Therein lies the problem with most of Scotland as far as our hobby goes,
Fantastic hills, no access.

unless you like yomping up mountains.

Sleep 'till you are hungry, eat 'till you are tired.

The dates for the scottish/Fife Soarer's F3F winter league are:

Nov 20
Dec 11
Jan 15 - 2011

And if you finish in the top 5 you get to go and race at the Slope Racer Champion of Champions 2011 which is a great race.

All with insurance welcome more info here Fife Soarers... BTW Ron doesn't wear those shorts in the winter

I had better check that....

My big scalie short kit arrived today, a slingsby petrel 4.95m from belairdigital.co.uk.

I don't think its going to go too well inverted... big camber and a root rib thats 82mm thick  ^-^

Hamburglar,  ;D If we get a full turnout of all the potential F3Fers we can manage at least 13 or 14. We just need to make sure they are encouraged to attend. The main thing to do to help qualify is not miss any races! The Sloperacer rules are a bit ambiguous about numbers of entries because they state 5 in the main body but they specifically say 3 from Scotland near the end and I suspect this is the correct number. I understand their fear of too many marauding Northerners!  :co

Pete, Hope you get your workshop in use before too much longer and you can get started on your scalie. A nice photo thread would be good!!  :''

We could do with getting a few big scalies out at the same time. Not flown the vega for a while and not seen a few big scale models in the air together for much longer. When you getting one george? :''

When you getting one george? :''

I have a Dremel fret saw and quite enjoy cutting out parts but I'm liking the short kit idea. Cutting out dozens of pairs of ribs does not appeal :-\

I have another exam in January so all my spare time (well, a lot of it) will be spent with my nose in my books  $%& Once that is over I may well clear the workbench although building a 5 metre span model in my shed could be a challenge. A four-piece wing would be ok but the fuselage looks pretty long  :-\ That 1/4 Slingsby Skylark 4 in the Belair range does look lovely.

The one area that does bother me about building a large scale glider is making the canopy but fortunately Traplet produce one for the 1/4 scale Skylark 4  :af

Having said that if you consider the cost of the short kit, the extra wood, plan, canopy, an acre of Solarartex and the servos that £400 1/3 scale Fox on EBay looks tempting!! :''

I posted, How about Cornalees Bridge Centre Nick?

If,,, my memory is correct there is not much room on the road below the Hill. Plus IF my memory is correct there is ample parking at the centre and the angling folk are friendly at a little cafe place. Have a look at Google maps, should show am I correct, or not. I do not know if anyone Slopes at Dunrod Hill though.

Hi,

Yes I know the site above Loch Thom.  You can park at the bridge centre and follow the path from the back of the car park.  I've only ever flown there in E-SE winds and it works pretty well.  From that direction there's truly spectacular rotor in the obvious landing zone just behind the edge, so it's best to walk 50-100m back to the larg flat area.

I gather there's a group of people fly there, but I've never met them.  Must be a couple of years since I was there last.

David

hey Nick
i dont know what the site is called in Nielston, all i know is that it overlooks a wee loch and its near a small substation.
dont fly anything fancy, got a 50" storm SL wing from flyingwings for the slope, and a few foamy parkflyers, spent all my money on a TX (Evo 9) so hoping to add to the hangar this year (vat increase not helping :uk:)

im well up for some slope combat, and maby some 60" pylon racing

The only 60" pylon racing I know of in Scotland is run by the SSA/Fife Soarers. No dates for 2011 yet.  :study: There weren't too many events run last year but maybe we will be luckier this year. Great fun when the weather complies  :af

If you want to go racing you need to head to fife to the lomond hills.
http://www.soaring-fife.co.uk/

But you can get a good bit of sport flying in the pentland hills at various sites. Im up there most sundays  :)

The hill/ridge runs North South, so a westerly it looks like.  I knew the area nearly sixty years ago. Look at it in Google Earth.
