Don't forget - every pilot needs a caller/helper too, otherwise I would have put my own name down to fly, but I'll be calling/helping Matt.
Most of the shows insist on this - no caller, no flying.

Hope there's room for 60 folks along the flightline then.  ;D ;D ;D

It does get busy, but just take a look at the funfighter slots - at Hop Farm, we had 16 planes flying together, and each pilot had a caller.   Only trouble with high numbers is I have to push Matt out to the front as he can't see past any of the others from his height (actually I struggle with that too  :'')

Good point daz , but you missed out that the caller/helper must also have a B cert ! And the reason for this is just in case the pilot gets in trouble ie gets a fly in their eye or something that incapacitates him the helper must be able to take over ! Mickey

Good point Mickey, is there help available from other teams?

There may be on the day and it's something you need to arrange yourself (so gets easier the more people you know there) but you can't rely on that, and if it's a team of 16, then it would be unreasonable to expect to borrow even half that in callers.   One problem is that those that may be able to pitch in and help could be in the next slot themselves too.

We should plan on each having a caller really.
I think you have to go to the event with a caller already lined up, and then rely on people

I appear to be in the same boat...  :''  Is there a "reserve list" for helpers?  ;)

There may be a mixture of those pilots that can launch their own, and those that need the launching done for them?

Will be useful to identify which pilots are which in the list.

Or is there a rule at Hop Farm guiding against self launching?  ::)

Thought so, sounds good to me.... the helper will need launching skills then.  :af :af

biggest thing to remember as a team is something the B can't test, your spacial awareness
even in our slots you'll see some of us nail the smaller gaps, manage to keep with the group, or rejoin it quickly if we go the wrong way, listening to the commands is also important.
some are better at it than others, and you'll always see those guys getting it right, the rest make up the numbers and fill the sky.

when trying out your pilots, get them up with 2-3 others and see how they do, if they struggle it's unlikely they'll be able to cope with team display flying.

looking forward to the 2010 team  :af

I know you believe you understand what you think i said, but i am not sure you realise that what you think you heard is not what i meant.

Ok folks.. been having a think.

A list of planes allowed in the mayhem i think is in order.i.e gremlins, roos and their dreivatives, delta type flyers. yessum?i.e wing types.

Also, we will all need to get together at some point a few months from now for a couple of days for practice, and also helpers to learn if they need to, how to launch our models.I for one need someone to launch mine as i cant launch it myself.
Also.. thinking out loud.. that might also be a good time for people to take their Bs if they havent done so beforehand??

these are just ideas floating around in my pounding head.

wotcha all think?

Good points Phil.

You have to remember though we have all done this quite alot before so people will realise when we go to fly-ins they can't do it. If in practices it is obvious people can't do it then I'm sure they will realise.

What we have to make sure is that we can all stick together, there is no point having 15 people flying and 8 out of these aren't in the formation. The formation part is where this team will work.

Also steve people must pull out if they aint up to it ! They must not fly just because they feel that they would be letting the team down ! In fact them pulling out if they feel that they are not up to it would be better for the team and safer for all than if they were to fly feeling like that ! Just a thought ! Mickey
