Looking for opinions as to the feasability of using a single lipo cell to run a rx and 1 5gm servo. This is to alter the rudder trim tab on a free flight Tomboy. Getting too old to run after them.

I disected an old kokam 3 cell 350Mah pack and connected 1 cell to a Corona 8ch DC rx, along with an old 5gm servo. It appeared to work, albeit the servo was slower than normal, but with enough power to move a rudder trim tab. Range appeared to be normal. The lipo showed 3.68Volts before connection, not having been charged for ages. Moving the servo drops the voltage to 3.5 Volts. Just put 30 Mahs in to it. This time the voltage hardly dropped when moving the servo. I suspect the a full charge will probably see the voltage a bit higher.

So. Am I being daft, or will it work? The worst case scenario is free flight, and me running!

Hobbycity do a range of gear designed for 1 cell use. Here is one of a few servos they do.

HobbyKing Online R/C Hobby Store : Single Cell 3.2g / .16kg / .10sec Digital Ultra-Micro Servo $7.95

There are esc with bec, motors and I think the small Spektrum RX works happily at this voltage

I think a number of people powered their rx + 2 servos with single lipos in the MPX Fox f/f to slope soarer conversions.  You could ask on the glider board or do a search for MPX Fox.

Thanks PatMac, that was the right direction. It seems that the Corona and Schulz rxs (both of which I have) are both tolerant of the low voltage, so its all systems go!
