the Bwlch Sun so will pop past on the way just to check as got no sense from the girl on the phone...she said they might have 2 pairs!!

The Vale of Neath Gliding Club aka Clwb Gleidio Cwm Nedd or alternatively "The Vale of Death Gliding Club" continues to operate!

Thanks for flying with me today Roger. It was good to have a challenge in very light lift. I went home via the wrecker and had a fly after the last round of the comp. HEAPS of lift.
F3F in good lift is pretty impressive to watch for a short while.

Looks like a wnw (Is that the term) in Pembrokeshire tomorrow, I think we're gonna be looking for pastures new..  Anyone here from Pembs with suggestions ? preferably inland, but I'm open to suggestions.

There should be a fair bit of PSS there tomorrow and a maiden flight of Yoyo's new Spitfire and Eyeboy is always out with a lorry load of PSS.

Heading there for about 10 ish and then to the gliding club to warm up later.

If I had more stuff ready i'd have visited the legendary Crest with Tired Tim. As it is, we're heading to Rodborough. By all accounts it's a bit pants. Time will tell. I'm going to take some PSS stuff but i'm not very optimistic about flying them.
You're more than welcome to join us. Hopefully some day very soon we'll be able to fly the Bwlch so it'd be good to see a friendly face.

Blaenavon is just past Abergavenny off the Heads of the Valley Road. It's a nice long ridge facing NW. There's a bit of a walk up but top landing is massive.

I'm so up for flying the Bwlch. Keen on sorting my Victor out and giving it a madien there within the month.
 

Was on my way to Rodborough this morning and got a call from Zim and Will (Sorry for the no-show South Cotswold ) saying they were on the way to the crest so I chucked a 'u'ey at Newport and legged it back to the Bwlch. My car was telling me it was -2.5 deg and my fingers didn't disagree .
The lift was incredible, landing on the ice and snow wasn't too much of an issue for my foam, but proved to be a bit of a challenge for the Skorps of Will and Zim.
Andrzej came along in the afternoon for a bit and declined to fly due to the difficulties in landing without damage.
I am looking forward to getting some moulded planes up and running, the energy retention is incredible.
Anyway, got some exercise and had a fly in epic lift on the crest. A great day

Sounds like a good fun day. Just as well you didn't come to Rodborough - the lift was, at best, pants! I'm also pleased we didn't make the treck to the Crest. I'ev only got one pass at the moment from the good lady so I must choose my timings carefully. Would have been a real bad day if one of my PSS toys came back in bits.

Looking forwards to flying with you on the Bwlch soon.

I have a very liberal approach to what PSS is exactly. It's the same approach I have to "this is a non combat session" and "that was an OK landing"

Yes, fair enough in comps,just wondering about what i've got ready in the shed.Feel a bit like a kid in a sweet shop,what with the epp60 models from Ron looming enticingly on the horizon,the twister option, as well as a rippy spit and a windrider bd5j waiting to be defrosted in my workshop,which,to be honest is starting to look like a well stocked model/fishing/ski shop.Got to stop buying kits

BD5J would be 'interesting' on the slope. Rippy spit defo works as seen on the main forum.

aye the bd5 is eps not epp, so much caution and packing tape i think [kit looks quite flimsy]i'll try to keep it light.

How's the Cambrian Spit going? I'm doing the same as a result of Santa's visit. Any advice welcome

What servos are you going to use in your Spit?

Hi Tim,
The servos I will be using are the E-power 12gram digitals from Giant cod.
I will mount one for each aileron as I would like to have spoileron/flaperons.
I am hoping to glass the whole thing and will probably leave the wing permanently attached.
Because I fly on pretty big hills, I am aiming for a decent weight to get some decent speed and energy retention from it and I will be a little bit picky with the conditions (that is the plan anyway ).
Unfortunately, I don't have much advice as I am still learning myself.
Get a razor plane as it will save quite a bit of time as there is a 'bit' of sanding to shape.
My build is on hold at the moment as it slipped down the priority list. Nearly finished fixing up an F3F ship so will get stuck in to the spit again soon.

Well, we just got smashed with snow here yesterday. Access to slopes is a bit of an issue for the weekend. I heard Pembs and Blackwood got spanked aswell? How did it end up looking in Cardiff and Swansea? Swansea didn't seem too bad when I left work at 6pm yesterday.
Been waiting for a delivery of a schulze receiver since the 6th Jan. Access was getting better til today. oh well, keep waiting

Pembs did get it bad. Our normal sites are off limits even today.  Roads closed due to drifting snow.  I'm hoping the roads will be clear enough for a weekend bash

Was fantastic to finally get a fly in after being frozen out by the weather for a bit.
Bright, beautiful sunny morning. Gentle stroll up a big 'ill. Nice relaxed crowd of four pilots and 10 models.
Conditions weren't epic by any means, but were perfect for any type of flight especially maidens as landings were rotor free.
Mike ISoar had a striking quiver to be maidened consisting of Cyril, Strega and RaceM
PaulS maidened his Typhoon and flew his foamy (model?)
Cliffhanger Rog maidened his Segway, flew and broke his Swinger and ProdiJ.
I finally got my M60 flying prettymuch the way I want it too and flew the Lumberjack a little bit too.
Dunno if it's just mouldie envy, but the Typhoon and Mikes F3Ffers were awesome. Love the whislte.
I really enjoyed larking about with the M60 and was getting pretty comfortable (cocky) with it.
At one point, was flying back to the front from out the back and as I re-entered the front I was confronted with a Cesna with its prop not spinning heading straight at my M60!!! I wasn't expecting that . I don't think he was either as he had to turn his motor back on and claw his way out of the hill face and try again. It is a pretty cool thing to watch a fullsize cessna slope soaring.

Drove down the Gower to Rhossili, parked in the church carpark and walked straight up the side of the big hill on
Rhossili Bay.
You could also park in Llangennith and walk up the other end of the hill.
